Last night the building site in central London that used to be Leicester Square was restored temporarily to its former glory for the premiere of War Horse. We were there, and managed to have a few very interesting conversations with some of the cast and crew of the movie, including Jeremy Irvine, who spoke about his experience working with Spielberg, Emily Watson on how seeing the play affected her performance and Richard Curtis on the influence Blackadder played on the script.

Thirteen years since Saving Private Ryan and six since his last ‘serious’ work in Munich, Steven Spielberg pulls out all the stops for his newest Wwi epic War Horse. Based on the 1982 children’s novel by Michael Morpurgo that was recently adapted into a Tony Award-winning stage play earlier this year, the title deceives as far as explaining the true subject of the work. While we follow Joey the horse from birth to the savage conditions of the Great War, he is merely the lynchpin connecting us to the myriad of tales enveloping him. Eventually fighting for the British and the Germans, this horse becomes a miracle beast signifying hope for all. Seemingly invincible, compassionate to friends, and as magnificent as old Ted Narracott (Peter Mullan) imagined when buying him for thirty guineas, Joey’s experiences on the battlefield and beyond serve as a riveting return to form for the film’s auteur.

War Horse, one of two movies Steven Spielberg is attached to, will hit the big screen on December 25th. So far the only marketing we have seen is moving trailer that proves it is an Oscar contender. But now the film, based Michael Morpurgo‘s novel and the stage play, has its very first poster, and if you haven’t already noticed it is based on the book cover.
Directed by Spielberg, War Horse is based on the popular novel and stage play written by Michael Morpurgo. The story is about a boy named Albert (played by Jeremy Irvine) who goes through great lengths to retrieve his horse after he is sold to a World War I Calvary.
The film also stars Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch, Niels Arestrup, Nicolas Bro, David Kross, Leonard Carow, Rainer Bock, Robert Emms and Patrick Kennedy

Jeremy Irvine to make his film debut in lead role, with Emily Watson and Peter Mullan among actors confirmed in huge international cast
Steven Spielberg is galloping ahead with plans for his forthcoming adaptation of the British stage hit War Horse, according to Empire. Having only last month announced that he will take charge of the film himself, the Oscar-winning film-maker today revealed the main cast for the project, which is due to hit Us cinemas in August 2011.
There's a strong British feel, as you might expect from a film which centres on a young Devon farmhand who braves the trenches of the first world war in an effort to find his beloved colt, Joey. Jeremy Irvine, a young actor who has worked with both the National Youth Theatre and the RSC, will make his film debut in the lead role of Albert, with Emily Watson and Peter Mullan set to play his parents.

A slew of internationally diverse cast will join "War Horse" filming in U.K. this August. Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, Jeremy Irvine, David Thewlis and Benedict Cumberbatch have all been confirmed by Empire Online to back up the war drama movie produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg.
The movie particularly draws interest since it would be Spielberg's first movie to debut in wide screen after the 2008 "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". Also, it will have the similar tone to the 1987 film "Empire of the Sun" which propelled Christian Bale's career as a child actor and garnered 6 Oscar nominations.
"War Horse", which is based on Michael Morpurgo's novel, is set in 1914 and centers on Joey, a beautiful bay-red foal with a distinctive cross on his nose that is sold to the army and thrust into the midst of the war on the Western Front.

We’ve been hearing names for Steven Spielberg’s next film, War Horse, for weeks now but Empire has revealed a complete cast list, and most of them are relatively unknown.
Leading the Wwi drama is Jeremy Irvine, a British theatre actor and regular on the UK series “Life Bites,” but a newcomer to the world of features. Irvine joins a long list of young talent discovered by Spielberg, including Christian Bale, Drew Barrymore, and Joseph Mazzello, who starred in Jurassic Park as a child but recently delivered an impressive portrayal in “The Pacific.”
Irvine will play Albert, the young owner of the horse before the animal is sold to the British army during the war. Emily Watson and Peter Mullan will play Albert’s mother and father. Niels Arestrup (A Prophet) is set as the grandfather of a young French girl (Celine Buckens) who takes in the Awol horse.
