There's something about the dark that gets people to open up.
The docs on Code Black Season 2 Episode 11 were no different. In the dark, Jesse found a way to win over Campbell, Mario found some confidence, and Amanda convinced Ethan to try something different.
While "Exodus" certainly pushed the boundaries on how many medical show tropes could be squeezed into one episode., the writers managed to avoid being too predictable. Some ground was retread, but overall, it was a solid offering.
In fact, the only part about about the blackout story line that bothered me was the blackout itself. The premise has been done before on ER and Grey's Anatomy and what felt like a dozen episodes of Mash. But those all had explainable reasons for the lights to go out.
It's simply beyond belief, even for TV, that a hospital would be without backup generators for months and be...

Oh, the evil Internet, full of evil hackers looking at the best way to steal your money or sell you to the highest bidder. It seems to be the popular tool for modern television series to create something that stands out. Does The Code: Series 2 stand out as something special though, or just another crime thriller with a technological edge?
When two Australians are killed by militia in West Papua, Internet journalist Ned (Dan Spielman) and his cyber hacking brother Jesse (Ashley Zuckerman) are called into action. Threatened with deportation by the Australian government they are forced to help in the hunt for Jan Roth (Anthony Lapaglia) whose underground website is being used to traffic a young boy.
For the first half of series two the focus is on finding the young boy that has been kidnapped, but there are other motives underneath this. Jan Roth is current fighting...

Last Week’S Review: ‘Preacher’ Builds Its Mysteries In a Low-Key Episode (By Comparison)
In The Beginning
You know the old trope of how when small Texas towns are dominated by a single business, that business lets its employees hunt down prostitutes with paintball guns in the dead of night? We open with that classic scenario, as the Quincannon men chase down and corner a girl named Lacey. She gives up, but Clive, the guy Tulip beat at cards last episode, shoots her anyway. She takes a step back and vanishes into a sinkhole. Just another typical night in Annville!
Tulip Does Cool Stuff
Despite the rather out-there beginning, this is a pretty sedate episode, but Tulip does get a chance to raise some hell. After Lacey’s dead body has to be pulled out of the hole by a crane, Odin Quincannon, ever the picture of tact, takes a...

No, that’s not Immortan Joe in the picture above – it’s jacked-as-hell Ethan Embry painting while being overtaken by satanic influence in his new thriller, The Devil’s Candy. He delivers a powerhouse performance as a father who unlocks an inner demon upon moving into a new home, but Embry’s latest film brings even more clout with the return of director Sean Byrne, who has been quiet since 2009’s The Loved Ones - and what a return it is.
The Devil’s Candy is all about seething, brooding tension, as Byrne builds a demonic story that’s begging to explode in a fiery fury of hellish horrors and heavy metal, but its restraint is even more impressive. The Devil’s Candy is one of those horror films that grips you by the throat and enjoys watching you squirm, dragging you down into a depths of Hell as Metallica riffs usher you in.

Part of our continuing partnership with the online film journal, cléo. Every month, cléo will be presenting a great film to watch on our video on demand platform. In conjunction, we'll be hosting an exclusive article by one of their contributors. This month Eleni Deacon writes on Calvin Thomas & Yonah Lewis' breakthrough feature debut Amy George, which is available to watch starting August 31st in the Us, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Italy—and will be playing in Turkey, Mexico, and Germany later in September.
In the early minutes of Amy George (2011), Jesse gets a challenge. "It's called the Fearless Project," his teacher says, "And what I want you to do is take a self-portrait without it being a literal photo of yourselves." This is a heavy task for a classroom of 13-year-olds: it demands self-conscious self-definition at age when most kids have only begun testing the waters of self-discovery.

