As a spin-off from such hits as The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth was set up for a successful start. However, it's the charm of lead actress Carrie Preston and the twisted mysteries she solves that keep people coming back for more. Though repetitive due to its formula, the show is highly entertaining and has kept many fans coming back for more.
While many viewers are hoping and praying for the second season so the show can have more creative freedom and add some variety to the stories, others are happy with what they're getting. Especially since Elsbeth isn't afraid to reference a show or two to make things more interesting for the most attentive fans.

You'd think that in an episode centered around a bar and its owner, Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 9 would have some sort of death by the drink, but in this episode, the murderer went with an oldie but a classic.
In "Sweet Justice," audiences meet Joe, the owner of an exclusive high-end bar who decides to take justice into his own hands by murdering one of his patron's bullies.
It would almost be sweet if his form of justice didn't involve homicide, oh, and killing the wrong woman.
Gracing the small screen this week for yet another familiar face is Arian Moayed.
Surprisingly, he did not already appear in The Good Wife or The Good Fight, but viewers might recognize him from Succession.
As for his character, anyone who frequents Netflix might notice some similarities between this Joe and another who also enjoys stalking women who have caught his eye in a little show called "You.

It's about time Elsbeth lived her Sex & The City realness in the next episode. A round of cosmopolitans for the girls!
Seriously, the drink is full of electrolytes and antioxidants.
In Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 9, the aptly named "police of the police" finds herself sipping more than the usual tea when an exclusive cocktail bar owner takes justice into his own hands.
By the looks of things, Elsbeth will be mixing business with pleasure when she clinks glasses with Joe, played by Arian Moayed, known for his role as Stewy Hosseini in Succession.
With only this and one more episode to close out the show's first season, audiences are likely to see equal parts of the weekly murders and the ongoing case of Wagner's false accusation of corruption.
Speaking of the captain, while he's given more than enough reasons to believe he is entirely innocent, the detective also seems...

Exclusive: CBS’ Elsbeth will count on three additional guest stars for its Season 1 cast: Elizabeth Lail (Five Nights At Freddy’s), Arian Moayed (Succession) and Laura Benanti (The Gilded Age). Following a brief hiatus, the show returns April 4 with two episodes.
Elsbeth follows the titular Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), an astute but unconventional attorney who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD following her successful career in Chicago. In addition to Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson round out the series regular cast as Captain Wagner and Kaya Blanke, respectively. Gloria Reuben recurs as Wagner’s wife, Claudia Payne. “The Crown” is gearing up for its last hurrah at the SAG Awards, an organization that has bestowed a number of prizes onto the Netflix regal show over the years. It claimed the highly coveted TV drama ensemble prize twice (2019 and ’20), while individual winners through the years were Claire Foy (2016 and ’17), John Lithgow (2016) and Gillian Anderson (2020). Now the sixth and final season is hoping to prevail for a third time, which would tie it with “Downton Abbey” in this category at three total wins.
Season 6 faces off in the TV drama ensemble race against fellow nominees “The Gilded Age,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show” and “Succession.” Elizabeth Debicki is “The Crown’s” only solo acting nominee this year, with her co-nominees in the TV drama actress category being Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).

Kieran Culkin quipped to his wife onstage that he’s ready to grow their family following his first-ever Emmy win on Monday night’s 2023 Emmys.
“My beautiful wife, Jazz, thank you for sharing your life with me and giving me two amazing kids, Kinsey Sioux and Wilder Wolf, I love you so many and so much,” Culkin said from the stage. “And Jazz: I want more. You said maybe if I win.”
His joke was met with laughter from the theater as Jazz also smiled and laughed in her seat.
Culkin received the Emmy award for best actor in a drama series for his performance as Roman Roy in Succession, which released its fourth and final season in 2023. “Succession” is going out in style!
The HBO drama took home the big prize — Outstanding Drama Series — at the Emmys on January 15 for the fourth and final season of the buzzy hit.
Prior to this year, “Succession” had already won 13 Emmys. This year, it scored 26 nominations, including individual ones for basically all the cast: Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, J. Smith-Cameron, James Cromwell, Arian Moayed, Hiam Abbass, Cherry Jones and Harriet Walter.
“Succession” previously won the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy in 2022 (for Season 3) and 2020 (Season 2) and was nominated for Season 1 in 2019. A bit of award season intrigue: Both Culkin and Snook switched from Supporting to Lead categories for the final season, given their larger roles during the final installments.

This year’s SAG Awards nominations for drama ensemble run the gamut in terms of total cast members nominated. You have “The Gilded Age” on one side with a jaw-dropping 34 people represented. And then you have “The Last of Us” on the other side with just two — hi, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! HBO’s zombie apocalypse series has now tied the Screen Actors Guild record with “Key and Peele,” which was the first TV show to nab an ensemble citation with just two stars: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
The “Key and Peele” funny duo lost to “Orange Is the New Black” for comedy ensemble in 2016, which had a whopping 34 cast members nominated that year. Hmm, a two-person cast losing to a 34-person ensemble? Might SAG Awards history repeat itself? “The Last of Us” competes this year against “The Gilded Age” (34 cast members), “Succession” (18), “The Crown” (15) and “The Morning Show...

