The Podcast Academy, a group of 1,000-plus industry creators and executives, awarded Campside Media and Sony Music Entertainment’s Chameleon: Wild Boys with the top honor at this year’s 2023 Ambie Awards.
Wild Boys, which serves as the third season of Campside’s Chameleon series, uncovers the story of two young men who claimed to have been raised in the wilderness in British Columbia and proceeded to fool a small town. The eight-part series was led by Sam Mullins with producer Abukar Adan, senior producer Ashleyanne Krigbaum, editor Karen Duffin and ep Matthew Shaer.
“I had nothing happening in my career. I had two young kids, I was working in a taco restaurant, and I never made a podcast before. And Campside deserves so much credit because I cold-emailed these guys, and they just believed in the story, and they believed in me, and they changed my life, and I’ll never forget it,...

NBC’s La Brea wraps up season two with episode 14 which begins with Gavin at death’s door. Episode 13 ended with Gavin (Eoin Macken) and his group discovering Moore’s backup portal just as a gigantic lizard attacked. Gavin was thrown aside and landed on a stalagmite that pierced his abdomen. (Ouch.) The good thing about this is that it won’t be Gavin making the plan on how to get out of this situation. I have no idea why people continue to listen to him!
It’s determined they can’t lift Gavin off the rock or he’ll bleed out.

NBC’s La Brea season two episode 11 is titled “The Wedding” but there’s a lot more going on besides the exchange of I Dos. Episode 11 opens with Caroline (Melissa Neal) and her dad, Silas, going over Dr. Moore’s notes, hoping they’ll lead to a solution on how to send Gavin and his family home. They’re not making any progress and are worried Gavin will turn to James for help. Silas (Mark Lee) regrets that he failed to protect Gavin from James all those years ago and dedicates himself to working on Moore’s notes.
He sends Caroline back to the camp to watch over her son. Seconds after she walks away, Silas is shot. The shooter picks up the now blood-spattered notes and leaves without showing their face.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for La Brea Season 2, Episodes 8 & 9, “Stampede” & “Murder in the Clearing.”] La Brea is back and building some serious drama early on in its midseason back-to-back premiere, which saw leading man Gavin (Eoin Macken) forced to make some tough decisions regarding his family’s future. After traveling to the 1980s from 10,000 B.C. and back again, Gavin and his family — son Josh (Jack Martin), daughter Izzy (Zyra Gorecki), and wife Eve (Natalie Zea) — were fully reunited. But the bliss didn’t last long as Gavin crossed paths with his biological mother, Dr. Caroline Clark (Melissa Neal), who warned of the threat his father, James (Jonno Roberts), poses. (Credit: Manfred Baumann) As viewers will recall, Caroline crafted a digital virus that was meant to destroy James’ portal-opening capabilities for the safety of humanity, but once Gavin was ready to deliver the punishing blow upon his return to the past, he couldn’t do it.

NBC’s La Brea season two episode eight ended with Gavin stopping the virus upload when it was 99 complete. Episode nine, “Murder in the Clearing,” picks up minutes later with Gavin (Eoin Macken) demanding to know his dad’s plan for getting them back home.
James (Jonno Roberts) claims his team’s on the verge of fixing the machine so it can be used safely. The catch? Dr. Harold Moore, the only scientist who understands the formula, is missing somewhere in 10,000 BC.
If Gavin can find him, then maybe they can all go home. And, it turns out, Gavin’s mom knows Harold and might know where to locate him.
Eve (Natalie Zea) shows up inside the Tower and wants to know why the virus stopped uploading.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for La Brea Season 2, Episode 7, “1988.”] La Brea is leaving fans with quite a cliffhanger, or rather, a sinkhole of questions following the midseason finale episode, “1988,” which saw Gavin (Eoin Macken) reunite with people from his past as well as the family he’s built along the way. After traveling to 1988 with the help of his father, James (Jonno Roberts), Gavin is reunited with his son Josh (Jack Martin) alongside Izzy (Zyra Gorecki) and Eve (Natalie Zea) who travel to the future to find him. The journey also sets the Harris family on a path of reunion for Gavin and his biological mother Caroline (Melissa Neal). Believing that they might be in the clear to settle down in this more modern time period, Caroline informs Gavin that in order to accomplish the mission to prevent further sinkholes from forming, he’ll have to use his handprint. The trouble with that? He’ll...

