Oh, the irony: In its seventh season, Station 19 is, as the kids would say, fire. New showrunners Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige have done a superlative job of turning up the heat on the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff. So fans are understandably hot under the collar about the fact that before a single one of their episodes had even aired, ABC turned the hose on the first-responders drama, swinging the axe and displacing it from its regular Thursday timeslot. (Instead of kicking off the night, it now ends it at 10/9c.)

“Station 19” is about to hit a huge milestone, but it’s bittersweet.
Just three days into production on Season 7 of the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, as plans for a celebratory 100th episode were beginning to develop, new showrunners Peter Paige and Zoanne Clack learned that the show had been canceled. Season 7 would be its last, tasking them with not only ushering the show into a new era, but also to a satisfying ending. They were not prepared.
“I was sitting on the floor in my underwear, writing,” Paige tells Variety. Clack adds, “I was on a panel in front of 100 people getting constant phone calls, trying to play it off. I didn’t hear what the actual news was until after the panel.”

The seventh and final season premiere of “Station 19” revealed the fate of beloved firefighter Jack Gibson after he collapsed during the tragic accident at the firefighter’s ball in the previous finale. After performing emergency surgery and saving his life, Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) broke the news to newly-promoted captain Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) that her friend and colleague sustained a life-altering brain injury that will bench him from field work permanently.
The episode, titled “This Woman’s Work,” ended with Jack waking up after surgery and congratulating Andy on her promotion — and asking when he would be back on duty.

The ABC drama returns on March 14, and if you’re having trouble facing that this will be the last premiere, you’re not alone. Ortiz knows how hard that is, for herself and for fans. When TV Insider caught up with her recently, we talked to her about that, what’s to come in the final season, and how she thinks it will all end. Talk about getting ready to say goodbye to Andy. Jaina Lee Ortiz: Oh goodness. That’s really hard to talk about without getting a little emotional because I feel like she has been such a huge part of my life for the last six years, and so I think...

Grey’s Anatomy is headed into its 20th season, and that big milestone is front and center in the series’ official poster, which features cast members arranged around the number 20. Like last year’s official cast photo, this year’s poster includes the main cast, plus recurring guest stars Debbie Allen (who is also Grey’s executive producer/director) and Scott Speedman. (The only person missing from last year’s group is Kelly McCreary who exited the series last season.)
Naturally, the three remaining original cast members, Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr., are most prominent.(As Deadline reported in our Season 20 preview, Pompeo, who is an executive producer, will continue to get top billing. While technically no longer a series regular, she still does the voiceovers and recurs, with her character Meredith remaining the heart of the show.)

Station 19 is ending this season, but of course, it won’t be doing so without a crossover with sister series Grey’s Anatomy. “There’s going to be a crazy crossover towards the end,” Station 19 star Jaina Lee Ortiz (who plays Captain Andy Herrera) tells TV Insider ahead of the drama’s seventh and final season premiere on Thursday, March 14 (moving from 8/7c to 10/9c). “I have a feeling there’s going to be a major crossover towards the end of the season. And this character has never visited Grey’s Anatomy in this way.” That is all she can tease, but it certainly has us intrigued! And while Station 19 is coming to a close, Ortiz agrees that since we have yet to hear about this being the final season of Grey’s as well, there’s always the possibility of these characters showing up on the flagship series.

Exclusive: Mucho Mas Media and Bonniedale Entertainment are teaming to release Julio Quintana’s sports drama The Long Game, starring Jay Hernandez and Dennis Quaid, on April 12 in theaters nationwide.
The movie made its world premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival, where it won the Narrative Spotlight Audience Award and notched 75% fresh reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film reps Quintana and Quaid’s reunion after the success of their first film, Netflix’s true-story sports drama Blue Miracle.
The Long Game, inspired by Humberto G. Garcia’s Mustang Miracle, follows the true story of five young Mexican American caddies in 1955 who created their own golf course in the middle of the South Texas brush country. Despite outdated and inferior equipment and no professional instruction to begin with, they would go on to compete against wealthy, all-white teams and win the 1957 Texas State High School Golf Championship.

With Station 19 and Grey’s serving as the only remaining shows on ABC produced by hitmaker Shonda Rhimes — who is now based exclusively at Netflix — why would the network ax one of its Thursday staples? The answer can be found in the math.
Station 19, which started off as a backdoor pilot in season 14 of Grey’s, finished the 2022-23 broadcast season as the No. 13 drama among the advertiser-coveted...
