Pure intentions never come a long way when it comes to achieving stardom in Hollywood. John Wick star John Leguizamo seems to understand that but while the actor may hold a cynical view of the industry due to time spent behind the curtains, there exist some things (perhaps a movie role or odd jobs to pay oneʼs way through surviving as a struggling artist) that he imagines as simply being too awkward to be uttered in public.

Such a protective cushion frequently comes into use when the actor brings up his fellow co-stars in the industry and serves to spill some tea about their roles that some still view as divisive beyond reproach.

John Leguizamo, Patrick Swayze, and Wesley Snipes portrayed three drag queens in the film To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everthing! Julie Newmar. The road movie follows the three New York City drag queens as they embark on a journey to Los Angeles to compete in the Miss Drag Queen of America Pageant. While all three lead actors gave praiseworthy performances, Leguizamo found the late Swayze difficult to work with during the film.

Leguizamo revealed that he improvised many of his lines in the film, which didn’t sit well with the Road House star. He also added that he and Wesley Snipes got along so well during the film since they were people of color, but didn’t share the same camaraderie with Swayze.

It’s been 25 years since John Leguizamo, Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes starred in the drag queen comedy “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.”
The actors were lauded back in the day because it was considered courageous for cisgender straight men to play out and proud gay queens.
Leguizamo now says if the film were made today, casting would look a lot different.
“I hope we’ve evolved from that,” Leguizamo says during a Zoom interview from his home in New York’s Catskills for Thursday’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.” “Obviously it should be that any actor can play anything, but … it doesn’t really work that way. Like white people should be able to play Latin people and Latin people should be able to play white people, but it doesn’t really work that way. It’s usually white males...

For Marc Anthony, helping children in desperate need is more than a duty - it's personal. Speaking Tuesday at his Maestro Cares Foundation's second annual "Changing Lives, Building Dreams" Gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, Anthony became emotional while discussing the orphanage he helped build in the Dominican Republic. "This is very personal," he told People. "My kids -" he said, choking up and asking for "one moment" - "my kids in the Niños de Cristo orphanage, they're gonna eat, they're safe, they have their own beds, they have their own space. It comes down to dignity...

HBO will be debuting “The Latino List,” a new documentary featuring a series of “highly personal video portraits of Latinos who have richly contributed to the fabric of contemporary society.” The debut on September 28th honors Hispanic Heritage Month.
The film explores what it means to be a Latino in the United States in 2011.
Directing the film is Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, acclaimed photographer and director of the three editions of HBO’s “The Black List.” HBO says the film adds a “brand-new chapter to its oral-history book with this exclusive profile of 15 power players” as said to HuffPost Latino Voices.
