Exclusive: Gia Sandhu (The Mysterious Benedict Society) has signed on to executive produce and star in Alterations, the first feature from writer-director Sean Wainsteim.
In the film, a woman and a non-verbal girl serving as live-in caregivers are invited to stay in a house where their every desire is fulfilled, as long as they mend mysterious clothing for fairytale creatures.
Sandhu will play Leila, the woman traveling with rebellious 12-year-old Nadia and a suitcase of her belongings, who is desperate for a safe place to call home. When she finds a situation that seems too good to be true, she’s willing to ignore some… odd occurrences and make the best of things. As she starts to uncover her role in a larger narrative, Leila is forced to balance her time with Nadia with explorations into her own power, creativity and ability to change.

Becoming obsessed with the connection between humans and our more savage ancestors and primitive roots is a powerful inspiration for filmmakers who wish to create strange fairy tales and mythological creatures for the screen. That captivating idea strongly inspired Fritz Böhm to make his feature film writing and directorial debuts with the new horror movie, […]

The Kids Are Not Alright: Böhm Bares His Fangs In Tepid Feral Frightfest
Children are scary enough without them being feral, and that fear is exactly what Fritz Böhm exploits in this new horror-fantasy feature. As a teenager uncovers the secrets behind her traumatic childhood (confined entirely to one room), her body begins to change in the most unexpected ways, stepping past average puberty into the realm of Rick Baker body horror. Wildling has such a strong cast and intriguing premise that jousts with nonsensical character arcs, lukewarm atmosphere, and images so dark that whatever happened on screen is still…...

On Friday the 13th (of April), Fritz Böhm’s lycanthropic fairy tale Wildling will arrive in theaters in both Los Angeles and New York, and it will also be available on VOD nationwide. The film is centered on Anna (Bel Powley), a teenage girl raised in isolation by “Daddy” and taught to fear the “Wildlings” (vicious creatures that eat children). After being rescued by a local sheriff (Liv Tyler), Anna is introduced to the outside world for the very first time, but as Anna begins her journey of discovery, things spiral out of control, as she suspects that her “Daddy” wasn’t telling her everything about her true nature and how it relates to the folklore she grew up fearing.
The first-time feature from Böhm, Wildling co-stars James Le Gros, Troy Ruptash, and Mike Faist. The film recently celebrated its world premiere at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival, which is where...

Fritz Böhm’s Wildling is a tooth-and-nail sensuality tale that’s endearingly genrefied upon first and second acts, but millimeters short of a howlin’ good finish. Woodland legends are told and beastly savages teased, all while coming-of-self complexities of the female experience run a strong thematic current. An adolescent girl who is left to fend for herself against aggressive teenage boys, departed parents and womanly welcomings that are otherwise treated as dangerously unleashed. So much to say while transformation hints are contained, relevant in a world of sheltered realities. Love in a time of hairballs – with much more to show, I promise.
Explorations center around Anna (Bel Powley), who is found heavily medicated and detached from reality. “Daddy” (Brad Dourif) kept her locked away from the world, feeding the child fables about “Wildlings” who’d come and eat her if she escaped into the thick wilderness. Doctors want to shove the scared,...

Remember how Bel Powley sort of took the world by storm with her disarming turn in Marielle Heller’s The Diary of a Teenage Girl? Well, look out because she’s returning to the coming-of-age genre that helped put her on the map. By all accounts, though, Wildling promises to be a much darker affair. Directed by Fritz Böhm from a script he co-wrote with Florian Eder, the film feels like a thematic kissing cousin of Raw and Ginger Snaps. Read on for the official synopsis and check out an exciting trailer below: Wildling is a dark fantasy tale centered on young Anna (Bel Powley) who spends her entire childhood in a single room under the care of a mysterious man she only knows as "Daddy" (Brad...

Wildling is Fritz Böhm’s first feature film, and it’s such an assured debut, darkly mystical and elegant. This nighttime fairy tale tells the story of Anna (Bel Powley), a young woman who’s spent much of her life locked in a room like Rapunzel, with only “Daddy” (Lord of the Rings’ Brad Dourif, in an equally […]

Growing up with fairy tales at bedtime from his mother, writer/director Fritz Böhm took these stories to heart. Indeed, these fairy tales were the critical influence behind the director’s feature directorial debut, the horror-fantasy thriller Wildling. Starring Liv Tyler, Troy Ruptash, and James LeGros, the SXSW-premiering film follows a blossoming teenager who uncovers a dark secret behind her traumatic childhood. In the film, as Böhm tells it, he would be able to create…...

Earlier this weekend, this writer had the opportunity to check out two wildly different films that enjoyed their world premieres as part of SXSW’s 2018 Visions slate: Fritz Böhm’s Wildling and Prospect from the directorial team of Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell. Even though both movies feature a coming-of-age tale that centers on the relationship between a father and daughter, they are vastly different from each other, with Wildling going for more of a modern fairy tale approach, and Prospect being something of a scrappy yet wonderfully ambitious sci-fi western.
Wildling: For his feature film debut, Fritz Böhm introduces us to the world of “wildlings,” dangerous forest-dwelling creatures who steal and feast upon small children. We’re told about the threat they pose via a bedtime story from Daddy (Brad Dourif) who reminds his young daughter Anna of the threats that exist all around her. Because of the wildlings,...

Rising UK talent Bel Powley stars opposite Liv Tyler in Wildling, which is currently in post.

The custodian raises the girl to fear the outside world with stories of a beast that prowls beyond the four walls. When she is freed at the age of 16, the youngster’s biggest challenge begins. Germany’s Fritz Böhm makes his feature directorial debut.
