Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Hugh Jackman is set to star in Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie and I was not prepared for the synopsis. Let’s get right to it.
Based on Leonie Swann’s international bestseller, the film follows George Hardy (Jackman), “a shepherd who loves his sheep and raises them only for their wool. Every night, he reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand, never suspecting that not only can they understand, but they argue for hours afterwards about whodunnit. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The local cop Tim Derry, on the other hand, has never solved a serious crime in his life, so the sheep conclude they will have to solve it themselves, even if it means...

Andy Weir’s science fiction masterpiece, Project Hail Mary, which was released in 2021, is now being adapted for the big screens following the success of The Martian. With the talents of Ryan Gosling and Sandra Bullock attached, reports claim filming has already started. Weir’s trademark blend of suspense, and humor, further proves how perfect Gosling is for the project.

Deadline recently reported that the film, which is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is preparing for launch on March 20, 2026. There are currently no other big titles scheduled for that weekend. Amy Pascal, Gosling, Lord, Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor and Andy Weir are all on board as producers of the film. CinemaCon is in full swing. Studios are unveiling some new exclusive pictures and information at upcoming projects. We’ve gotten first looks at movies like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and trailers for Trap and The Joker: Folie à Deux. Some promotional materials have shown a look at Gladiator II and Wolverine’s new mask for Deadpool & Wolverine. Recently, Amazon MGM has revealed some new footage of the upcoming Christmas comedy Red One, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons.
Deadline reports on the ten minutes that Amazon has screened for the CinemaCon audience. First off, while this is a movie that has been set for Prime Video, the footage is said to be very theatrical and it is revealed that Red One will indeed be hitting theaters on November 15. Not much can be said by way of details as those who saw the footage are instructed to keep their lips sealed.

While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.
Let’s just say that Red One is a fire-breathing Christmas action movie that completely reinvents the holiday genre. There hasn’t been a mass appealing Christmas tentpole in six years, the last being Illumination/Universal’s The Grinch which made over a half billion worldwide. Jonathan Majors has lost another role in the wake of his recent assault conviction. The actor had been slated to star as Dennis Rodman in 48 Hours In Vegas, but multiple sources have heard that Jonathan Majors has been dropped from the movie.
48 Hours In Vegas takes audiences on “Rodman’s madcap adventure with his skittish assistant Gm and will detail a budding friendship that neither one of them ever thought was possible but will end up solving both of the problems.” The project was originally set up at Lionsgate, but sources have said that the studio has released it back to the producers. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood are producing for Lord Miller, with Ari Lubet, Will Allegra, and Dennis Rodman executive producing. Jordan VanDina (The Binge) penned the script.
In a statement when the project was announced in 2021, Lord and Miller said: “Dennis refused to follow the herd.

Jonathan Majors will no longer be playing Dennis Rodman in the tentatively titled feature 48 Hours in Vegas. In addition, Lionsgate is no longer involved with the project, Deadline has confirmed, which has been released to its producers, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Aditya Sood. If the project were to be shopped around again, we understand, it will be with another actor playing the power Chicago Bulls power forward.
The screenplay, written by Jordan VanDina, follows Rodman’s zany trip to Las Vegas in the midst of the 1998 NBA finals.
CNN first had the news.
Following the guilty verdict, Majors was also dropped by Marvel Studios; the actor had played the villainous Kang the Conqueror in Disney+ series Loki and in the movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The character was slated to appear in future MCU movies, including 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

It's not easy being an R-rated comedy in 2023. After enjoying some modest success with the horror-flavored "Cocaine Bear," Universal saw its "Dracula" spin-off "Renfield" flounder at the box office earlier this year. The studio's latest adult-oriented chucklefest, "Strays," didn't fare much better upon its theatrical release in August either. Opening to lukewarm responses, the raunchy dog-com has struggled to make a dent financially.
Another major factor working against "Strays" was timing. Since the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers has continued to dig its heels in rather than address the existential crisis currently faced by the striking actors' and writers' guilds, that means the "Strays" cast has been unable to promote the film. That includes comedic superstars like Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx, who lend their voices to the movie's misbehaving mutts and could've easily gotten more people to turn out for the film, had they been able to make the press rounds.

From Lassie and Rin Tin Tin to 101 Dalmatians, Old Yeller, My Dog Skip, Homeward Bound, A Dog’s Purpose and on and on, the canine genre has been a staple of Hollywood movies for decades. I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone got the idea to make a balls-out, foul-mouthed, R-rated subversion of it all, and finally its time has come with the irresistible Strays, a film definitely not designed as a family movie or for kids — though I would bet, despite the language and nonstop dick jokes, they would love it anyway.