He was previously nominated three times for hosting the reality program “Making It.”

When the nominations for the 1959 Primetime Emmys were revealed, 13-year-old supporting candidate Johnny Crawford (“The Rifleman”) became the youngest male acting contender in TV academy history and then retained the title for the next six and a half decades. After so many years of his record appearing to be unbreakable, it was finally shattered this summer by Best Drama Guest Actor nominee Keivonn Montreal Woodard, who turned 10 this February. His historic bid for HBO’s “The Last of Us” makes him not only a credit to child actors but also to deaf performers, as no male one had ever earned Emmy recognition before.
Woodard appears in two first-season episodes of “The Last of Us” as Sam Burrell, a survivor of both leukemia and a pandemic-induced apocalypse who lives under the guardianship of his adult brother, Henry (Lamar Johnson). In his submitted episode, “Endure and Survive,” his comic book-loving character forms...

Nick Offerman has been a bit of an Emmys bridesmaid so far, as the versatile actor has been nominated three times in his career but failed to turn any of them into cold, hard wins he can put on his shelf. This year, he earned his fourth nomination — and, surprisingly, his first one as an actor. He was nominated for Best Drama Guest Actor for HBO’s hugely successful video-game adaptation “The Last of Us.”
In the show, Offerman appears as Bill in episode three — “Long, Long Time.” Perhaps the most emotional episode of the entire series, Offerman is front and center of the drama and truly gets a chance to show off his acting chops. Bill lives a solitary life on his compound when the epidemic breaks out. But his uneasy quiet is disturbed when Murray Bartlett‘s Frank stumbles upon the land. Bill is reluctant to help the...

After earning the first Emmy nomination of his career last year for his hilariously shrewd character Stewy on “Succession,” Arian Moayed has nabbed his second bid for Drama Guest Actor for the final season of the acclaimed HBO series. The actor has been a staple member of the ensemble for all four seasons, an old friend of Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) who has been both an ally and rival as he’s gone from trying to take over the company with other backers to one of its most influential board members.
Moayed is once again nominated alongside his fellow “Succession” guest star James Cromwell. Aside from the two of them, the category is made up of performers from “The Last of Us”: Murray Bartlett, Lamar Johnson, Nick Offerman, and Keivonn Montreal Woodard.

Just one year after HBO’s “Succession” broke new ground as the first drama series to ever receive four male guest acting Emmy nominations at once, the same network’s “The Last of Us” has matched the impressive feat. Included among those currently recognized for their special appearances on the post-apocalyptic video game adaptation is Lamar Johnson, who has built an extensive acting resume over the past 15 years. Having just turned 29 in July, he ranks as the fourth youngest Best Drama Guest Actor nominee ever and has a shot at becoming the category’s all-time youngest victor.
Johnson’s very first Emmy notice comes for his portrayal of Henry Burrell, a one-time government informant attempting to evade capture by ruthless resistance leader Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey). The actor’s episode submission, “Endure and Survive,” shows that Henry never has much time to dwell on his dire situation as an apocalypse survivor...

Murray Bartlett is having a very special moment. After winning his first Emmy last year, the actor has followed up that victory with not one but two nominations this year as he looks to continue his hot streak. One of those bids this year is for Best Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actor for “Welcome to Chippendales,” while his second comes for HBO’s drama “The Last of Us,” which amassed a whopping 25 Emmy bids. Specifically, Bartlett was nominated for Best Drama Guest Actor for his emotional role as Frank in episode three of the show.
That episode, titled “Long, Long Time,” was touted as one of the very best in the entire series and was certainly the most heartbreaking. The episode flashes back to Frank leaving Baltimore as the epidemic spread. Soon after, he stumbles across a protected compound belonging to Nick Offerman‘s Bill, who, at first, is reluctant...

It’s always a delight when a major star comes to Broadway.
This past season saw Jessica Chastain and Arian Moayed in a bare bones revival of “A Doll’s House,” as well as Jodie Comer win a Tony for her performance in one-woman show “Prima Facie.” There was Sara Bareilles in “Into the Woods” and Laura Linney in “Summer 1976” — and now, a whole new roster of famous names are taking on Broadway this fall, including Daniel Radcliffe, Danny DeVito, and more.
“It’s exhausting but also invigorating,” Chastain told the Today Show about the theater. “I love doing theater. It’s what I first wanted to do. The opportunity that I could live in New York City and do theater, I feel so excited after a performance. I’m so exhausted but I can’t take a nap. I have too much adrenaline!”