It's official. Like the passengers of the SS Minnow before them, the Lotus airlines castaways will remain stranded. As reported in February, the Wrecked TV show on TBS has been cancelled. At that time, star Zach Cregger announced the series' end on Twitter. Now the TBS cancellation has been confirmed.
A TBS single-camera comedy, Wrecked also stars Ally Maki, Asif Ali, Brian Sacca, Brooke Dillman, Jessica Lowe, Rhys Darby, and Will Greenberg. Guest stars include Rob Corddry, Eugene Cordero, Jonno Roberts, Karan Soni, Rachel House, Robert Baker, and Will Hines. The Lost parody centers on a diverse group of strangers who are stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. In the third and final season, the castaways find themselves shipwrecked on a mysterious billionaire’s private island, where they're forced to hunt each other to the death in a basic-cable battle royale.

It’s official — TBS will not be ordering a fourth season of its comedy series Wrecked.
The writing had been on the wall for the series about a group of people stranded on an island, after their airplane crashed in the ocean. Its third season ended its run in October, and star Zach Cregger indicated on Twitter last summer that there would be no fourth season.
Wrecked, a comedic take on Lost — was a breakout hit for TBS when it debuted in 2016 but its ratings have tapered off since then.
Wrecked was about a diverse group of airplane passengers stranded on an uninhabited island, a dangerous new world where they must face many threats – mostly brought on by themselves. No longer plugged into the rest of the world, the group struggled to navigate their makeshift society while also learning to live without such modern comforts as indoor plumbing, wi-fi, social media and Chipotle.

Recently we caught up with French writer and director Nicolas Simonin (the man behind the much buzzed-about short film Derailed), who provided us word and a trailer for his next horror short, Seizures.
Written, directed and produced by Simonin, Seizures stars Jonno Roberts ("C.S.I.", "Person of Interest", "Lie to Me"), Veronica Wylie and Scott Loska and centers around (according to the official synopsis) the character of “Vincent, a photojournalist suffering from a brain injury, [who] tries to reconnect with his past by developing old film strips of pictures he doesn’t even remember. Everything leads him to a strange gas station, where the man will face his worst nightmare.”
“It's a film in the vein of Jacob's Ladder, Angel Heart and Memento,” Simonin said of his sixteen-minute Seizures, which is slated to make its North American festival debut this fall. “It’s a psychological thriller with some disturbing, shocking images,...

The first feature film from Famous Monsters of Filmland is Downstream, written and directed by Philip Kim (with co-directors Simone Bartesaghi and Neil Kinsella), and it's having a sneak preview followed by a Q&A in Hollywood, CA on February 24th.
Downstream is one of the first handful of projects to be shot on the Red One camera for a modest budget, and the synopsis is as follows:
Wes Keller (Jonathon Trent) is a young man born to a world where oil has collapsed, the food supply has been wiped out, and cancer rates for women have skyrocketed, depleting the female population. In a barbaric environment where bio-fuel, batteries, bullets, and people are currency and marauders roam free, Wes tries to escape to a mythical world run on cold fusion -- "Plutopia", a place that may only exist in the mind.
The Bill Is Due. Downstream is a view of the not so distant future.

Sometimes what is horrifying is not what happens to people, but what can happen to all of us in the future. Downstream is an an independent production that completed in 2008 and now an official movie poster is available along with the synopsis, which does not portray tomorrow as something to look forward to. In Downstream's future: "the food supply has been wiped out, and cancer rates for women have skyrocketed, depleting the female population." If that is not horrifying enough visit Quiet Earth to see the latest trailer that shows a world rampant in violence where central Wes Keller can only dream of hope and a better tomorrow.
A synopsis for Downstream here:

Completed in 2006, it took The Elephant King three years to hit DVD, after spending its first two years touring the festival rounds. It’s one of those films that seem to belong only in film festivals, playing for a curious and typically forgiving artistic crowd, where its lofty storytelling and derelict characters would be better appreciated.
The intention is noble and reasonably sound—it’s a movie showing the other side of those “finding one’s self by traveling” stories. Often, these movies are about unhappy westerners who trot off to far-end foreign lands; discovering love, friendship, life lessons and destiny. The usual backpacker bullshit. In its own overwrought way, The Elephant King does explore something closer to reality, of young men wanting to escape from their responsibilities back home and party in a third world atmosphere where they as the White American enjoy the luxury of superiority over the exploitation of peasant locals,...