Director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear (read our review Here, get a copy at This Link) wasn’t exactly a blockbuster – it earned $89 million at the worldwide box office on a budget in the range of 30 to 35 million – but it did get a lot of positive attention when it was released. They say a dog is a man’s best friend, but what if the man is a total dirtbag? It might be time for some sweet justice, doggy style!
Here’s Universal’s official synopsis for Strays:
When Reggie (Will Ferrell), a naïve, relentlessly optimistic Border Terrier, is abandoned on the mean city streets by his lowlife owner, Doug, Reggie is certain that his beloved owner would never leave him on purpose.
But once Reggie falls in with a fast-talking, foul-mouthed Boston Terrier named Bug (Oscar® winner Jamie Foxx), a stray who loves...

Director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear (read our review Here) already received a digital release a few weeks ago, but another digital release is coming up later this month – and this release is being called the Maximum Rampage Edition! The Maximum Rampage Edition will be available digitally on April 14th and will be reaching Blu-ray and DVD on April 18th. Physical media copies can be pre-ordered at This Link.
Cocaine Bear is based on true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985. As our own Kevin Fraser reported last year, the true story goes like this: “In 1985, convicted drug smuggler Andrew Thornton was on a smuggling run from Columbia and had dumped several packages full of cocaine before bailing from the plane himself. Unfortunately, he hit his head on the tail of the aircraft and wound up in a freefall to the ground where he was found dead in someone’s driveway.

The very premise and violent nature of the Elizabeth Banks-directed horror-comedy Cocaine Bear screams “maximum.” But it’s about to get much more unbearably over-the-top with a new Cocaine Bear Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital “Maximum Rampage Edition” home release.

It’s time to catch up with our man, Miles. In true Spider-man fashion, Morales is having a hell of a time trying to balance his personal life, including school and family, with his superhero-ing. Sony has just dropped the new trailer of the newest entry from Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, and Kemp Powers. This time around, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse is attempting to outdo any parallel multiverse story with even more Spider-People than you can imagine, and even placing the fate of all of them on Miles’ shoulders.
The plot synopsis from Sony Pictures reads,
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

Sony dropped the second trailer for its upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Wednesday night and it features a more detailed look at the “elite crew with all the best Spider-people.”
The nearly three-minute trailer begins with Miles Morales/Spider-Man’s encounter with the multiverse traversing The Spot. It also sees Gwen Stacy introducing Miles to a whole host of new Spider-people at a building, that gives off a Citadel of Ricks vibe.
We also get a prolonged look at Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 who challenges Miles’ sense of morality and ethics. And with the seemingly infinite number of Spider-people, the filmmakers couldn’t resist dropping in the Spider-Man pointing meme.
The sequel’s returning voice cast includes Shameik Moore as Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Stacy/Spider-Gwen, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Luna Lauren Velez as Rio Morales and Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis. Additionally,...

The scripted pilot based on Jessica Simpson’s bestselling memoir “Open Book” is not moving forward at Amazon Freevee, Variety has confirmed. Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s period comedy “Western” has also been scrapped, though both potential series are now being shopped elsewhere.
The pilot for “Open Book” was ordered by Amazon Freevee back in October, with Tom Kapinos set to write and executive produce and Adam Bernstein on board as a director and executive producer. Katelyn Tarver would play Sadie Sparrow, a young singer based on Simpson, while John Stamos was cast as her older songwriter, Butch. Over time, the two would develop a connection that went beyond music.
Simpson was set to executive produce the project, along with Patrick Moran for his Pkm Productions and Amazon Studios. Lauren Auslander and Lacy Lynch were also on board as executive producers.

A strong genre hook is almost always a win at the box office, so it’s no surprise that Universal’s Elizabeth Banks-directed horror comedy Cocaine Bear enjoyed a nice debut weekend.
Outpacing early projections in the days prior to release, the film snorted up $23 million domestically and $28.4 million worldwide in its debut this past weekend. This put the movie in the #2 spot for the weekend, not far behind Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The only catch? Cocaine Bear carries a production budget of around $30 million, so it’s going to need to do a bit more blow before it starts being profitable. But with strong word-of-mouth, it’s likely that the film will continue to make money in the coming weeks. Will it ultimately be enough to hit the point of profitability? We’ll keep you posted as numbers come in.

