Steve Harley, singer for the British glam rock act Cockney Rebel and their 1975 hit “Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me),” has died at the age of 73.
Harley’s family confirmed his death in Suffolk, England Sunday in a statement (via The Guardian), “We are devastated to announce that our wonderful husband and father has passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side. The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” wasn’t as big in the United Kingdom as a 1970s cover of the tune. The cover was a top 10 single. The singer behind the cover revealed his thoughts on the song and other classics from The Beatles.
The Beatles‘ “Here Comes the Sun” is a famous song but it wasn’t one of the Fab Four’s biggest hits. Subsequently, a cover of the track became a big hit in the United Kingdom. The singer behind the cover seemed to prefer Bob Dylan to The Beatles.
The Beatles’ ‘Here Comes the Sun’ was barely a hit single in the United Kingdom
The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” was a modest hit in the U.K. The Official Charts Company reports the tune peaked at No. 58 there and stayed on the chart for four weeks. The tune’s parent album was 1969’s Abbey Road.

It's Halloween week on Strictly Come Dancing, with scary make-up and spooky props aplenty.
But who brought a bit of magic to the dance floor, and who had a monstrous night? Find out with our round-up of the scores and comments from judges Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli - and you can relive every dance below:
1. Katie Derham & Anton Du Beke dancing the paso doble to 'Phantom of the Opera' by Steve Harley and Sarah Brightman: 4+6+6+5=21
Len: "The problem is you're like an English rose and the paso is a cactus, sharp aggressive and spiky. It doesn't really suit your personality. I got the willies at one time when I thought you would use the wrong foot. It wasn't great, Kate - I wish it was."
Darcey: "You look the part – absolutely stunning. To help strengthen your performance use those beautiful eyes.

Top Gear fans have helped send Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel up the iTunes downloads chart.
On last night's (January 25) episode, Jeremy Clarkson urged fans to download the classic track 'Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)'.
The tongue-in-cheek 'Make Me Smile Foundation' was launched by Clarkson after Harley was caught speeding on the M25 in an area where the limit had been temporarily reduced to 40mph. He was fined £1,000 for the offence.
Clarkson said: "He's [making] a meagre living out of, let's be honest, one hit single. Everybody loves that song - you can't trust someone who doesn't like that song."
Richard Hammond added: "Imagine if everybody did it - he would wake up tomorrow and think, 'I'm number one, where did that come from?' It would cheer him up."
The song had reached as high as number 25 on iTunes on Monday (January 26).

Headlining the most successful entertainment of all time, The Phantom Of The Opera, Michael Crawford was actually not the first name the creative team considered for the gothic musical undertaking during its creation in the mid-1980s, believe it or not. Steve Harley famously recorded the original single of the title song with composer Lord Andrew Lloyd Webbers muse Sarah Brightman and subsequently starred in the grandiose Ken Russell fever dream music video. While the public and critics alike assumed Harleys bid for the lead role in the gestating show was all but guaranteed after the video debut, it was not meant to be. Master director Hal Prince had his sights set on a British stage and screen star who had made a name with American audiences decades before in the troubled film versions of two Broadway hits - A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and Hello,...