The Wizard Of Oz 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’S Edition (Warner Bros.) A true highlight in digital restoration technology, Warner Bros. restoration of the 1939 classic is cause for celebration. The Technicolor of the late ‘30s looks as though it was shot yesterday, and is especially stunning on Blu-ray, which was produced by scanning each of the film’s original Technicolor camera negatives using 8K resolution. From this scan, a final “capture” master was created in 4K, yielding twice the resolution seen in the master utilized for the film’s previous DVD release. Judy Garland’s Dorothy is charming as ever, and the entire cast: Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley and Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch, are all stellar. Four disc set bonuses include: Sing-along track; Documentaries and featurettes; Two 1914 silent films produced by Oz author L. Frank Baum, based on his stories...

Simone Bartesaghi and Neil Kinsella direct a furious, apocalyptic and darkly satirical action film, written by Philip Kim, and starring Jonathon Trent and Elizabeth Roberts. The film, set somewhere in a nightmare America where both oil and water are in incredibly short supply, is a pretty low-budget affair, but don’t let that put you off, there’s some dynamite ideas going on here.
Downstream begins with a montage of society collapsing; oil and clean water are running out, virtually all women are succumbing to a mysterious new form of cancer which may stem from Gm crops, and the cities are no-go zones, as the populations spread out to the countryside for safety. It’s a clear nod to the opening of the great Soylent Green, with the images flickering faster and faster,...

New York - How did a low-budget movie with no lead stars (save supporting actress Ellen Burstyn) get the highest opening per-screen gross in the country?
Seth Grossman's drama "The Elephant King" scored $16,000 at New York's Angelika Film Center this past weekend. The marketing efforts of producer Unison Films may provide a roadmap for struggling indies to get inexpensive attention in an overcrowded theatrical marketplace.
"King" stars a man (Tate Ellington) who travels to Thailand to bring his troubled older brother (Jonno Roberts) back to the Us at the behest of their mother (Burstyn), but ends up sidetracked by an unexpected romance. After its 2006 Tribeca Film Festival premiere and a round on the fest circuit, the filmmakers decided to handle its own promotion and ink a distribution-only service deal with Strand Releasing.
Unison head Emanuel Michael worked with Priority Films to contact Asian, Thai, drug and alcohol groups, and film schools at local universities.

As "The Elephant King" is making its way to theaters in New York on Friday, October 17, Unison Films bring forward two brand new clips promoting the romantic drama. The two clips each present a brothel scene where Jake is persuading Oliver to choose one of the girls he likes and a car scene in which Oliver's mother explains to him why she needs him to bring Jake home.
Telling a provocative and stirring story of two American brothers, "Elephant King" follows Oliver and Jake Hunt as they fall into an exotic world they don't fully understand. Sent by his mother to Thailand, Oliver has one mission in mind, luring his reckless, older brother to go back to the U.S. to face the fraud charges held against him. But, when he arrives in the intoxicating Thailand, he soon discovers that he falls deeply in love for the first time.

If you're planning to run off to Thailand to live a hedonistic life fueled by drugs, sex and kickboxing, be sure to see "The Elephant King" first.
You would not want to end up like Jake (Jonno Roberts), a slacker experiencing just such an existence.
He faces fraud charges back in New York, and his kvetching mother, played by the great Ellen Burstyn, desperately wants him to return to her arms. So she dispatches Jake's kid brother, the depressive Oliver (Tate Ellington), to Thailand to bring her wayward boy home.

There's plenty to be pleased about this week as we get to spend time with both current and future presidents as part of an Ellen Burstyn double bill. There's also -- whisper it -- a movie based on a video game that might actually be worth seeing. Not to mention enough titular wordplay to make Richard Lederer's head spin. It's all just pun and games though, right?
