Jose Zelada and Richard Claus’ “Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon”, Cesar Cabral’s “Bob Spit: We Do Not Like People” (Brazil) and Hugo Covarrubias’ Oscar-nommed “Beast” (Chile) are some of the animated works in the running for the 5th Quirino Awards, the biggest prize event on Spain, Portugal and Latin America’s burgeoning animation scene.
In addition to a ceremony, the Quirino Awards includes an industry co-production and business forum for animation titles from the region.
The Quirino event will also host meetings including one of the Ibero-American Caaci state film-tv agencies, and another of Ibermedia, the region’s key international co-pro and distribution fund.
Brazilian feature “Bob Spit” and Chilean short “Beast” nabbed the highest number of nominations, each securing four. Mexican TV series “Frankelda’s Book of Spooks” and Peruvian movie “Ainbo” follow with three and two noms respectively.

Ludo Studio.s Daley Pearson seems to have an ongoing fascination with peculiar events and the supernatural.
Pearson created The Strange Calls, the ABC TV comedy starring Toby Truslove as a Gold Coast cop who investigates weird things that happen after dark; a Us remake is being developed by 20th TV for the ABC network.
Now Daley and his Ludo Studio partner Charlie Aspinwall are developing The Strange Chores, a 2D animated series for ABC3 about two 12-year-old boys, both troublemakers, who earn pocket money by doing bizarre chores for their mysterious neighbour. The boys. adventures often involve supernatural elements.
Neither guy had any experience in animation so they reached out to Media World.s Colin South, who produced the toon series Dogstar and The New Adventures of Ocean Girl as well as live action drama The Circuit and the movie Stone Bros.
South is serving as an executive producer...

Hit musical drama The Sapphires has scored 12 nominations at the 2012 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (Aacta) Awards including in the coveted best feature film category.
The Sapphires, which follows four indigenous singers during the Vietnam war, has grossed more than $14 million in Australia to become the biggest local film of the year.
Three other films will be also be vying for the best feature film award: Burning Man (10 nominations in total), Lore (eight nominations in total) and Wish You Were Here (eight nominations in total) at the main Aacta ceremony, which will be held on January 30, 2013, at The Star Event Centre. Last year's event was held at the iconic Sydney Opera House.
P.J. Hogan's Mental also scored eight nominations including Best Lead Actress (Toni Collette), Best Supporting Actor (Liev Schreiber) Best Young Actor (Lily Sullivan) and Best Supporting Actress for Rebecca Gibney and Deborah Mailman.

COLOGNE, Germany -- German kids broadcaster KI.KA and Dutch media fund European Film Partners have joined forces with Mike Young Prods. to co-produce new preschool animated series "Chloe's Closet".
The series follows the adventures of little Chloe who, together with her security blanket, enters into a series of fantasy worlds while playing dress up in her closet.
MYP, KI.KA and EFP will co-produce the 52 11-minute episodes together with Germany's Trickcompany, Ireland's Telegael, Welsh channel S4C and Animation Dimension of India. "Chloe's Closet" will shoot at studios in Germany, Wales, Ireland and India.
"As one of the show's original co-developers (with MYP), we are especially happy to kick off the production with them as well," said Sebastian Debertin, head of fiction, acquisition and co-production at KI.KA. "Mike Young Prods. has developed a reputation worldwide for producing high-quality entertainment for kids and we're certain 'Chloe's Closet' will be next."
Separately, EFP will take over sales duties on programs from MYP and France's MoonScoop in the Benelux and Scandinavian territories.