The Creative Coalition’s annual Humanitarian Awards takes place the week of the Primetime Emmys — but even though the big show was pushed to January, the benefit luncheon still took place on Thursday, Sept. 14 at the La Peer Hotel rooftop in West Hollywood, attracting a wide range of honorees and presenters.
The Humanitarian Awards recognizes talent who donate their time, resources and their celebrity to promote worthy social causes. This year, honors went to Jason Alexander, Pauline Chalamet, Billy Eichner, Wendie Malick, Arian Moayed and Lena Waithe, as well as Josefina López, who was saluted with the Your Voice Carries Weight award. Presenters included Alyssa Milano, Cazzie David, Lawrence O’Donnell, Gloria Calderón Kellet, Samantha Hanratty, Debbie Levin, Bradley Whitford and Darnell Moore.
Variety co-editor-in-chief Cynthia Littleton hosted the luncheon, which opened with remarks from The Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk; both cited the org’s continued fight for arts funding and education.

When the 2023 Emmy Award nominations were announced back in July, it was expected that shows like "The Last of Us" and "Succession" would dominate the playing field. What was surprising to many fans, however, was that the Netflix juggernaut "Stranger Things" was shut out of the series and acting categories. Breakout star Joseph Quinn stole the show with his turn as metalhead Eddie Munson, while Sadie Sink's Max Mayfield was at the center of arguably one of the best scenes in the series' entire run. Well, the reason for the so-called snubbing of "Stranger Things" has nothing to do with the quality of work, and everything to do with eligibility rules.
Back in June 2022, the TV Academy finally got rid of the "hangover episode rule," which made it so series that debuted before the May 31 cut-off could include episodes that aired after the eligibility deadline, but before nomination voting,...

This time, his special skill is driving. Check out the logline below:
When a mysterious caller puts a bomb under his car seat, Matt Turner (Neeson) begins a high-speed chase across the city to complete a specific series of tasks. That sound you heard on Emmy nominations morning was the “Parks and Recreation” group chat blowing up. Three of the cult TV comedy’s cast members were nominated at the 2023 Emmys, making this year’s ceremony a full-on “Parks & Rec” reunion. Amy Poehler is cited for her work hosting the reality show “Baking It” (alongside Maya Rudolph), Aubrey Plaza is up for her supporting role on “The White Lotus,” and Nick Offerman is nominated for his guest stint on “The Last of Us.”
For those keeping track at home, only Poehler earned Emmy love back in the “Parks & Rec” days, which aired between 2009 and 2015 on NBC. She received six consecutive Best Comedy Actress bids (2010-2015) for her role as Leslie Knope, the overachieving department head in Pawnee, Indiana. Poehler also picked up two producing bids when the show was recognized for Best Comedy Series (2011 and ’15.)

The Writers Guild of America East has also canceled its pickets in New York on Friday and changed the scheduling for its Thursday Comedy Writers Picket at NBCUniversal. That event will now end at 11 a.m. Et.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the New York area starting at 11 a.m. Et Thursday through 9 p.m. Et Friday. The agency warns of “dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108 expected.

To celebrate the release of Nicole Holofcener’s beautifully observed new comedy You Hurt My Feelings, I spoke to Iranian American actor Arian Moayed about playing an actor in the midst of a crisis of confidence.
You Hurt My Feelings is a movie about trust, lies, and the things we say to the people we love most. It is led by multi-award-winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep), and also stars Tobias Menzies (The Crown), Arian Moayed (Succession), David Cross (Arrested Development), Sunita Mani (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Jeannie Berlin (The Fabelmans).
Moayed spoke to us about his hankering for the heydays of indie comedies in the 90s. We also chatted about his brilliant portrayal of the duplicitous Stewy in the award winning show Succession and how much he enjoyed playing a villain for a change.Elsewhere, we also spoke about how he managed to avoid typecasting in Hollywood and his...

Bryan Cranston addressed Disney boss Bob Iger during a passionate strike speech in New York City on Tuesday.
The Breaking Bad star — speaking at the “Rock the City for a Fair Contract” SAG-AFTRA rally — declared: “We’ve got a message for Mr. Iger: I know, sir, that you look at things through a different lens. We don’t expect you to understand who we are. But we ask you to hear us, and beyond that to listen to us when we tell you we will not be having our jobs taken away and given to robots. We will not have you take away our right to work and earn a decent living. And lastly, and most importantly, we will not allow you to take away our dignity!”

The 2023 Best Drama Guest Actor Emmy lineup consists of a balanced mix of outside winners, past nominees, and total first-timers whose wide age range runs from 10 to 83. Nick Offerman (“The Last of Us”) has been leading the pack all season, but all six final contenders have more than reasonable claims to victory. This includes Murray Bartlett, whose own mention for the same “Last of Us” installment comes on the heels of his 2022 supporting triumph for “The White Lotus” and is coupled with another featured limited series bid for “Welcome to Chippendales.”
“The Last of Us” immediately follows “Succession” as the second show to ever concurrently receive four nominations in this category. Its other two went to Emmy newcomers Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Montreal Woodard, with the remaining slots being filled by returning “Succession” hopefuls James Cromwell and Arian Moayed.
Since all of these performances are strong in their own ways...