Marvel and Disney’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania may have stayed atop the domestic box office chart in its sophomore outing with $32.2 million, but the real superhero of the weekend was Universal’s high-concept genre pic Cocaine Bear.
Directed by Elizabeth Banks, Cocaine Bear opened to $23.1 million after stealing away younger adults — and particularly males — from the Ant-Man threequel. Overseas, it sniffed out $5.3 million for an early global total of $28.4 million.
Ant-Man 3 fell 69.7 percent in North America, the worst decline ever for a title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after eclipsing Black Widow‘s 67.8 percent drop (the latter pic had the disadvantage of opening during the pandemic, and was made available simultaneously in the home).
The Ant-Man threequel also suffered the worst second-weekend drop of any superhero film opening to $100 million or more. DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice previously sat in the hot seat at 69.1 percent.

Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is facing stormy times at the weekend box office, where it could tumble 71.6 percent to $30 million-plus in its sophomore outing.
If these projections are right, the superhero pic is in danger of suffering the worst second-weekend decline ever for a Hollywood superhero pic opening to $100 million or more at the domestic box office, and one of the of worst for any such movie.
No superhero films that are members of this club have fallen 70 percent or more; DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes the closest at 69.1 percent. Among Marvel Cinematic Universe titles, last year’s Thor: Love and Thunder saw the biggest decline, or 67.7 percent. And among any film starting off with $100 million or more, the final Harry Potter pic, released in 2011, tops the list of biggest second-weekend drops with a decline of 72 percent, according to Comscore.

“Cocaine Bear” roared its way to the top of the Thursday box office with $2 million in previews.
Universal’s comedy-thriller will play in 3,534 North American theaters starting Friday. It’s slated to open somewhere in the mid-teens, with the possibility of hitting $20 million in ticket sales this weekend. For a comparison, the Christmas action comedy “Violent Night” made $1.1 million in Thursday preview showings to kick off a $13 million opening weekend.
Directed by Elizabeth Banks, Jimmy Warden’s stranger-than-fiction screenplay tells the story of Cokey the Bear, a Black bear who in 1985 consumed a large amount of cocaine a drug runner had dropped into a Georgia forest. In real life, the bear died shortly thereafter, but in this wild retelling it goes on a murderous rampage while on the prowl for more blow.

The title says it all. Just like Snakes on a Plane was about just that, the new horror comedy Cocaine Bear is about a 500-pound bear on a jihad after coming upon a ton of cocaine dropped into rural Georgia on a drug run gone wrong. The bear ingests the coke, and soon you have a beast roaring out of control and devouring whatever human comes onto his path. It is all not to be taken seriously, but fortunately director Elizabeth Banks is smart enough to give audiences hungry for a Jaws in the wilderness some nice scares mixed in with the laughs plus a bit more bang for their buck than just a marketable title.

Universal Pictures is giving director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear a theatrical release tomorrow, February 24th (you can read some early reactions Here), and some movie-goers are already hoping for a follow-up that would be called Cocaine Shark. It remains to be seen is there’s going to be a sequel at all, let alone one that would go aquatic, but during a conversation with Variety screenwriter Jimmy Warden (who happens to be married to genre icon Samara Weaving) confirmed that he has ideas for multiple sequels.
When asked if he has a sequel in mind, Warden replied, “Yeah, for sure. Not just a sequel. Many sequels. Cocaine Bear in Space is where we would probably end.“
When the interviewer said they couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not, Warden continued: “No, I’m f*cking with you about Cocaine Bear Goes to Space. But for the sequels,...

“When it says Cocaine Bear on the cover, you’ve at least got to read the first page,” confirmed producer Phil Lord of getting the script for his and Chris Miller’s latest project. The Universal film, directed by Elizabeth Banks, follows, quite literally, a black bear that consumes a significant amount of cocaine that is dropped in a forest, launching a murderous rampage against cops, criminals, tourists and teens.
Written by Jimmy Warden, it was inspired by the true story of a bear that overdosed on cocaine dropped by drug smugglers in 1985, and yes, Cocaine Bear was always going to be the title.
“We were sure there was going to be pushback on it, but it turns out that Universal is cool,” Miller joked at the film’s Tuesday night L.A. premiere. “And we were careful, we didn’t announce the title right away. It was ‘Untitled Bear Comedy’ for a while,...

It is still early in 2023, but several movies have already left quite the impression on moviegoers, such as Blumhouse's killer doll flick "M3GAN" and M. Night Shyamalan's latest thriller "Knock at the Cabin." But perhaps the craziest movie of the year is hitting theaters soon: "Cocaine Bear."
Directed by Elizabeth Banks ("Pitch Perfect 2"), the film is actually loosely based on a true story of a bear that, as the title implies, ingested a ton of cocaine. What could possibly go wrong? The movie has an absolutely stacked A-list cast led by the likes of Keri Russell and Ray Liota, in one of his final performances. As for the specifics of it, the synopsis for the film reads as follows:
