Austin, TX – The SXSW Conference and Festivals wrapped on March 19th, after 10 days of magic and Austin wackiness, showcasing film, TV, interactive, conferences, interviews and music. The Film & TV Fest named “Raging Grace” as the top Narrative Feature and “Grown” as top TV Pilot.
“Raging Grace” was written and directed by Paris Zarcilla, telling the story of a Filipina house cleaner and her young daughter, with the jury noting its “heady blend of horror, history, and midnight humor announcing the arrival of an exciting new filmmaking talent.” The TV Pilot “Grown” focuses on a teenage boy attempting to move forward after losing his father, and the jury said it was “a coming-of-age story told with heart and visually realized with polish and verve.”
The following is the list of top honorees …

Two days after ”Everything Everywhere All at Once“ won seven Oscars, including best picture, the SXSW Film Festival, where Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s movie launched last year, has announced its own awards. To be clear, “Eeaao” was a studio-backed opening night premiere (not one of the smaller movies launched in competition at the indie-focused fest), but you can still feel the excitement in Austin around the landmark Oscar win. After all, SXSW was the first festival to take Daniels seriously, awarding them top prize for their Battles music video (“My Machines”) in 2012.

We may have said goodbye to New Amsterdam, its doctors, and “how can I help?” on January 17, but perhaps some new content will make the loss a bit easier. Jocko Sims, who played Dr. Floyd Reynolds throughout its five-season run, sat down with TV Insider at The Television Critics Association 2023 Winter Press Tour to reflect on the show. Sims reveals he did take something with him from set to remember his time on the NBC medical drama: his scrub cap from the surgery scenes. “That is very special. When you see that, and you see Dr. Reynolds wearing that, you know it’s New Amsterdam. You know it’s Dr. Reynolds,” he explains. So where’s he keeping it? “Somewhere in a nice box, safe.” On a more personal, emotional note, he’s also taking the memories he now has with the cast and crew, who “are now my friends for life,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the New Amsterdam series finale “Right Place” and “How Can I Help.”] Dr. Max Goodwin’s (Ryan Eggold) mantra (“How can I help?”) will continue on for years to come at New Amsterdam, thanks to the new medical director we meet in the NBC drama’s series finale. A quick recap: Max leaves for a job in Geneva with the World Health Organization, and the hospital is in Dr. Elizabeth Wilder’s (Sandra Mae Frank) hands. Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) finds a new place and her sister joins her in an Na meeting. Dr. Iggy Frome (Tyler Labine) and Martin (Mike Doyle) remarry. When New Amsterdam checks out after five seasons on January 17, expect the heartfelt hospital drama to go gentle into that good night. “The finale has [only] one medical story,” says showrunner David Schulner, because the majority of the two hours are driven by the characters’ personal stories: “Everyone is looking to heal — to repair the core trauma that started their journeys in the pilot episode.” That means surgeon Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims) comes to terms with the idea of what it means to be a perfect family. ER doc Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) deals with the trauma of leaving her sister behind with their alcoholic mother. And psychiatrist Iggy Frome (Tyler Labine) is owning the feeling that he’s not worthy of the marriage he’s in. Ralph Bavaro/NBC Medical director Max Goodwin, meanwhile, must define his future with his ex-fiancée, doc Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman). According to Schulner, the...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for New Amsterdam Season 5 Episode 11 “Falling.”] Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) goes from “how can I help?” to “how can I avoid?” in the last New Amsterdam winter premiere. After learning his ex-fiancée Dr. Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) is back in New York, Max is struggling. Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims) laughs when he finds out, but Max doesn’t think it’s funny, especially given that the progress he’d been making with Dr. Elizabeth Wilder (Sandra Mae Frank) ground to a screeching halt the moment that he saw his ex on the TV. Max doesn’t know if he’s going to see her — she hasn’t even reached out — but Reynolds thinks he should at least be curious if she still has feelings for him or came to New York for a reason. But, as Max admits, he can’t open that door and fall back into something he worked ...