You know you're in 2013 when…
…Pop's gone rustic
All music in 2013 started to sound a bit Mumfordian. Vampire Weekend beefed up their preppy indie with tin whistles. Avicii, the bumfluff Guetta, made a single with a bluegrass singer. And Take That's Gary Barleymow premiered his comeback single on The X Factor surrounded by beardy types tapping on crates. Behold, the advent of faux faux folk.
…Your nan asks you what twerking is
Why, it's the popular dance move that makes your bum jiggle like custard in a bin bag. Pop strumpet Miley Cyrus has done more for its profile this year than any other: she twerked her way to the top of the charts via a controversial bounce on Robin Thicke's insignificant non-dong at the MTV VMAs. By August, twerking was added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

If you haven’t watched the latest episode of Breaking Bad, then stop reading this, watch it, read our recap, and then return to this post. Ready? Okay, let’s dive in! Like most episodes of the AMC drama, “Ozymandias” is brimming with Easter Eggs and clever hints recalling past and future moments of the series. This week featured monumental events (Hank! Gomie! Flynn!) as well as these smaller, subtler beats. Here are ten nitpick-y tidbits from last night’s epic episode — many courtesy of our very own EW recap commenters.

In case you’ve been living in an underground meth lab for the last few years, let us remind you: the end of Breaking Bad is nigh. There are only four episodes left in the acclaimed AMC crime drama’s five-season run. Questions abound: Will high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) pay dearly for becoming a murdering meth lord? Or will he somehow dig a way out of the mess that he’s created? Will his ex-partner Jesse (Aaron Paul) and DEA brother-in-law Hank (Dean Norris) — or his advancing cancer — exact revenge on him? Will anyone order the tableside guacamole?...

We pick up not long after last week’s dramatic cliffhanger. Walt pulls up to his street and sees Jesse’s car parked in his driveway with the door open and his front door kicked in. With his .38 snubnosed revolver in his hand, Walt comes through his back hedge, cautiously enters the house, sees the gas can, hears the smush of gas in the carpet, and calls out for Jesse to no response. (I know this is a recap, not a review, but I have to mention just how fantastic the scoring is in this scene, as well as the rest of the episode.) After the opening credits, Walt checks the house methodically, only pausing as we look up from below the final room’s doorknob. Walt cautiously approaches it, turns it, and enters the room. We stay in the hall while he checks, but no one is there. Walt...

(Rns) Whither Walter White?
How the morality tale of a cancer-stricken chemistry teacher who transforms himself (first by desperation and then through sheer hubris) into a cold-blooded, Machiavellian drug kingpin will end is what legions of fans of AMC’s Emmy-winning “Breaking Bad” want to know.
But after the first episode of the series’ final season aired on Aug. 11, the answer to what happens to Walter White (Bryan Cranston) remains a mystery — at least for another seven weeks.
Since its debut in January 2008, “Breaking Bad” has taken its audience on a spiritual journey — following Walt’s soul on a slow, steady descent into a hell of his own creation.
“Fleeting moments of possible restoration for Walter occur throughout the series,” Blake Atwood writes in the new book “The Gospel According to Breaking Bad,” which was released as an e-book to coincide with the season premiere.

Welcome to the latest Breaking Bad Round Table.
Following a pulsating episode that put a bullet in Mike and introduced Walt as Heisenberg to his new business partners, our team of Matt Richenthal, Chris O'Hara, Dan Forcella and Lisa Palmer is here to go over "Say My Name," while also looking ahead to Sunday's summer finale.
Pull up a virtual chair and sound off on the topics below...
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: I just smiled throughout the entire opening. The concluding murder of Mike was clearly the most noteworthy and exceptionally well done, but I enjoyed every second of Walt doing his cocky Destiny's Child impression.
Chris: Walt shooting Mike because, for once, Walt had blood on his hands and no one else to blame. It was also a touching farewell to a tremendous character who could own a scene even when not speaking.

