Updated: Netflix has renewed Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, for a third and fourth season. Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation) has been named showrunner for the upcoming seasons. She replaces Debra J. Fisher, who served as showrunner on the first two seasons.
Given Ginny & Georgia’s very strong performance and very appealing economics, the two-season order is not a surprise; Netflix has done it on other series with similar pedigree, including Virgin River.
What is surprising was the four-month wait for a series of that level of ratings success to be renewed. According to sources, the pickup was done awhile ago but held for Netflix’s upfront.
As for the showrunner change, there had been rumors about friction between Fisher and Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert. By April, there was speculation that Fisher would be departing the series.

The Wellsbury Peaches are here to stay for at least two more seasons.
Netflix has ordered a third and fourth season of “Ginny & Georgia.” The streamer shared the announcement on Wednesday during this year’s Upfronts presentation.
Created by Sarah Lampert, the dramedy follows Ginny (Antonia Gentry), a 15-year-old who is more mature than her 30-year-old mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey) in a New England town, where Georgia decided to settle down with her daughter and son, Ginny and Austin (Diesel La Torraca). Jennifer Robertson, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter and Raymond Ablack also star.
In January, Season 2 ratings for the Netflix drama took down “Wednesday” for the No. 1 spot on the Netflix Top 10 English TV List with 180.47 million hours viewed following its debut, making it the most-watched title on the streamer for the week of Jan. 2-8. Right on the heels of being poked fun at by “Saturday Night Live,” “Ginny & Georgia” has entered the top echelon of Netflix viewership. Season 2 of the mother-daughter series has reached Netflix’s Top 10 list of English TV seasons at No. 10.
Season 2 of the series, which premiered all eight episodes on January 5, has reached a total of 504.77 million hours watched in its fifth week of availability, according to numbers provided by Netflix. The streamer additionally estimates that 56 million households watched the season, although that’s based on its total hours viewed divided by its roughly 9 hour runtime. The show’s ascent means Season 2 of “13 Reasons Why,” another teen series, has been booted from the all-time list.
On Netflix’s chart dated January 30 through February 5, “Ginny & Georgia” Season 2 is at No. 2 behind fantasy show “Lockwood & Co,” with an additional 38.09 million hours viewed. Season 1 of “Ginny & Georgia” also makes the list,...

The show’s name is Ginny & Georgia, so it clearly wasn’t going to keep the mother and daughter apart for long. Following the Season 1 finale cliffhanger, in which Ginny and her little brother skipped town after she discovered that their mom had poisoned their stepfather, the Season 2 trailer features Georgia and her kids back under the same roof in Wellsbury.
Ginny is trying to live with her mom’s deadly secret while acting normal, which is proving rather difficult, and tensions rise between the two.
“I’m not normal, I’m a damaged trailer park teen mom murderer,” Georgia exclaims at one point.
While Maxine still appears mad at Ginny for hiding her relationship with her twin brother from her, Ginny and Marcus’ romance is back on despite the “mistake” comment he made in the Season 1 finale.
“You make sense to me,” Marcus tells Ginny but also adds, a little ominously,...

The second season of Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia starring Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey will premiere on January 5, 2023. Series creator/executive producer Sarah Lampert told Netflix’s Tudum that fans can expect the new season to pick up just a few weeks after season one left off.
“We spent all of season one breaking these characters down and putting them in certain places,” explained Lampert. “So, we wanted to honor that by picking up season two just two weeks later. We jumped right back into where we emotionally left everyone at the end of season one.”
The premiere date announcement was accompanied by a batch of photos from the 10-episode second season.

Netflix has set January 5 for the Season 2 premiere of Ginny & Georgia, starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry. The streamer also released some first-look photos of the upcoming season, which shed some light on what happens after the Season 1 finale cliffhanger that saw Ginny and her little brother on a motorcycle, leaving town after she discovers that her mom had poisoned her stepfather.
The photos (you can launch the gallery above), indicate that Ginny (Gentry) and her brother return home. The expectation was that they fled to Ginny’s father Zion in Boston, which still could be the case as a photo has Zion confronting his ex in the family kitchen. Ginny also is back with her friends at school and shares a moment with her on-again off-again love interest Marcus, while Georgia (Howey) is seen embracing her fiancé Paul.

Kelly Marie Tran, Significant Productions, and Madica Productions aren’t going to take the recent attacks on sexual assault survivors lying down. Instead, they aim to make a powerful film starring Tran as the real-life activist Amanda Nguyen, founder and CEO of civil rights organization Rise. In addition to her starring role, Tran is producing the project chronicling Nguyen’s journey in writing and passing the Survivors’ Bill of Rights while galvanizing a global community of survivors and allies.
Nina Yang Bongiovi, Jeff Tahler, and Amanda Nguyen produce alongside Tran and are looking for Cannes Short Film Palme d’Or Winner Tang Yi to write and direct.
According to today’s press release about the untitled project, this endeavor follows the passage of a first-of-its-kind United Nations resolution focused solely on access to justice for sexual violence survivors, which was introduced by Sierra Leone and championed by Rise. The resolution agreed to by the U.

Kelly Marie Tran is developing a biopic about one of her close friends, the civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, alongside Significant Productions and Madica Productions.
The Star Wars and Raya and the Last Dragon actor is attached to star as Nguyen in a feature that would depict her transformation from a survivor of college sexual assault to an activist for survivors’ rights, including penning a Survivors’ Bill of Rights (which inspired the federal law passed in 2016) and founding the civil rights accelerator Rise. Earlier this month, Nguyen was present at the United Nations session where the general assembly adopted a resolution to address justice for sexual violence survivors, which Rise helped to champion.
“Over the years, Amanda’s activism has changed the lives of billions, as she continues to make our world safer for sexual assault survivors everywhere,” Tran said in a statement.

Taylor Swift is calling out Netflix YA drama series Ginny & Georgia over what she called a “lazy, deeply sexist” joke made about her dating life.
The line with which Swift took issue came in an episode during a conversation between Georgia, played by Brianne Howey, and her teenage daughter Ginny (Candy Jar), on whether Ginny had moved on from her boyfriend Marcus (Felix Mallard). “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift,” Ginny snapped.
Swift fans quickly denounced the line on social media, and Swift herself responded on Twitter. “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY,” Swift wrote. “Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you Broken heart Happy Women’s History Month I guess.” Netflix premiered Swift...

Netflix dropped the trailer for “Ginny & Georgia” Tuesday, its coming-of-age TV series that follows a mother and daughter who both have some growing up to do.
In the video, which you can view here and above, young mother Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) walks into her teenage daughter’s, Ginny (Antonia Gentry), room to show her a new shirt she’s bought her. Ginny is not a fan and groans over the selection, “Gross.” Georgia is shocked to find her tastes don’t match her daughter’s, “This is the new thing you’re doing now? Hate on mom? Come on!
