She was born Diana Melani Zoe Liyanage to Sri Lankan parents in June 1982 in Surrey, England. She studied at Murray Edwards College in Cambridge, graduating in 2004. While at college she worked on the TV series Cambridge Spies in 2002 as a Runner for the production company. She started producing and directing her own short films after graduating, becoming director of Wonderland Films Ltd. Her directorial film debut was the short film Black Feathers in 2006. She was also Casting Director for the documentary drama The Real Bronson in 2010. She became a writer in 2020 and is the author of the Axel Lennart novels.
