Shortly before his final departure from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, President Barack Obama welcomed one more World Series-winning team through those hallowed doors, marking his final official White House event during his presidency.

The world champion Chicago Cubs visited the White House on Monday, following a Twitter invitation extended by the president back in November after the team cinched the big win against the Cleveland Indians.
Though typically a White Sox fan, Obama welcomed the first Cubs team to win the World Series in 108 years with open arms, joking during his livestream speech, "It took you long enough!"
"Even I was not crazy enough to suggest that, during these eight years, we would see the Cubs win the World Series," he continued, before mentioning First Lady Michelle Obama's longtime fandom. "Flotus is a lifelong Cubs fan."

Chicago – The 2011 Best of the Midwest Awards were presented on Tuesday, December 6th at the Rockit Bar and Grill in downtown Chicago, an annual ceremony that celebrates Chicago’s Midwest Independent Film Festival. HollywoodChicago.com’s Patrick McDonald and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, the co-host of “Ebert Presents: At the Movies,” were among the presenters.
Festival Director Mike McNamara was the Master of Ceremonies, giving out eight awards for the best of the 2011 season. The Midwest Independent Film Festival convenes Every first Tuesday of the month throughout the year, and showcases films directly associated with the Midwest area. This year was one of the strongest ever, as reflected in the level of winners and Midwest films that were showcased.

As long as the Chicago Cubs are baseball's perennial losers, people will remember Steve Bartman and what he did on October 13, 2003.