“Hazard Pay” was a prime reminder of the phenomenal writing and acting which has made Breaking Bad the best drama on TV today.
Mark Margolis (as Hector Salamanca) and Giancarlo Esposito (as Gus Fring) may no longer be on the show to add the tense juxtaposition to Walt’s (Bryan Cranston) Icarus climb, but their legacy still haunts him.
Perhaps in contemporary fiction, martial arts and video games, beating the boss means becoming the boss. It’s the logic Darth Vader used when he cut down Obi Wan. “The circle is now complete,” Vader proclaimed. “When I left you, I was but the learner; now – I – am the master.”
That thinking may work if you’re Darth Vader, Jedi master. However, as Mike (Jonathan Banks) reminded Walt, killing Jesse James doesn’t make him (Walt) Jesse James.

I love Before Sunset as well as the original Before Sunrise, but I'm wary of the idea of Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater teaming for one more film to complete the Jesse and Celine trilogy. I wrote a little about this back in November when Hawke came out and was talking about the possibility of a third film saying: "I don't know what we're going to do but I know the three of us have been talking a lot in the last six months... All three of us have been having similar feelings that we're ready to revisit those characters. There's nine years between the first two movies and, if we made the film next summer, it would be nine years again so we've really started thinking that would be a good thing to do. We're going to try write it this year." Well, it's next summer and...

On AMC's hit drama "Breaking Bad," Jesse (Aaron Paul) and Walter (Bryan Cranston) are the perfect poisonous pair. Walt needs someone to look down on, just as Jesse needs someone to look up to, but the Season 4 finale left more questions than answers for the pair.
Walter has consistently betrayed Jesse throughout the series, and the shocking end to Season 4 proved just that, as we found out that it was Walt who poisoned Brock (Ian Posada). Jesse may not know the truth yet, but how does actor Aaron Paul feel about Walter's betrayal?
"Shame on Walt," Paul told Vulture, while promoting his new film "Smashed" at Sundance. "Like, I hate Walt for what he’s done to Jesse. If only Jesse knew all the horrible things that he did, oh my God. I love that they’re back together, but it’s always been such a back-and-forth struggle, a love-hate relationship.

It’s the Breaking Bad Season 4 Finale, entitled “Face Off”. Yes, really. But can this episode possibly go down as the greatest filmed thing ever to be titled “Face/Off”??? Nicolas Cage says “I don’t think so, and also I can eat a peach for hours.” The Finale opens with Walt and Jesse at the hospital immediately following last week’s failed Gus-bombing attempt (trying to kill a major character in a non-Season Finale is an automatic recipe for disaster), with Walt pressuring Jesse to think of any surveillance-free location where they can possibly lure Gus to finish the job. Jesse’s like, “I don’t know, the yellow shirt factory?” They agree and lure Gus to the yellow shirt factory and blow him up then spend 50 minutes high-fiving Walt’s baby. Crazy finale! Nope – There’s only one location Jesse can think of, and it’ll involve striking...

Even though Gale’s body has long since gone cold on Breaking Bad, his death is still affecting characters and plot-lines on the series in a major way. Too often on a crime drama, which this series has definitely become in these last two seasons especially, the act of murder carries only consequences on the law enforcement side of things. Exploring all of the ways the taking of a life changes the norm in terms of interpersonal relationships and conflicts is one of the ways this series is looking to reinvent what you think you should expect from this type of show.
It can’t be said enough how much the core relationship of this show, that of Jesse and Walt, has changed after Jesse killed Gale. Even though the show has truly expanded to let so many other ancillary characters into the main plot of Walt’s Meth business,...

Sandy’s love for baby Louis is keeping her sane during this difficult time!
Jesse James‘ announcement Jan. 20 that he was engaged to Kat Von D shocked America, but ex-wife Sandra Bullock knew of the proposal before anyone else!
Sources close to Sandra, 46, tell PopEater.com that she and and Jesse, 41, regularly communicate and he told her in advance that his high-profile engagement was imminent.
“Sandra knew it was coming, and she was ready,” Sandra’s friend tells the site. “It may seem like only yesterday that Jesse and Sandra split, but for her, life has changed so much that it seems like ages ago.”
Sandra’s biggest life change has been caring for her one-year-old son Louis, who has helped her move past Jesse and accept he’s found new love with Kat, 28.

