Rob Lieber, the writer of the latest Karate Kid movie that is currently in production, has signed with UTA for representation in all areas.
The writer was previously at Verve. That agency, however, underwent an internal battle amongst partners that went public, leading to the ouster of one of the founding partners. Several literary clients were caught in the brouhaha’s wake, with UTA picking several of them up in the last month or so. The agency previously signed comics author and screenwriter Brian K. Vaughan and Masters of the Air co-creator Jon Orloff.
Lieber made a name for himself in the studio family space, with producer credits in Sony’s hit live-action/CG hybrid Peter Rabbit as well as Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, both released in 2018, and Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which starred Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner.

In 2004, Rolling Stone launched its 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. Tabulated from a massive vote that had artists, industry figures, and critics weighing in, the list has been a source of conversation, inspiration, and controversy for two decades. It’s one of the most popular, influential — and argued-over— features the magazine has ever done.
So we set out to make it even bigger, better, and fresher. In 2021, we completely overhauled our 500 Songs list, with a whole new batch of voters from all over the music map. Our new podcast,...

Popular Science is relaunching its YouTube channel with help from a notable pair of educational creators. Kevin Lieber and Matthew Tabor, who grew Vsauce2 into one of the biggest Stem hubs on the internet, have taken creative control of PopSci‘s YouTube home.
Lieber and Tabor became familiar faces in the YouTube community after joining Michael Stevens‘ Vsauce brand more than a decade ago. By producing curious, clever, and insightful explorations of scientific concepts, Lieber and Tabor attracted 4.5 million subscribers on Vsauce2 and pulled in more than 780 billion lifetime views.
Vsauce2 began to change last year, when Lieber announced that the channel would undergo a transition. “The old YouTube is gone. Everything is different now,” Lieber said at the time. “I just feel like making my style of educational content sustainably is impossible, so this channel as you know it is done. It’s just time that I do…something else.

Stanley Martin Lieber, aka Stan Lee, was practically Marvel’s mascot, appearing in numerous Marvel projects. His cameos extended beyond movies to include audio, animation, and various other mediums.
He was a legendary comic book guru—often referred to as the co-creator of many iconic Marvel Comics characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, the X-Men, and the Hulk, among others.

A couple years ago, Marvel received copyright termination notices from comic book artist / writer Larry Lieber and the estates of fellow artists / writers Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Don Heck and Don Rico that would have caused them to lose the sole copyrights to such characters as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and others, as well as titles like Amazing Fantasy, The Avengers, Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Man, Journey Into Mystery, Marvel Super-Heroes, Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, Tales of Suspense, and Tomb of Dracula. As reported in 2021, Marvel filed a series of lawsuits in response to those copyright termination notices. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that all of those lawsuits have been settled.
The termination notices targeted not just specific artwork and stories, but also “any character, story element, or indicia reasonably associated with the Works.” As The Hollywood Reporter explains,...

Elvis Presley‘s “Hound Dog” is one of the most important songs in the history of rock ‘n’ roll but it doesn’t exactly have deep lyrics. Frank Sinatra insulted “Hound Dog” onstage while its writers looked on from the audience. Sinatra’s feelings about the tune didn’t stop him from recording another tune from the same songwriting duo. Surprisingly, the songwriters weren’t big fans of Elvis’ “Hound Dog” either.

The songwriters Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller wrote tunes Elvis recorded, “Hound Dog” being the most famous example. In their 2009 book Hound Dog: The Lieber and Stoller Autobiography, Stoller discussed something Sinatra said onstage. “‘We’d like to do a new song for you,'” he said. “‘I don’t know it very well, but I’ll do the best I can.
