Carnaby International has acquired the worldwide sales rights to popular children’s brand Captain Pugwash which will set sail next year as a live-action, family comedy-adventure.
The deal was brokered by Carnaby International’s joint CEO, Sean O’Kelly, together with Elliot Jenkins of Atticus Pictures.
With cast set to be announced imminently, the live-action feature tells an origins story that is set in the Golden Age of Piracy.
Cowardly con-artist Pugwash is put on a ship to Botany Bay but soon escapes and has the good fortune to find himself at the helm of The Black Pig on a mission to rescue Cabin Boy Tom’s father who has been marooned on a volcanic island with a hoard of treasure protected by an army of angry ghosts. Untitled project will chronicle the author’s marriage to actress Patricia Neal.
Hugh Bonneville will play Roald Dahl in a new film exploring the novelist’s marriage to Oscar-winning actress Patricia Neal.
London-based outfit Goldcrest Films are financing and will introduce the project to the market at Cannes.
Set at the beginning of the 1960s, the film explores Dahl’s struggles to write some of his most famous works and Neal’s return to acting with Hud (for which she won an Oscar).
An acclaimed British children’s author, Dahl’s works included James And The Giant Peach, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and Matilda.
John Hay will direct from his own screenplay which he co-wrote with David Logan. The pair previously collaborated on the Emmy-winning TV drama Lost Christmas.
Currently untitled, their new project is based on Stephen Michael Shearer’s novel An Unquiet Life.

French sales company Other Angle Pictures has secured a raft of pre-sales on John Hay’s upcoming post-wwii spy drama Lives In Secret, starring Kelly Reilly and Tim Roth.
“We’re very happy with this market in terms of the deals we’ve done and the great reception we had for our new and upcoming projects,” commented company MD Olivier Albou.
Lives In Secret has sold to Australia (Vendetta Films), South Africa (M-Net), Latin America (Cdc United Network), Middle East (Falcon) and ex-Yugoslavia (2i Films) and is in advance talks for the UK, France, Belgium and Japan.
Adapted from Sarah Helm’s A Life In Secrets, the film tells the true story of Vera Atkins, a British intelligence officer who trained and dispatched hundreds of agents to Occupied France.
After the war, Atkins made it her personal mission to ascertain the fate...