What happens when one of the team becomes part of a hostage situation? Can the crew come together to save one of their own….and for that matter give the episode good ratings.
I was once again disappointed in the way the writers are using Jesse (Coby Bell). Bell has some decent acting ability and Jesse's character should be utilized much more. I know the writers have spent 3 years building the main team of Michael, Fiona, and Sam, but I think it's time to bring Jesse in as more than a sidekick. Maybe the writers are keeping him out of bigger things because they want the reveal of Michael being the "burner" to Jesse to be a big deal. I do have to say Jesse really stood out this episode when he argued with the client for making a deal.

I do have to say Jesse really stood out this episode when he argued with the client for making a deal.
As for the episode, it was great. Fiona being kidnapped...

It’s finally and officially over: Just three months after Sandra Bullock learned of her now ex-husband Jesse James’s affairs, their divorce has been finalized as of June 24 in Austin, Tex.
The papers cite “discord or conflict of personalities” as the reason for Jesse James and Sandra Bullock’s divorce, but despite the traumatizing effects of Jesse’s infidelities, it seems that the pair has parted ways on civil terms. Jesse is even allegedly following Sandra to Austin so that she can continue to play a role in his children’s lives!
The divorce papers state that “there is no child of the marriage,” which means that Sandra has the sole right to finalize the adoption of her 5.5 month old son Louis Bardo all on her own. But, with regards to the children from Jesse’s first two marriages – Sunny, 6, Jesse Jr., 12, and Chandler, 15 — Sandra will still...

Jesse, about to pull the trigger.
Last week's "Half Measures" just might have been the finest hour in the shows three year run. This week's season finale, entitled "Full Measure," doubled up and blew it out of the water. Season two was a step up from season one, and now that season three has concluded, it's plain to see that it was a few steps up from season two.
As always, tense moments and plot twists permeate the show. Vince Gilligan created this well-oiled machine that is being driven by Bryan Cranston (Walt) and Aaron Paul (Jesse), two actors at the very top of their game. There are not enough good things to say about these two men, and Gilligan as well for writing and directing the episode. The scene at the beginning where Walt stands up to Gus and presents him with two options (one of which was to...

Jesse is getting rid of some of his prized possessions online! Is he looking to start over with a clean slate?
Jesse James is finally breaking his silence next week on Nightline about his multiple affairs during his marriage to Sandra Bullock, and it seems he has now found one more way to get some of the guilt he’s holding off his chest – by selling his personal belongings! RadarOnline reports that Jesse has taken to his E-Bay account to sell two vintage bicycles, motorcycle parts, and “items of the more bizarre kind like a West Coast Choppers bathroom sign with very distinct lettering (F‹k Off), La France gas mask, and even two mini coffins!” Why in the world do you own two mini coffins Jesse?!

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 As far as I'm concerned, little about the third season of Breaking Bad has mattered. That is, until last night's "Sunset." We spent five episodes settling back into the White-verse, shifting the pieces around and sharpening our axes, waiting for Breaking Bad to get back to doing what it does best.
And good lord, do they do it well.
By re-immersing Walter into the world of crime, all of the colors that make this show great are vibrant again. There's nail-biting suspense, great peripheral characters, strong performances and rich, dark humor all around. And while we say goodbye to the Rv and the show's past, the future looks all the brighter.
"Sunset" reminded me that one of the things I always appreciated about Joss Whedon's Buffyverse was the idea that you could take these one-dimensional concepts of monsters and demons and turn them into your average,...

