Netflix has pulled the curtain back on a slate of UK unscripted originals, including reality competition series Bear Hunt, starring Bear Grylls and Holly Willoughby.
Announced at the Next on Netflix showcase in London, Bear Hunt (working title) will feature survival expert Grylls preying on an unlikely group of British celebrities in the Central American jungle.
Here’s the logline: “Bear believes there’s an action hero inside us all – even the celebs – but how strong is their will to survive? The series will premiere next year and will be co-produced by Grylls’ The Natural Studios; Workerbee, the Banijay-backed outfit behind Discovery’s Idris Elba: Fighter; and Fremantle’s Talkback,...

Get out your tourniquets and be ready to carve symbols in your chest with broken light bulb glass because a three-part documentary focusing on the schlock rocker who wasn’t born with enough middle fingers, Marilyn Manson, is coming. British broadcaster Channel 4 is bringing Marilyn Manson: Behind the Mask (working title) to audiences. The documentary project is co-financed by Fifth Season, formally known as Endeavor Content, courtesy of Lightbox as part of a partnership with Rolling Stone.
Marilyn Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, encountered a fall from grace in recent years after a collection of accusations. Evan Rachel Wood accused the Antichrist Superstar of sexual and physical violence. In contrast, Game of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco accused him of sexual assault and sexual battery, with several other women filing civil lawsuits.
Following the allegations, police organized a raid and launched a criminal investigation into Manson’s personal history and alleged crimes.

Sophie: A Murder in West Cork is a three-part series that examines one of the most famous murders to ever occur in Ireland. Based on a true story, the crime documentary follows the life of French documentary producer Sophie Toscan du Plantier, who died in West Cork in 1996. Featuring contributions from du Plantier's family, including her parents, her son, and her uncle, the documentary aims to offer a unique window into the ongoing battle to find justice for Sophie.
Suzanne Lavery, the documentary's executive producer, said that "in making this documentary we wanted to honor Sophie, her family and that rural community in the West of Ireland. Even now, I find it genuinely astonishing that something so terrible could have happened not just to a woman who appeared to have such a gilded life but in such a beautiful place and to a community that prided itself on its peacefulness,...

Netflix’s three-part documentary on Sophie Toscan Du Plantier, the French film and TV producer who was killed while at her isolated holiday cottage in West Cork, Ireland, in 1996, is to premiere on June 30.
Sophie: A Murder In West Cork is produced by Lightbox and will bring together contributions from her family, including her son Pierre-Louis Baudey, with that of Ian Bailey, the man at the center of the investigation.
My Scientology Movie director John Dower is attached to helm the project, while the executive producers are Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn, and Suzanne Lavery. Sarah Lambert produces.
Lavery and Chinn said: “Sophie was much more than a victim of a murder. She was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a filmmaker and a writer. Exclusive: Discovery+ has ordered Curse of the Chippendales, a new four-part true-crime series that revolves around the dark side of the 1980s all-male striptease dance troupe, from Lightbox, the production outfit run by Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmakers Simon and Jonathan Chinn.
Per Discovery+’s description: “The Chippendales achieved a coveted and rare goal: becoming an iconic, household name around the world. Their trademark style of barely-there costumes briefly sported by perfectly-chiseled men would be forever recognized, often emulated, and famously parodied. Their brand became a multi-million-dollar global venture, successful beyond their wildest dreams. But of three unlikely dreamers who were there at the beginning, only one would make it out alive.”

Fishermen, lawyers, pastors, and housewives were in this group of boat enthusiasts who realized that their government wasn’t going to act in time, and mobilized out of a desire to help their fellow citizens survive the flood waters. Even as armed police and Fema officials ordered them to turn back or face arrest or worse, they refused to give up.
