The NASCAR playoff field has officially been reduced to eight, as we bid adieu to Kevin Harvick, Michael McDowell, Joey Logano, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. — and it seems like it’s Kyle Larson’s prize to lose at this point. Still, top racers like William Byron, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, and fiery upstart Tyler Reddick are in the mix, so it’s anyone’s game. For the fourth season in a row, the Coke Zero Sugar 400 race at Daytona International Speedway will determine which 16 drivers will make the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, and NBC NASCAR commentator Steve Letarte couldn’t be happier. “Everyone who takes the green flag could win that race,” he says, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the high-banked oval. Some drivers who may still be on the bubble — Bubba Wallace, Michael McDowell, and Chase Elliott — are particularly skilled at Daytona, but “what has happened the last few years that people aren’t noticing is the depth of the field,” Letarte says. “That makes things very dangerous.” (Credit: Meg Oliphant/Getty Images) Beyond the bubble, Letarte is looking ahead to the slate of drivers who seem more poised to hoist the trophy in Phoenix on November 5. Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson, both of whom have playoff experience, will be threats; Kevin Harvick could...

Windy City traffic just got a whole lot worse. Chicago motorists might get thrown for a “Loop” when NASCAR runs the Xfinity Series The Loop 121 and the Cup Series races through a 12-turn, 2.2-mile course on downtown streets. It’s the first street contest in Cup Series history. “It has the opportunity to be one of the biggest events that NASCAR has had in a long, long time,” says NBC Sports NASCAR analyst and former driver Dale Jarrett. “The whole setting is just going to be spectacular, [and] I really believe that we’re going to see some good racing on top of everything else.” NASCAR Chicago Street Races on NBC Sports All times Eastern/Central Saturday, July...

Thirty-nine Nascar drivers and their crews pushed Bubba Wallace’s car to the front of Talladega Superspeedway’s field before a race today in a show of support for the circuit’s only black driver one day after a noose was discovered hanging in his garage stall.
In a video posted on Nascar’s YouTube page, a narrator calls racing “the great equalizer” and says, “No one is white, black, brown or yellow. They are all racers and they are all our heroes.”
According to ESPN, the show of solidarity just before a race came about after driver Jimmie Johnson said in an interview that he would stand with Wallace during the national anthem. Justin Bieber stopped by the Tonight Show Tuesday to deliver "Sorry," an apologetic track off his recently released new LP Purpose. The intimate performance starts off with Bieber, on a darkened stage, channeling his latest single accompanied only by piano. As the track progresses, the lights fade on and it's soon revealed that the Roots and a squad of dancers have joined the singer.
In addition to "Sorry," Bieber also took part in The Tonight Show's inaugural Nascar 500, which paired actual race car drivers and celebrities in a go-kart relay race through Rockefeller Plaza.

Jimmy Kimmel had the honor, once again, of revealing People's new Sexiest Man Alive. But first, Jimmy had the audience guess who it might be, hiding the man's face and disguising his voice. The audience first learned that he was taping his spot from London, he has an "accent," he has never been Sexiest Man Alive before, he's married to a celebrity, he's not an actor, he has kids, he has tattoos, and -- the clincher -- he used to be an athlete. After a guess of Nick Carter (?), someone finally asked if it's David Beckham. And it was! David, 40, thanked his parents, his hairdresser, his stylist, and Photoshop for the honor.
