The national tour of ‘Clue: A New Comedy’ remixes the classic murder mystery with farcical physical comedy and impassioned old-fashioned sensibilities.
“It’s all part of the game.”
There’s a strong relationship between mischievous murder mysteries and the horror genre. Murder mysteries inherently hinge upon death – it’s baked into the name – so it’s not surprising that horror has embraced this secretive subgenre and really emphasized the murder in murder mysteries. Murder mysteries have been popular in pop culture for nearly a century. However, there’s been a recent renaissance on this front with playful films like Knives Out, A Haunting in Venice, Bodies Bodies Bodies, the Scream franchise, and the prominence of the true-crime genre and armchair detectives. That being said, an underrated and evergreen source of murder mystery hijinks that’s entertained audiences for 75 years is Hasbro and Parker Brothers’ Clue.

Refresh for updates… Roseanne Barr’s noxious, racist tweet likening former Barack Obama aide Valerie Jarrett to a Planet of the Apes character has drawn quick condemnation from Hollywood, including from her ex-husband Tom Arnold, while former Fox News host Eric Bolling tweeted — then deleted — that the Roseanne star owed no apology.
Arnold, replying to a post by CNN’s Brian Stelter, called Barr’s tweets “dangerous” (see all tweets below), while MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough tweeted: “There is no apology she can make that justifies @ABC turning a blind eye to this bigotry by airing another second of her show. Even in the Age of Trump, there are red lines that can never be crossed. This is one.”
Tweeted Don Cheadle, “You can take @RoseanneOnABC out of racism, but you can’t take the racism out of @therealroseanne …”
“No apology necessary at all @therealroseanne. And please don’t leave.

Last night, ABC Family's "Bunheads" aired its "winter finale" -- the last episode in the show's current order of 18 episodes -- and without any official word from the network about the show's future, it may have also been the series finale. That would be a shame.
The dramedy from "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is a gem, but judging by the ratings it remains something of a well-kept secret. Prior to last night's episode, the show has been averaging 1.27 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo. Those are not embarrassing numbers by cable TV standards, but they're well under ABC Family's biggest hit, "Pretty Little Liars," and also a dropoff from "Bunheads" lead-in "Switched at Birth."
"Bunheads" fares better in the young female demos prized by the network, but judging strictly by overall viewership no one would be surprised if ABC Family threw in the towel.

Zap2it: How do you describe your "Bunheads" character, Michelle?
Sutton Foster: Michelle is a hot mess, but a lovable one. I think of her as a lone ranger and on her own. ... What she thought her career would be didn't pan out that way. She's holding on to her dreams to be a dancer, to be a performer. I really love her, and she is one of my most favorite characters I have ever played.
Zap2it: What's it like working with your brother (Hunter Foster, who played Michelle's brother, Scotty)?
Sutton Foster: It has been such a gift! As adults we each have such full lives away from each other. He has been out here in L.A. and staying with me at my house here. It's the first time we had lived together in 25 years. Wow! This is so weird, and to work together is easy.

Tonight's winter finale marks the end of ABC Family's current run of "Bunheads," though hopefully not the end of the show for good.
The most excellent dramedy from "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino stars Sutton Foster as Michelle, a washed-up Las Vegas showgirl finding a new lease on life in the small California town of Paradise. It's a strong contender for wittiest and most inventive show on TV, and although it's not a ratings powerhouse, the series really hit a creative stride in its first 18 episodes.
We talked to Foster about tonight's finale, Michelle's season-long arc of "taking responsibility and committing to this town" and what she'd like to see when (cross your fingers) "Bunheads" gets renewed for another season.
What should we expect from Michelle in the finale, are there any big changes on the horizon?
Sutton Foster: Michelle begins to look at [her friend] Talia's life with envy.

[Editor's Note: I keep forgetting to write about Bunheads so my friend Susan offered to step in. We both watch the show religiously so here's Susan with a take I mostly agree with -- if enough of you are watching we'll discuss again. I love the show.]
Sutton Foster in "Bunheads"
Up until this past summer, I had never watched a show on ABC Family. Not that I have anything against ABC . Or families. But thanks to Sutton Foster, I decided to give Bunheads a try. While the show’s rapid-fire, pop culture infused dialogue can sometimes be more exhausting than exhilarating; I’ve come to appreciate its rhythms and strongly beating heart. Those beats are familiar to fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino, who previously created the much-loved Gilmore Girls.
I come to Bunheads as a virtual Sherman-Palladino virgin, bringing my appreciation for Foster and not much else. In some ways, I think that’s a good thing. I don’t watch Bunheads through a “this is like Gilmore Girls, this is different; this is better, this is worse” prism. Foster’s character, former showgirl Michelle Simms, is not Lorelai Gilmore-light to me, even if she does share...

"9 to 5," the musical version of the 1980 hit movie comedy, received a generous stimulus package from the Drama Desk on Monday, netting a record 15 nominations from the organization of New York-based theater critics, reporters and editors for its annual awards.
Other top nominees included "Shrek the Musical" with 12, "Billy Elliot" with 10, "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" with six and the "Hair" revival with eight.
The previous record for the most noms was 14 shared by five shows -- "The Secret Garden" (1991), "Ragtime" (1998), "The Producers" (2001), "Hairspray" (2003) and "The Drowsy Chaperone" (2006).

Every time he does a play in New York, Hunter Foster has reservations about it. You just never know how it will be received, he says, pointing to the recent abrupt Broadway closing of American Buffalo despite its starry cast. And commercial plays Off-Broadway may be even more iffy, adds Richard Masur. They have neither the financial backing of a Broadway show nor the guaranteed run of a subscription-based nonprofit production. But that didn't stop the two actors from signing on for Dust, a new play by Billy Goda, now running commercially Off-Broadway. Masur, whose credits include some 50 films and recurring roles on such TV hits as Picket Fences, Rhoda, and One Day at a Time, plays Martin, a middle-aged control-freak executive. Foster, best known for his work on Broadway in Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Producers, plays Zeke, an ex-con, recovering drug addict, and custodian at the...

According to the New York Post, the two actors, who recreated their roles for the movie adaptation of the Mel Brooks comedy musical, are in negotiations for a swansong performance this summer. Producers have reportedly asked the pair to close the show's run in June 2007, when the production will make way for another Brooks classic, Young Frankestein. With Lane and Broderick as the leads, The Producers became the recipient of the most Tony Awards in New York theatre history. Tony Danza and Hunter Foster currently play the leads, Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, on Broadway. An abridged Las Vegas production of The Producers, starring David Hasselhoff, will begin next week.
