This is a find. Writer-director Laurence Vannicelli’s follow-up to his little-seen debut Vera represents a classy, spare shard of quasi-horror so elevated it’s barely horror at all despite the deployment of a few supernatural bangs and whizzes. It’s more in the tradition of psychological thrillers from the old days that critics still pine for, such as Don’t Look Now (1973) or Obsession (1976), all teasing ambiguity and deep dives into the messier corners of lovers’ psyches. In this case, Mother, May I? goes sniffing around the dark cellars of the mind where men keep complicated feelings about their mothers locked up, but which break out and play havoc with romantic relationships in the present.

Mother, May I? has lots of themes it wants to explore, ranging from childhood traumas and poor parenting to adult relationship dynamics and the turbulent artistic path. Through the two characters Emmett and Anya that Laurence Vanicelli created, most of these themes are nicely explored, but a question is also raised: is it always a good thing to confront repressed and deeply traumatic emotions? In Mother, May I?, whose title immediately evokes the act of asking for permission and hence is related to authoritative and disciplinary actions, there is an investigation of parental roles and the effect they have on one’s life.
Emmett loses his mother, who abandoned him in his childhood, and now he has to visit her house in order to sell it. His mother was a dancer, a creative person lost in the pursuit of artistic excellence, and Emmett’s fiancé is also related to that same domain.

Directed by Laurence Vannicelli, the movie creates a web of psychological tension that keeps us engaged and intrigued throughout the film. With its clever storytelling, it dives into the intricate bond between mothers and children and also shows how society’s expectations can influence women’s choices about becoming mothers. Plot: When Emmett and his fiancée Anya spend some time in the house that belonged to Emmett’s deceased mother, Anya starts acting just like the dead woman.
Review: Writer/director Laurence Vannicelli’s film Mother, May I? (watch it Here) has been described as a psychological thriller, but any genre fans who turn to this one hoping for heart-pumping scenes of thrills and scares won’t get what they’re looking for. This isn’t really the sort of movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. While there are certainly moments where characters display strange behavior that might creep you out, for the most part Mother, May I? might be better described as a “psycho-drama”… and playing out all this drama allows lead actors Holland Roden and Kyle Gallner to turn the film into a great showcase of their skills.

An older woman’s dead body lies on the floor in the opening scene of writer/director Laurence Vannicelli’s Mother, May I? The camera pulls back slowly, revealing a rustic but lived-in cabin near a lake. This is followed by a brisk montage as the body is collected, cleaned, and finally incinerated before the ash is poured into a plastic container and presented to her son, Emmett (Kyle Gallner).
When the funeral director (Michael Giannone) offers his condolences and suggests a more attractive urn for the remains, Emmett promptly declines. Immediately after obtaining the ashes, Emmett and his fiancé Anya (Holland Roden) drive back to the cottage, where Emmett offers the following eulogy: “Thank you for giving me life. And the house.” He then dumps the ashes, without ceremony, into the lake, observing that “She’s fish food” compared to the plastic container that “is gonna last forever.”

There’s nothing that would be considered Lovecraftian about writer/director Laurence Vannicelli’s new film Mother, May I? but that quote leapt into my mind while I was watching it due to the backstories of the two leads, Emmet whose mother abandoned him as a child and his fiancee Anya’s psychiatrist mother gave her a childhood that lacked warmth and affection.
As the film opens Emmet’s mother has just died and left her large house in the country to him, the closest thing to contact they’ve had in years. He plans on cleaning it up and selling it Asap, the money will put them in a better position to start their own family. She sees...

The MTV series Teen Wolf – which was loosely inspired by the 1985 comedy film Teen Wolf (watch our Awfully Good video on that movie Here) – wrapped up its six season run back in 2017, and back in January it got a feature film follow-up on the Paramount+ streaming service. (Read our review of Teen Wolf: The Movie at This Link.) Now Paramount+ is hoping that movie is going to rack up multiple Primetime Emmy Awards nominations.
Variety reports that the streaming service has submitted Teen Wolf: The Movie for Emmys consideration in the following categories: Outstanding Television Movie, Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Tyler Posey), Directing (Russell Mulcahy), Writing, Prosthetic Makeup and Original Music and Lyrics (“Lemon” by Tyler Posey).
Since Posey was also a producer on the film, Variety notes that these submissions give him three chances to earn an Emmy nod.

