The 100-Acre-Wood will once again be drenched in blood in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II, a sequel to last year’s viral hit that arrives in theaters beginning Tonight.
From Fathom Events, the slasher sequel will be playing in theaters nationwide on March 26, March 27 and March 28, so make sure you get out there and see it while you can.
Of course, anyone who has seen the not-so-good first movie may not be all that eager to get out and support another one of these, but the early reviews for Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II are surprisingly strong out of the gate. Granted, only six critics have logged their reviews over on Rotten Tomatoes at this time, but the film is currently 100% Fresh!
Rotten Pooh: For the sake of comparison, last year’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has a 3% score on Rotten Tomatoes with 62 reviews logged!

This article contains spoilers for "Avatar: The Way of Water."
It took 13 years, a budget rivaling the Gdp of a small nation, and no shortage of capital-d discourse along the way, but one of the greatest blockbuster filmmakers of all time has finally debuted his long-awaited sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time. Yes, "Avatar: The Way of Water" is currently riding a tidal wave of hype into theaters -- look no further than /Film's review by Chris Evangelista -- to once again plunge audiences headfirst into the paradise known as Pandora. While it remains to be seen if this wildly expensive and extraordinarily risky gambit will pay off, one thing's certain: It's still James Cameron's world, folks, and we're all just living in it.
Now that audiences have begun to experience the highly-anticipated film for themselves, the biggest debate will likely unfold over whether it has outdone its predecessor or not.

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” premiered August 18 on Disney+ and instantly impressed critics to a 92 freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The MCU series follows Jennifer Walters, an attorney specializing in superhuman-oriented legal cases, who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk (and cousin of Bruce Banner). The cast is equally as exciting as the premise and includes Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany making her MCU debut in the title role with supporting players Tim Roth, Mark Ruffalo, Jameela Jamil and Charlie Cox rounding out the ensemble. But what exactly do critics think of this nine-episode story?

Wednesday night was the premiere of “The Gray Man,” the Russo Brothers’ ambitious action thriller that, with a budget of 200 million, is the most expensive movie Netflix has ever made. On Thursday, the review embargo for the film lifted, bringing with it a generally underwhelmed response from critics.
The film stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans as Court Gentry and Lloyd Hansen. Gentry is on the run from Hansen after coming into possession of top-secret CIA information, and Hansen is unforgiving in his efforts to chase Gentry down. Ana de Armas also stars as Dani Miranda, alongside Regé-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Julia Butters, Dhanush, Alfre Woodard and Billy Bob Thornton.
Overall, most critics agree that “The Gray Man” is an over-the-top attempt by Netflix to capture the magic of blockbuster thrillers like the 007 movies. Gosling, Evans, de Armas and their co-stars show their talents, but the majority of reviews...

Rob Cohen directed the first “Fast and the Furious” and “xXx” films, and hopes his perilous-weather thriller “The Hurricane Heist” leaves action fans clamoring for sequels. Distributed by Entertainment Studios and set in Alabama, the story follows a meteorologist (Toby Kebbell) intent on rescuing his brother (Ryan Kwanten) from a incoming superstorm, similar to the one that killed their father when they were kids. Yet a band of thieves eagerly awaits the squall, a diversion so they can lift $600 million from a U.S. mint and a treasury agent (Maggie Grace).
Critics genuinely complimented the “gleefully stupid” premise and building “idiocy,” along with the self-awareness screenwriters Jeff Dixon and Scott Windhauser supplied their characters. Also cited were editing gaffes, the actors’ wretched accents, and the too-low camp factor.

Special Mention: Shock Corridor
Written and directed by Samuel Fuller
USA, 1963
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Shock Corridor stars Peter Breck as Johnny Barrett, an ambitious reporter who wants to expose a killer hiding out at the local insane asylum. In order to solve the case, he must pretend to be insane so they have him committed. Once in the asylum, Barrett sets to work, interrogating the other patients and keeping a close eye on the staff. But it’s difficult to remain a sane man living in an insane place, and the closer Barrett gets to the truth, the closer he gets to insanity.
Shock Corridor is best described as an anti-establishment drama that at times is surprisingly quite funny despite the dark material. The film deals with some timely issues of the era, specifically the atom bomb, anti-communism, and racism. It features everything from a raving female love-crazed nympho ward,...

If there was ever a perfect setting for a horror movie, it would be the abandoned Danvers State Mental Hospital. Built in 1878 on an isolated site in rural Massachusetts, it was a multi-acre, self-contained psychiatric hospital rumoured to have been the birthplace of the pre-frontal lobotomy. The hospital was the setting for the 2001 horror film Session 9, where an asbestos clean-up crew discover a series of nine tapes, which have recorded a patient with multiple personalities, all of which are innocent, except for number nine. Nothing says Comic-Con like an orgy of violence, which is perhaps why Lionsgate debuted the upcoming action film "Dredd" at the annual event at midnight on Thursday.
"You can say many things about this movie, but tame is not a word you’ll see associated with it," wrote Quint (real name: Eric Vespe) in his review for Ain't It Cool News. "In terms of gore, they swing for the fences. [...] If you’ve ever wanted to see what a bullet going through a dude’s jaw looked like in slow motion, then by God 'Dredd's' the movie for you!"
Based on the popular '80s comic from 2000 Ad, "Dredd" focuses on the title law enforcer (played by Karl Urban, who apparently never takes off Dredd's famed helmet) and his new partner (Olivia Thirlby) as they try to stop a drug kingpin (Lena Headey) in a dystopian future where police officers are judge,...

Luke Y. Thompson is contributing to Deadline’s Comic-Con coverage. This year’s event runs July 12-15. Ever since 20th Century Fox showed the naked wrestling scene from Borat a few years ago at Comic-Con, the convention has been a lot stricter about R-rated clips, and companies like The Weinstein Co. and Lionsgate have scheduled off-site events for edgier genre fare such as Machete and the later Saw sequels. But when an icon of pop culture asks for a panel at the biggest pop-culture convention, well, you give Quentin Tarantino a Saturday slot in Hall H to show Django Unchained clips. Cast members who’ll attend were not announced in the Saturday lineup posted today. That may mean they probably don’t know if Jamie Foxx’s schedule will allow it for sure (last time I remember him coming down was for Stealth. Remember that one?). Similarly, the special guests...

Luke Y. Thompson is contributing to Deadline’s Comic-Con coverage. Jodie Foster at Comic-Con? Absolutely believe it. She and Matt Damon will be part of a panel that day for Elysium, Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to District 9, which launched its initial ad campaign at Comic-Con (“this restroom is for humans only”) a year before actually showing footage there that really hyped things up. This is the biggest unknown quantity announced so far, the “we didn’t even know to be excited about it yet” item that could end up being the big-buzz item a la 300 (or, ahem, Sucker Punch). This news emerged today as Comic-Con continued its day-by-day rollout of what’s in store this year, releasing its schedule for Friday July 13. Elysium is surrounded on the Sony panel by Total Recall (they gave that a big push last year, and movies about to open seem less interesting to Con-goers) and Looper,...

I wanted to give a big Thanks! to Nerdist News for the mention of my comic Supernovas today. Nerdist made a big splash at WonderCon when co-founder Chris Hardwick (formerly of MTV and G4) made the announcement of the new shows that would be premiering this week on their YouTube Channel, including shows by Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News and Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex at the L.A. Times. Wednesdays are Comic Book Day at Nerdist and today they launched the debut episode of their Comic Book Club show, featuring guests Judah Friedlander and Joe Kelly. Subscribe to their daily newsletter here. Many thanks to editors/contributors Dan Casey and Luke Y. Thompson.
I recently cut together a trailer for Supernovas. We're starting to get some genuine Hollywood interest in the property, possibly as a television series, so I figured I'd give them something...

Let's face it. Just because we walk upright and possess the power of reason (well at least some of us do) doesn't mean that we're any better than most of the creatures in our animal kingdom. The only hitch? Animals only kill when they have to, but humans? We're just looking for a reason.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 will be a huge box office success regardless of what Bella, Edward, Jacob and director Bill Condon do. So does it matter that the reviews are largely negative?
"There's more to like than you might expect."
— Luke Y. Thompson, E! Online
"Sexy, silly, scary and stupid, the movie's tonal balancing act amounts to an Evil Dead for tween romantics."
— Matt Patches, Hollywood.com
"To my taste, savvy Hollywood veteran Bill Condon debuts as director of the two-part Twilight conclusion in satisfying fashion, delivering a voluptuous if often inert spectacle that splits the difference between high camp and decadent romance."
— Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com
"The Twilight Saga hasn't matured along with its heroine. In fact, the latest movie regresses a bit, delivering more filler, less feeling and crummier CGI than last year's Eclipse."
— Mark Jenkins, Washington Post

Australia may not have an overabundance of horror films but they’ve managed to produce some quality genre pictures. The recent success of the acclaimed documentary Not Quite Hollywood has shed light on a much overlooked aspect of Aussie genre filmmaking, from lowbrow slashers to twisted thrillers and gross-out horror comedies. Back in the 70′s a number of prominent filmmakers began to develop a film movement that would eventually see the successes of such films as Mad Max and The Last Wave. It was during this time that Australian cinema as a whole experienced resurgence due to increased governmental funding and eventually gave way to what international film critics termed the “Australian New Wave” or the “Golden Age of Australian cinema”.
New Zealand hasn’t produced many horror films over the years, but those it has given birth to are remarkably strong entries. In fact one of the biggest filmmakers...

Expert geeks and contributing cynics Luke Y. Thompson & Gary Hodges are covering Comic-Con for Deadline. The following is a list of panels that they consider to be of most likely interest to Deadline readers. As there are not enough hours in the day, a panel's inclusion on this list does not necessarily mean they will report on it in more detail later. This covers official convention events only; numerous other things, like the Cowboys and Aliens premiere, will be happening but are not necessarily open to all badgeholders. Opinions and commentary are those of Luke or Gary alone, and do not necessarily represent those of anyone else at Deadline. (Remember, Nikki doesn't do geek...) All panels are subject to change, especially if somebody gets stabbed in the eye again this year: Sunday July 24 Sunday is traditionally a slow day at the Con, with very little movie stuff. With Screamfest La celebrating its 11th anniversary this fall (the venerated Los Angeles film festival spearheaded by Rachel Belofsky runs October 14-23 in Hollywood, CA), the fest hosted another of its monthly mixers this past Thursday, March 12, and we were there to snap a few photos and chat with the filmmakers in attendance.
On hand for the event (which took place at Hollywood Boulevard’s tequila bar Te’Kila) were FX artist and reality TV star Frank Ippolito (who teased that his short flick ‘Night of the Little Dead’ is slated for a fest debut in the near future), Kiss Before the Slaughter director John Elfers, Hell’s Belles filmmaker Christian Ackerman, producer Drina Durazo and actor Luke Thompson.
Also in attendance were Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 actress Allison Kyler and that flick’s producer Chang Tseng and director (and Almost Human Efx guru) Robert Hall, the latter of whom...

"...may not be the best-made movie in Wes Craven's series, but it is the most entertaining."
— Luke Y. Thompson, E! Online
"...finds a way to live up to its gory past while it carves out new terrors in new ways (new media helps). The kills themselves are both bountiful and bloody, the movie references are brilliant and bloody, the funny is very frequent and very frequently bloody, but to say any more would ruin the boo."
— Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times
"...somewhat entertaining, occasionally scary and only sporadically migraine-inducing in its level of Jesuitical, self-referential cleverness..."
— Andrew O'Hehir, Salon
"The modern homage it pays to its predecessors turns out to be the best thing about the film. Unfortunately, that accounts for only the first 20 minutes."
— Claudia Puig, USA Today

Critical consensus on the Arthur remake is that it's Ok, and Russell Brand is not leading man material.
"This Arthur is not as laugh-out-loud funny as the earlier one... But the dialogue is well-written — witty and quick and not clunky."
— Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
"...blobby and a bit of a mess but offers a fair number of laughs..."
— Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
"There are moments here that are genuinely funnier than the 1981 Dudley Moore original, but the movie as a whole is less cohesive and overly melodramatic."
— Luke Y. Thompson, E! Online
"One's enjoyment of Arthur — and its box office chances — may depend on a new audience having little if any knowledge of the earlier work. As a Russell Brand Show, fans and followers may enjoy his extravagant mugging and nuttiness. Those with any memory of 1981's Arthur will be severely disappointed."
— Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter
"...insipid when it should be infectious.

Drive Angry 3D was not screened for critics and it surprises by being very well-reviewed.
"...thanks to his propensity toward massive amounts of sex and violence, because of his desire to show as much T&A and blood-soaked gore as possible, [director] Lussier lifts this otherwise bizarre action thriller to epic sleazoid proportions."
— Bill Gibron, filmcritic.com
"...in its 3-D version makes a loud, incoherent but oddly compelling case for the enhancing effects of stereoscopic projection on certain treasured objects of the cinematic gaze, like classic Detroit muscle cars, women’s breasts and Nicolas Cage."
— A. O. Scott, New York Times
"...plenty watchable..."
— Rob Nelson, Variety
"...a competent gimmick flick that's briefly fun but quickly evaporates from memory."
— Luke Y. Thompson, E! Online

To our knowledge there has not been a clamoring for Big Momma 3 since Big Momma's House 2 exited theaters five years ago. Nevertheless, Hollywood has delivered it to us, without advance screening for critics.
"...kind of a drag when it resorts to frantic slapstick and tired action-comedy tropes, but modestly engaging during stretches that suggest the project would have worked better as an exuberant musical."

Given the first reviews of Sanctum, the pic is doing a bit of damage to the James Cameron brand.
"A B movie in the best sense, Sanctum — executive produced by James Cameron — is a lean, clear-headed 3-D thriller that knows exactly where it's headed from the moment its adrenaline junkie explorers dive into the world's biggest cave in Papua New Guinea."
— Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
"...a subterranean survival epic that expertly tightens the screws even as one wishes it would keep a tighter mouth-clamp on its increasingly whiny characters."
— Justin Chang, Variety
"Here and there an image of spectral beauty, assisted by the 3-D technology, floats into view and captures our imagination. But the script, which really should've been called Sanctimonium, has a serious case of the bends."
— Brian Lowry, Variety
"You can't just play mad libs with the terms 'James Cameron,' 'underwater,' and '3-D,' and expect automatic Titanic.

For our Holiday Movie Guide here's what we said about The Warrior's Way: "Promoted as 'from the producers of Lord of the Rings' and 'starring international superstar Jang Dong-gun' (who we've never heard of before), this pic takes the award for most interesting mash-up, blending western and samurai with action and romance. It will likely be either brilliant or unwatchable (with the exception of Kate Bosworth)." It was not screened for critics. Here's what they said on Friday afternoon.
"...a visually inspired multi-genre amalgamation, a borderline-surreal folly that suggests a martial-arts action-adventure co-directed by Sergio Leone and Federico Fellini."
— Joe Leydon, Variety
"One ticket buys you cowboys, samurais, gangsters, ninjas, spaghetti Westerns, Hong Kong martial artists, knife throwers and even Fellini-esque circus performers. But like kimchi pasta, some things aren't meant to mix."

"One ticket buys you cowboys, samurais, gangsters, ninjas, spaghetti Westerns, Hong Kong martial artists, knife throwers and even Fellini-esque circus performers. But like kimchi pasta, some things aren't meant to mix."
— Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter

Are we only up to Saw VII? It feels like IX or X by now. Anyhow, this one's in 3-D, and the reviews are similar to the earlier Saw movies: If you like this kind of thing it's not bad; if you don't stay far, far away.
"The central storyline is starting to feel really played out, but there's a palpable sense of actual fun to this alleged final film."
— Luke Y. Thompson, E!
"That Saw 3D is relentlessly repugnant will delight the franchise's fans and surprise almost no one. The best that can be said for the pic, gamely directed by longtime Saw cutter Kevin Greutert, is that it offers little in between the traps, which are more creatively vicious than they've ever been."
— Rob Nelson, Variety
"Any signs of life the series showed in the last installment (Saw VI), a dash of humanity here and there, were premature.