She’s been devastated by her husband Jesse James’ multiple affairs, but Sandra Bullock is still willing to take care of his kids.
The “Proposal” actress is reportedly taking care of Sunny, Chandler, and Jesse Jr. while James is undergoing sex addiction rehab.
And according to a source, Sandra’s willingness to help Jesse’s kids could be a harbinger for future reconciliation. “It’s a positive sign about Sandra’s relationship with Jesse.”
However, Sandra is still scared of what Jesse may do now that she’s said she’s ending their marriage. “I think Sandra has been frightened to death ever since she told Jesse. Jesse feels he is the most hated man in the world — and he blames Sandra.”...

Jesse James headed to work on Saturday at West Coast Choppers with his safe and sound dog Cinnabun, and yesterday his daughter Sunny came, too. The weekend brought another set of stories about Jesse's alleged fling with Michelle McGee - video of her stripping has surfaced, as well as evidence Jesse may also have participated in a Nazi-themed photo shoot two years ago. Michelle even gave another interview about Jesse, saying, "He was a nice guy - most guys who do what he does have an attitude." Most of you want Sandra to take her time rather than feel pressure to respond, but there's been tons of support from fans and friends like Keanu Reeves. Another side effect of the situation is Jesse's ex wife is asking for more visitation rights in the ongoing custody battle over their daughter. View 10 Photos › To see more Jesse, just read more. A Grey's Anatomy rep confirms that Jesse Williams, whose character was introduced in the current sixth season, will be back for the following season (2010-11) as Dr. Jackson Avery.
“That is good news,” the star told TV Guide upon hearing the news. “I did not know. I mean I had fingers crossed. They said, ‘We feel great about you.’ It was everything but the word.”
Jesse may be surprised, or just very modest, we are certainly not. Since arriving as a Mercy West transplant and shaking things up, he's emerged as an intriguing character this year.
“I can’t pretend I didn’t notice the amount of time and energy they invested in the character,” admits Williams, who has already had some substantial story lines. “I’m totally excited!”
Jesse says he intentionally avoided discussing his potential future on the show with his colleagues who play the other three Mercy West newcomers – Robert Baker (Dr.

Our psychologist says Jesse's public apology is a good first step.
Dr. Michelle Golland: I must admit, I love Sandra Bullock. She is talented, smart and funny, and she chose the bad boy and made it look like a good, solid choice. It added to her superpower quality in my eyes. It is the classic story of the cheerleader dating the bad boy in high school. The bad boy never believes he can get the cheerleader, and the rebellious bad boy on campus often intrigues the cheerleader. I have strolled on the "wrong side of the tracks" and have dated many a bad boy, especially in my youth. (I must admit I was a cheerleader.) I chose differently, though: I chose a good guy who could be bad if required (at least in my eyes) -- not a bad boy who needs to learn to be good.
After five years of marriage,...

Concord, Nh - The Rad Girls prove that women can be out of control without beating each other senseless. The trio of Ramona Ca$h, Munchie and Darling Clementine are in the midst of their third season of mayhem on MavTV. How could I refuse a chance to talk women who figured out how to give themselves bikini waxes using a car bumper?
Ouch. The trio called the Party Favors hotline from various parts of the Southwest including the lonely highway from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. Munchie swore they were just in a convenience store that seemed a location from The House of a 1,000 Corpses. Please excuse me if I attribute a quote to the wrong member since the conversation moved fast and furious.

Sandra, you really thanked Jesse in your acceptance speech at the SAG Awards last night!
The red carpet was covered in hot Hollywood couples at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, but one of our favorites was Sandra Bullock, 45, and her motorcycle riding hubby Jesse James, 40. And it was a big night for both of them — not only did Sandra win for her role in The Blind Side, but Jesse got a very special shout-out from her during her acceptance speech: “To my husband, Jesse, who works so hard all day, and you get dressed up in monkey suits, and you sit at a table with people you don’t know,” she began. “And I leave you there and then you come back with, like, Morgan Freeman’s email. I don’t know how you do it. I love you so much, and you’re really hot.