Mother May I?: "Mother, May I?, a psychological thriller from writer-director Laurence Vannicelli and featuring stars Kyle Gallner (Smile, Dinner In America) and Holland Roden (Teen Wolf) comes to theaters and on VOD on July 21st.
The spine-chilling film is the debut feature from writer-director Laurence Vannicelli, and it marks a breakthrough in mind-bending horror. Emmett (Kyle Gallner) and Anya (Holland Roden) unexpectedly inherit his estranged mother’s house after her passing. As they sift through her estate, Anya begins acting more and more like Emmett’s mother – forcing him to question if she’s pushing him to confront his traumatic past or if she’s actually been possessed by his mother’s spirit. The cast also includes Chris Mulkey (Twin Peaks).
Kyle Gallner currently stars opposite Sosie Bacon in the surprise hit Smile, which spent two weeks atop the box office and is nearing a global tally of $150 million.

"A boy's best friend is his mother." Dark Sky Films has unveiled an official trailer for the indie horror film called Mother, May I?, made by filmmaker Laurence Vannicelli. This premiered recently a genre festival, and opens on VOD to watch this summer in July. When his fiancé, Anya, starts behaving like his recently deceased mother, Emmett is forced into a nightmarish game of therapy... or is it a possession? He then tries mushrooms to let go of his trauma from his past involving his mother, but it seems to make things worse. In this trippy horror film, actors Kyle Gallner and Holland Roden experience a strange, Oedipal nightmare that involves a dead mom, some magic mushrooms, and an unexpected transformation. The small indie cast also includes Michael Giannone and Chris Mulkey. This looks super creepy (I don't want to experience any of this) and surreal, with lots of strange...

Scott McCall and his wolfpack are back in "Teen Wolf: The Movie." The highly-anticipated film - helmed by the show's original creator, Jeff Davis - hit Paramount+ on Jan. 26 - nearly six years after MTV's "Teen Wolf" series aired its finale in September 2017.
The new movie sees so many of the show's original cast members returning to reprise their roles, including Tyler Posey as Scott, Crystal Reed as Allison Argent, Tyler Hoechlin as Derek Hale, Holland Roden as Lydia Martin, and Colton Haynes as Jackson Whittemore. And if that wasn't exciting enough, the film also brings back cast members like Shelley Hennig as Malia Tate and Dylan Sprayberry as Liam Dunbar.
The last time we saw the cast, some of them were dating each other or other celebrities. Since it's been so long since you've probably checked everybody's social media pages for updates on their personal lives, you might...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Teen Wolf: The Movie.] Teen Wolf: The Movie left off in a hopeful place for most of the characters, though one werewolf did make the ultimate sacrifice. Scott (Tyler Posey) and Lydia (Holland Roden) successfully brought Allison (Crystal Reed) back from the dead. The nogitsune and puppet-master Harris (Adam Fristoe) were defeated. Scott and Allison were back together and, after Derek’s (Tyler Hoechlin) death, took in his son Eli (Vince Mattis), who embraced being a werewolf. Creator Jeff Davis answers our burning questions after the movie and addresses if this will be the last time we see any sort of Teen Wolf. Was the plan always to reunite Scott and Allison once you knew Crystal would be returning? I wouldn’t say it was always the plan. I didn’t know quite where it was gonna end up in my head, but once I figured out Scott’s...

Paramount+ has spooked up two hits with debuts “Teen Wolf: The Movie” and “Wolf Pack,” both of which hail from MTV Entertainment Studios, creator Jeff Davis (who’s under a multi-year deal at the studio) and MGM.
The former — a film revival of the beloved 2011 young-adult supernatural series that reunites a majority of the cast, including stars Tyler Posey and Tyler Hoechlin — broke the streamer’s record for the most-watched original move in the first day of its debut.
The latter, which stars and is executive produced by Sarah Michelle Gellar, marked the platform’s most-viewed YA show since the “iCarly” reboot, making it the No. 2 YA series premiere overall in its first 24 hours.

