“American Idol’s” executive producer and showrunner Megan Michaels Wolflick just wrapped up one of the strongest seasons yet of ABC’s reality TV show, which ended with Abi Carter claiming victory on finale night. “It’s exciting to have a girl winner, and someone that really brought it from her first audition,” she tells us about the 21-year-old pop ballad singer from California. “She really had a magic moment when she first auditioned with ‘What Was I Made For?’ in L.A. for the judges, and I think she only grew from there.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Speaking about the longevity of “American Idol,” Michaels Wolflick proclaims, “This show is a brand. It is a trusted brand. I do feel like it is, in my mind, the NFL of singing shows as far as you come to us because you trust in the process. It’s a show about the finalists.

The Monday, April 22 live episode of “American Idol” Season 22 proved to be the end of the road for two fan-fave singers: Jayna Elise and Roman Collins. They were the only artists in the Top 12 that failed to earn enough votes from viewers to make it into next week’s all-important Top 10. Host Ryan Seacrest delivered the unfortunate news in front of judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The guest mentor for “Billboard #1 Hits” night was Meghan Trainor.

The Monday, April 22 live episode of “American Idol” Season 22 proved to be the end of the road for two fan-fave singers: Roman Collins and Jayna Elise.
Throughout the competition, Roman sang tunes like “Living for the City” (Auditions round), “Come Together” (Showstopper round), “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)” (Top 24 round), “Never Would Have Made It”, “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”, “You’re All I Need to Get By” (Top 14 round) and “Roar” (Top 12 round). The Top 12 were revealed in a live two-hour broadcast of “American Idol” Sunday night. Host Ryan Seacrest called the Top 14 to the stage to perform on “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night,” mentored by Gene Simmons. In a poll conducted just after the episode, we asked, “Which contestant gave the best performance of the night?” For the second week in a row Abi Carter came out on top, this time with her rendition of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John. Watch her full performance above.
“It’s always been you,” Katy Perry gushed following Abi’s performance. Luke Bryan complimented the singer for holding the whole room “like a pro” and Lionel Richie applauded everyone in “this class” for a superb episode of television.

The first live coast-to-coast episode of “American Idol” Season 22 aired on Sunday, April 21 on ABC, with the Top 14 contestants performing in front of host Ryan Seacrest, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and guest mentor Gene Simmons. Viewers all across the nation voted 19.9 million times throughout the two-hour episode, which had a theme of “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” and the Top 12 artists made it to the next round. In the end, the two singers who were eliminated were Nya and Jordan Anthony.
Throughout the competition, Nya sang tunes like “Wait a Minute!” (Auditions round), “Get Ready” (Showstopper round), “The Best” (Top 24 round), “Georgia on My Mind”, “Water” and “I Say a Little Prayer” (Top 14 round). The 28-year-old Broadway performer from Manhattan, New York was an early favorite on the show, but the judges had to save her last week when she placed in the bottom — never a good sign.
