LONDON -- News executives were scrambling Monday to finalize plans for coverage of Pope John Paul II's funeral Friday while also breathing a sigh of relief at Monday's announcement that the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles has been put back a day to Saturday. A statement from the Prince's official spokesman Paddy Harveson said the decision to postpone the wedding by a day had been made in deference to the events surrounding the funeral in Rome, which Prince Charles will now attend. "As a mark of respect, His Royal Highness and Mrs. Parker Bowles have decided to postpone their wedding until Saturday," Harveson said. "It's absolutely the right thing to do. The wedding is still going to be a good day, but it has just been pushed back 24 hours. Hopefully the majority of guests that were going on Friday will be there on Saturday." For a time broadcasters were looking at the prospect of having to cover both events on the same day. "We were prepared to cover the wedding and the funeral if they had been on the same day, but now that won't be necessary," said John Paxson, London bureau chief for CBS News.