Teen Wolf: The Movie is a movie directed by Russell Mulcahy starring Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed and Holland Roden.
This is a film produced by MTV especially oriented for teenagers and which features elements of recent successes and scenees from similar horror movies.
Enjoyable for its audiencde and intelligently “designed” (its production).
About the Movie
Films like Teen Wolf: The Movie, have their day. In mine we had the original Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox and I enjoyed it equally with all its obvious lackings. It works for its audience and knows how to please its viewers, having done so generation after generation in MTV and in its speciality MTV is a master with plots that are especially thought out for segments of people in their twenties and with just enough complexity to not stand apart.
By the way, it is better if you saw the series before watching...

TV often turns to tried-and-true genres to create an instant connection with viewers. But no one would expect teenage werewolves to occupy the same space as procedural dramas and workplace sitcoms. Yet, that seems to be the case with the new Paramount+ show, Wolf Pack. The series follows in the footsteps of MTV’s Teen Wolf series. But here’s how it’s different.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Teen Wolf: The Movie.] No, there’s no undoing that tragic ending for one of the main werewolves of Teen Wolf in the Paramount+ film. Teen Wolf: The Movie saw Scott (Tyler Posey), Derek (Tyler Hoechlin), Lydia (Holland Roden), a resurrected Allison (Crystal Reed), and their friends go up against the nogitsune and Oni, due to puppet-master Harris’ (Adam Fristoe) work, and in order to win, a sacrifice had to be made. In order to hold the Nogitsune still for hellhound Parrish (Ryan Kelley) to kill him, Derek sacrificed himself and was burned up as well. Scott and Allison took in his son, Eli (Vince Mattis). Creator Jeff Davis explains that decision. Talk about the decision to kill Derek. Why and why in the way that you did? Jeff Davis: Killing Derek wasn’t something that we came to lightly. It was a big decision, and I always feel...

TV cancellations are even more regular than a full moon these days, so there’s something to be said for Teen Wolf‘s almost animalistic tenacity. Hailing from the days when shows actually reached six seasons, MTV’s soft reboot of the ‘80s movie was canceled after a mammoth 100 episodes in 2017.
But like people always say, you can’t keep a good lycanthrope down, because six years later, Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) and his pack are back with the first of what could be many Teen Wolf movies.
In fact, judging by how Teen Wolf: The Movie ends, it looks like creator Jeff Davis is counting on it.
How Does Crystal Return?

When Paramount announced the release of a new show from Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis, most assumed Wolf Pack would be a spinoff of the popular MTV show. However, Wolf Pack‘s cast recently made it clear the upcoming show is completely original.
What is ‘Wolf Pack’ about?
Wolf Pack is based on a book series of the same name. The books tell the story of a couple who rescue a pack of young wolf cubs who end up turning into human babies. They follow the group of kids as they balance high school with their supernatural adventures.

What exactly happened was slowly revealed throughout the film. Lydia stopped using her banshee power because of something related to Stiles, Jackson (Colton Haynes) shared early on. Then, as the two were facing off with Harris (Adam Fristoe), the puppet master of the nogitsune, the whole story came out. As Harris said, Lydia’s heartbreak was a delicacy to the nogitsune, and he forced her to talk about why she left Stiles. Lydia had a dream of a crash, in which both had been through from the car. Stiles wasn’t moving or breathing, she said. When it kept happening, she couldn’t tell if it was just a dream or a premonition. As she saw it, “If I was never in ...

The “Teen Wolf” movie brought Scott McCall and his friends back to Beacon Hills, but one key person was missing from the action: Scott’s best friend, Stiles Stilinski.
The two-hour reunion film, which dropped Thursday on Paramount+, kept Stiles’ presence alive even though its portrayer, Dylan O’Brien, did not appear onscreen. The 31-year-old actor made it clear last year that he would not be reprising his fan-favourite character for the movie.

