★☆☆☆☆Just the kind of dross that constitutes a stunning indictment of the British film industry, Ben Cookson's Almost Married (2014) is a crushingly unconvincing sex comedy that may not surpass 2004's Sex Lives of the Potato Men in its grotesqueness, but certainly reminds you of it - which is bad enough. A film primarily about how hilarious it is to catch a sexually transmitted disease, but the only thing worse than sitting through Almost Married is finding out mid-way through you've contracted chlamydia just by process of visual osmosis. Kyle (Philip McGinley) is soon to be married, but on his stag do he's infected with an Std after a late night sojourn to a seedy brothel.

Steering away from the Working Title school of cosiness is a start, but this bawdy Std comedy isn't terribly funny either
To give Almost Married its credit, it's not afraid to offend, and for once we get a British comedy that's set miles from the cosy, middle-class world of the Working Title/Richard Curtis/Nick Hornby breed, where everyone is basically nice. These guys are not nice. The grubby premise is that a young man (Philip McGinley) apparently contracts an Std on his stag night from a prostitute and then has to contrive excuses not to shag his fiance (Emily Atack) or let her know of his infidelity until he gets the all-clear. The humour is bawdy and rude, but unfortunately not terribly funny either, unless you find homophobia, vaginal contact with chilli seeds or fat sex workers hilarious. The actors gurn away like they're auditioning for roles in a Carry On reboot,...

Having made a name for herself in hit television series The Inbetweeners, Emily Atack is now pursuing a career in cinema, in a film that’s somewhat similar to, well, The Inbetweeners. However where the ingenious comedy shines in it’s vulgarity, Ben Cookson’s debut feature falls flat. Simply because the protagonists, to be completely honest, are just a little too old to get away with it.
Atack plays Lydia, a beleaguered bride to be, readying herself to marry the calamitous Kyle (Philip McGinley). However when the latter was whisked away on a stag do in Newcastle by his best man Jarvis (Mark Stobbart), a disastrous trip to a brothel resulted in the groom catching a sexually transmitted disease. Ashamed of his adulterous actions, Kyle remains silent on the issue – though while he’s waiting for the infection to clear up, Lydia begins to get suspicious as to why...

SAG Awards 2014 winners: Lupita Nyong’o surprises, shoo-in Cate Blanchett doesn’t (photo: Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong’o in ’12 Years a Slave’) The 2014 SAG Awards ceremony was held at downtown Los Angeles’ Shrine Exposition Center earlier this evening, January 18. Presenters included Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Josh Holloway, Clark Gregg, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Mindy Kaling, and Pauley Perrette, in addition to about a couple of dozen nominees. Most of the winners — including those in the television categories — were the expected ones, e.g., Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Best Actor Oscar winner Michael Douglas (Wall Street, 1987) for his portrayal of Liberace in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra, Jared Leto for Jean-Marc Vallée’s Dallas Buyers Club, two-time Oscar winner Maggie Smith (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, 1969; California Suite, 1978) for Downton Abbey, and Best Actress Oscar winner Helen Mirren (The Queen, 2006) for Phil Spector. The award season is now in full swing. This morning, SAG-aftra announced the nominees for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Nominations and wins at these awards often add to one’s Oscar hopes, so it’s always interesting to see which projects are getting the most attention.
One neat personal note here is that, since I’ve been a card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild for 7 years, I get to cast my votes on all of these. Looking forward to that.

In "Game of Thrones," every character counts. It's not just queens like Daenerys Targaeryen or manipulators like Varys who can bring about great change, but any small squire, orphan or soldier. That's why it was exciting to see Sibel Kekilli and Ben Hawkey on the series' Season 3 Los Angeles premiere red carpet. The two actors teased what their characters are up to in the next 10 episodes and how they'll change going forward.
Kekilli's Shae is still in King's Landing with her lover, Tyrion Lannister, despite trying to get him to leave the Westeros capital with her at the end of Season 2. She says that puts their relationship in a very tricky situation.
"The end of this second season it shows that she loves him and their feelings are real, but that means it's a weakness for Tyrion and getting dangerous more and more for her and for Tyrion," Kekilli told Zap2it.

But it’s a 14-minute video, and if that is too long for you to watch – well, first of all, Game of Thrones may not be quite the show for you – then HBO has released this lovely synopsis, as well as the name of the Season 3 premiere episode and a brief synopsis of that.
If you’re worried that the episode synopsis is too spoilery for you, it comes near the end, so you can easily avoid it, and simply allow your eyes to swim over the sheer number of actors listed as returning and new to the series. Enjoy!

If you’ve been watching USA’s Political Animals then you might see why the folks over at HBO’s Game of Thrones thought Ciarán Hinds would nicely as Mance Rayder, the “King Beyond the Wall” who presides over the Free Folk north of the Wall. In Animals, Hinds plays a Bill Clinton-George Bush hybrid womanizer who miraculously spent two terms as president despite his hard-living lifestyle and lack of common sense. But Hinds is not a stranger to leadership roles nor HBO. Fans of Rome may remember him as Gaius Julius Caesar and he’s shown up recently in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, John Carter, and The Debt. EW broke the news earlier today. If you’re not caught up with GoT, then beware of spoilers below.

