How many points can you rack up? We recommend watching this fantastic four minute short film called Trick Meter, from Weta VFX artist and filmmaker Simeon Duncombe out of New Zealand. The very creative, very fun short follows a skateboarder who gets sucked into some funky game where he must do tricks and dodge obstacles to survive. It has some great FX setup behind it, and a fresh vibe to it. The short was featured on Short of the Week, where they wrote that "Duncombe manages to succeed where so many special effects film fail by crafting a dynamic, fantastic world dominated by a ticking clock." Fire it up below. Original description from Vimeo: "Hidden in the darkest back streets of major cities, you may find an urban phenomena - the Trick Meter. Skate by one late at night and you could find yourself locked into a do or die trick session.

Someone keep producer Travis Stevens - now sporting a surgically enhanced wrist thanks to a recent skateboarding mishap - far, far away from New Zealand writer-director Simeon Duncombe's Trick Meter. Because we like Travis and we'd like to keep him intact.Duncombe's first directorial effort, Trick Meter takes a clever concept and works it to near perfection, carrying a narrative entirely without dialogue which - to me - is always a sign that a director's got their shit together in a pretty significant way.Hidden in the darkest back streets of major cities, you may find an urban phenomena - the Trick Meter. Skate by one late at night and you could find yourself locked into a do or die trick session.Check out the short below!...

Nominations for the 41st Annual Annie Awards were announced and "Frozen" and "Monsters University" led the pack with 10 nominations each. "Despicable Me 2" and "The Croods" followed closely with 9 noms each.
I am rooting for "Frozen" to win! It's a return to form to what Disney does best -- affecting fairy tale with memorable musical numbers. "Monsters University," on the other hand, was bland. The film bored me on second viewing.
Steven Spielberg will receive the Winsor McCay Award for career achievement at the awards ceremony happening on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. Patrick Warburton will serve as host.