We may not be seeing Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) in Teen Wolf: The Movie, premiering January 26 on Paramount+, but as TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek reveals, he’s apparently had quite an impact on Lydia’s (Holland Roden) banshee power. In the clip, featuring all returning cast members from the original series, Scott (Tyler Posey), Lydia, and Argent (Jr Bourne) have gathered, and there is at least one person who doesn’t know they’re there: Melissa (Melissa Ponzio), Scott’s mom. And Scott and Argent both want to keep it that way. So what exactly are they up to? “We’ve got the earth where she died, the weapon that took her life. According to you, that’s steps 1 and 2,” Argent says to Lydia. “What is next?” She was hoping for help figuring that out, admitting, “to be honest, I’m a little out of practice with all of this.

This Teen Wolf: The Movie review contains no spoilers.
Riddle me this: Is a Teen Wolf still a Teen Wolf when he becomes a full-grown “Man Wolf”?
That’s essentially the premise of Teen Wolf‘s comeback movie which brings Tyler Posey’s Scott McCall back on our screens for the first time since 2017.
Now in his mid-thirties, our not-so-Teen Wolf is still the Alpha, but Beacon Hills is no longer the place it once was. Fifteen years or so have passed since everyone last walked off together dramatically on the long-running MTV series. Jumping ahead to 2026, Scott’s pack has now been scattered by the years and circumstance — as well as real-life issues offscreen too.
That’s right. A lot of your faves are back, including some faces you might not be expecting, but there are a couple of key players missing, and the film does suffer a bit for it.

Plot: A full moon rises in Beacon Hills, and with it, a terrifying evil emerges. The wolves are howling again, calling for the return of banshees, werecoyotes, hellhounds, kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a werewolf like Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), no longer a teenager yet still an alpha, can gather new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.

Walt Disney just dropped a slew of new release dates, most of which were of the “untitled” variety like “untitled Disney,” “untitled Pixar” and “untitled Disney Animation.” It is still nice to know that the studio intends to be releasing animated movies in theaters at least up until the end of 2026, but the one named title is “The Booygeyman.”
Penned by “Quiet Place” writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, along with “Black Swan” writer Mark Heyman, the Rob Savage-directed “The Boogeyman” concerns a teen girl and her little sister coping with the death of their mother and struggling to get their grieving father to notice a sadistic presence plaguing their home. It features “Bizaardvark”s Madison Hu along with Vivien Lyra Blair, “Yellowjackets” star Sophie Thatcher, David Dastmalchian who has starred in “The Suicide Squad,” “Ant-Man” and the recent CBS reboot of “MacGyver” as the villainous Murdoc.

Tyler Posey and girlfriend Phem just hit a big relationship milestone. The couple attended the "Teen Wolf: The Movie" premiere in Los Angeles on Jan. 18, marking their first time walking the red carpet together since they started dating two years ago. Posey, who's reprising his role as Scott McCall in the forthcoming film, looked dapper in a black velvet suit and striped button-down, while Phem subtly coordinated in a patterned jacket, lace crop top, and black pants. The two shared a few sweet kisses while posing for the cameras.

Streamers had been in the news a lot over 2022. Less for what they were providing their subscribers but more for what they weren’t providing. Finished movies were shelved forever, projects canceled outright, and shows that seemed a shoo-in to be renewed were canceled. Luckily for 2023, it looks like we’re still about to get a lot of great content sent directly to our homes. What streaming films should we be anticipating?
Teen Wolf: The Movie – Paramount+ January 26th
It’s finally come full circle. First, there was the 80s Teen Wolf movie. Then MTV took that idea and based a young adult TV series on it. Now, that MTV series is getting a reunion movie to premiere on Paramount+. As it was, it shall be. A new evil has emerged, and Scott must reunite with his old friends, as well as some new ones, to fight this new menace.

Guess who's back, back again? "Teen Wolf" is back, and you should definitely tell your friends because there is a lot to be excited about. The beloved MTV series is getting the movie treatment with "Teen Wolf: The Movie" debuting in January, and the first trailer gives us the full scope of what we can expect from this nostalgia-heavy supernatural reboot.
First off, what exactly brings us back to Beacon Hills fifteen years after the final season of "Teen Wolf"? It appears that the Oni — the neutral demon warriors from season 3 of the show — have returned to the northern California town, and no one knows why. Naturally, this brings our favorite alpha, Tyler Posey's Scott McCall, back into town, and he summons the majority of supernatural crew from the days of yore to reunite and fight.