The epic Hall H was the site of the epic Game of Thrones panel on the Friday of Comic-Con 2012. On the panel were Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), and Richard Madden (Robb Stark). Author George R. R. Martin served as moderator, and he did an admirable job with his questions for the cast and for executive producer Carolyn Strauss who was also on the panel. Kit Harington (Jon Snow) had been expected on the panel but was injured recently (don’t worry, it’s not supposed to affect his role in Season 3).
The panel began with Martin introducing this Season 2 recap featurette, followed by a new cast featurette:
Featurette: Game of Thrones Season 2 Recap (Comic-Con)
Featurette: Game of Thrones Season 3 – New Cast Members

Game Of Thrones made a big splash at Comic-Con by introducing 14 new cast members that are to be added for the third season of the HBO fantasy drama. It includes a few notable wildlings, like Tormund Giantsbane, “Blackfish” and Edmure Tully, the all important Reed children and a couple senior members of the Brotherhood Without Banners. The names and faces will look familiar to many, and a video introduction that appeared at the Con will get you a better idea as to who is joining Game Of Thrones next spring, which is embedded below the list of casting additions.
Diana Rigg (TV’s The Avengers) will play Olenna Tyrell, “The Queen of Thorns.” Mackenzie Crook (the British Office, Pirates Of The Caribbean): wildling raider Orell. Clive Russell (Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows): Bryndon “Blackfish” Tully, Catelyn Stark’s Uncle. Nathalie Emannuel (Hollyoakes, Misfits): Missandei the child slave.

Watch the new video from Comic-Con, introducing all of Westeros' new players! HBO’s Game of Thrones is currently one of the biggest and best shows on TV. Not only is it done on an epic scale, but it also features a consistently high level of quality in its storytelling, so it’s no surprise that the show’s panel drew a massive audience at Comic-Con earlier today.

When "Game of Thrones" returns for its third season next spring, at least 14 new castmembers will join the series, HBO announced Friday at Comic-Con.
"I'm going to have to start killing off some of these characters to make room for the new ones," author George R.R. Martin joked at the panel.
Dame Diana Rigg in one of the series' most colorful roles, Lady Olenna Tyrell, known as "The Queen of Thorns" for her acid tongue and sharp wit. (Game on, Maggie Smith! If anyone could take down "Downton Abbey's" Dowager Countess, it's Lady Tyrell.)

HBO's Game of Thrones revealed its Season 3 premiere date and at least 13 additional cast members at Comic-Con this afternoon. The acclaimed, epic drama will return March 31, 2013.
A long time to wait, but it should be worth it, especially since network announced that Diana Rigg is joining the Game of Thrones cast as Lady Oleanna Tyrell, a.k.a. the Queen of Thorns.
Rigg will be joined by these 13 additional new actors next spring:
Clive Russell (Bryndon “The Blackfish” Tully) Kerry Ingram (Shireen Baratheon) Tara Fitzgerald (Selyse Baratheon) Paul Kaye (Thoros of Myr) Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed) Ellie Kendirck (Meera Reed) Richard Dormer (Beric Dondarrion) Nathalie Emannuel (Missandei) Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully) Anton Lesser (Qyburn) Philip McGinley (Anguy) Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane) Mackenzie Crook (Orell)
Filming for Game of Thrones Season 3 will take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Croatia and Iceland later this year. Here's a video introducing some of the...

Casting rumors about the third season of "Game of Thrones" have been swirling for weeks, and HBO finally put fans out of their speculation misery at Comic-Con by confirming the identities of more than a dozen actors who'll be joining the series in Season 3.
Diana Rigg of the classic British series "The Avengers" joins "Game of Thrones" as Lady Olenna Tyrell, "The Queen of Thorns." She is the grandmother of the aristocrats Loras and Margaery Tyrell and the matriarch of the powerful Tyrell clan. (Nerds may already be aware that Rigg and her daughter are appearing in the upcoming season of "Doctor Who.")
Mackenzie Crook, best known for his roles on the U.K. version of "The Office" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," will play the wildling raider Orell, who, according to HBO, "is a 'warg' or 'skinchanger,' with the ability to enter the mind of an animal and control its actions.

I mean, no human on the entire planet of Earth is better than Peter Dinklage, but it's slightly amusing to see other actors try and share the Game of Thrones screen with him. At San Diego's Comic-Con, it was announced that more than a dozen new cast members will join HBO's epic fantasy series for its upcoming third season. Among them are stars from Pirates of The Caribbean and The Office (UK), and you can grab an eyeful of the new characters and their descriptions via the video below and Huffington Post:

- Mackenize Crook will play Orell, who is described as "a 'warg' or 'skinchanger,' with the ability to enter the mind of an animal and control its actions."

"Game of Thrones" might not have had any new footage to show at San Diego Comic-Con this year, but they did come with two massive announcements. Season three introduces many, many new characters, and showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff came with an (almost) entire listing of the new cast members, as well as the third season release date.
The quick news first: "Game of Thrones" returns to HBO on March 31, 2013. That's pretty much in keeping with the previous two seasons, so there's not much of a surprise there. Still, it's nice to mark a date on the calendar and start our countdowns early.
Now what we've all been waiting for: the casting. We've been dying to know who will be playing new characters like Jojen and Meera, Beric Dondarrion and Brydon Tully, and now we have found out. Read on after the jump to find out who almost all...

Coronation Street actor Philip McGinley has finished filming with the soap, Digital Spy can confirm. The 27-year-old, who has played Connor cousin Tom Kerrigan since February 2008, shot his final scenes with the Manchester-based show last week, before attending his leaving party on Friday. It is understood that producers decided to write Tom out of the serial drama as the character had 'come to the end of his line' and 'run his course'. McGinley hinted that he may return to theatre, writing on his Twitter page in the early hours of this morning: "Trying to learn a bit of Shakespeare, it's a bit different (more)...
