Even though we're not done with Halloween, Disney isn't wasting anytime digging back into the world of Santa Claus with a second season of the Disney+ original series "The Santa Clauses." Tim Allen is back as jolly old Saint Nick, and now he's focusing on turning all the happenings at the North Pole into a family business. Elizabeth Mitchell is still as supportive as ever as Mrs. Claus, Cal Calvin Claus (Austin Kane) is preparing to eventually become Santa Claus at some point with a little Santa training program, and Sandra Calvin Claus is helping out in the background by taking care of the reindeer and whatnot.
Of course, getting the North Pole in shape for Christmas isn't their biggest concern; there's trouble brewing in the form of another Santa Claus. Eric Stonestreet ("Modern Family") is playing Magnus Antas or The Mad Santa. Apparently, he thinks Scott Calvin's version...

It's kind of baffling that "The Santa Clause" is one of those franchises that's still going on today. It feels like something we should be talking about in hushed whispers. Like, "Hey, remember that Disney movie where Tim Allen commits manslaughter against Santa Claus and then undergoes a Cronenbergian physical transformation into Jolly Old St. Nick after inadvertently entering a contractual agreement to take his place? The '90s were wild, man." To be fair, I'm sure even Allen had no idea he would still be playing the cynical toy marketing director turned fabled gift-giver Scott Calvin almost 30 years after starring in the original "Santa Clause".
Yet, here we are in 2023, with season 2 of the Disney+ sequel series "The Santa Clauses" right around the corner. Season 1, much like the feature-length "Santa Clause" sequels before it, was far from a critical darling, but it absolutely has its supporters and brought in...

Eric Stonestreet, who comes off as a big teddy bear in ABC’s Modern Family, is about to get angry. Stonestreet is joining the cast of The Santa Clauses Season 2 as Magnus Antas, otherwise known as the Mad Santa. This not-so-jolly Christmas-themed character reigned in the 14th century and is returning to take Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) off the board and reclaim the North Pole. What a jerk! I thought Santa was supposed to be nice!
In The Santa Clauses Season 2, the Calvin family returns to the North Pole after Scott’s retirement plan falls apart faster than Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree in a soft breeze. After failing to find a successor, but still saving Christmas, Scott begins training his son Calvin to eventually take over the “family business” as Santa Claus.
The Santa Clauses Season 2 is produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, and is currently in production.

Do not adjust your monitors, and listen closely to Tony Hale‘s mellifluous voice as he guides you through a meditation that will leave you feeling light as a feather and do wonders for your self-esteem. I’m talking about an exclusive clip for episode 6 of The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2, featuring Hale’s Dr. Curtain and Marta Kessler’s Constance Contraire.
In The Mysterious Benedict Society exclusive clip, Constance tunes in to a PSA hosted by Dr. Curtain, urging viewers to relax and give themselves over to the power of positive thinking. While Dr. L.D. Curtain (Hale) promises viewers a pathway to unbridled happiness; fans of the show know better than to take the untrustworthy villain at his word. As Constance’s eyes begin drooping, we can see her falling into a trance, which could spell trouble for the whip-smart troublemaker and her misfit friends.

The Mysterious Benedict Society season 2 debuts Oct. 26 on Disney+, and now is the perfect time to catch up. Season 1 arrived in June 2020 but was quickly lost to adults in the shuffle of the new Marvel and Star Wars universe series.
Season 2 follows up on season 1’s unique combination of mystery and adventure with a necessary social message. Even though Disney+ is targeting the series for preteens and teens, the show’s writers have made sure that there are plenty of strong concepts, jokes, and references adults can enjoy.
“We have kids thinking of the way they’ve experienced the recent past as a relentless tide of anxiety, and how do we get to the bottom of that and how do we find ways to contend with it?” co-creator and executive -roducer Phil Hay said in an interview with Den Of Geek in June 2020 before the premiere of season 1.

New characters, big special effects, and dancing — all things viewers can expect from the second season of Disney+’s magical ride, The Mysterious Benedict Society. The cast — Emmy DeOliveira (Kate), Mystic Inscho (Reynie), Seth Carr (Sticky), and Marta Kessler (Constance) — joined TV Insider in our New York Comic Con studio earlier this month to talk about what they’re most excited about for the audience to see in the new episodes. Tony Hale (Benedict and Curtain) and Kristin Schaal (Number Two) also were there to talk about things like the show’s soundtrack, which often leans heavily to ’70s and ’80s pop, like Jefferson Starship and Stevie Nicks. Hale also chatted about how he channels both his characters, who are brothers but are very, very different. “One of the big differences is Curtain — who’s kind of the bad brother but just misunderstood, I think — if he’s talking to somebody,...

Disney appears to love two things at the moment: Marvel and Tony Hale. And while both are fun in their own right, the work the studio has been doing with Hale has created some adorable and downright weird programming aimed at children, starting with the creation of Forky in “Toy Story 4” and the Emmy Award-winning spin-off short series, “Forky Asks a Question.”
“The Mysterious Benedict Society,” based on Trenton Lee Stewart’s book, is another entry in Disney’s collaboration with Hale that is equal parts charming, wacky, weird, and whimsical. Series creators Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi skillfully create a world engaging enough for children but with enough added mystery and complexity to ensnare adults (or Disney’s patented brand of childless millennials.)

These days, family TV loves nothing more than a planet in peril.
On Netflix, for instance, kids may have recently watched a group of hybrid children undergo a population-decimating pandemic on “Sweet Tooth,” a team of extraordinary children attempting to save London from the supernatural in “The Irregulars,” and a kid superhero face down cataclysm in “Raising Dion” — to name just a few. While imagining kids with unique powers is hardly new (ask J. K. Rowling — or don’t), the current wave of these entertainments seems suggestively to borrow from the superhero-movie tradition. These entertainments sold to audiences old and young trade on the idea of the perfectly trained individual saving the world. It’s no wonder kids want to see themselves in the picture, too.

Tony Hale has identified the only people who don’t love “Arrested Development”: Mr. and Mrs. Hale, his parents.
For Mother’s Day, Jimmy Kimmel had celebrity guests read real tweets from their mom. Here’s the one Hale read for the ABC late-night host: “Hey son, our new friends are Loving ‘Arrested Development. We still don’t get it.”

Kimmel asked Hale, who stopped by on Thursday to promote his new Disney+ series “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” if that was really real.

Good news, of a sort. The US is apparently not the only country having problems with cults. The Russian TV miniseries “Sekta” (“The Sect”) dramatizes the emotional and physical brutality of what cults can do to the gullible, and how hard it can be for others to rescue and de-program the victims. Powerful, if unpleasant, to witness, yet seemingly insightful and realistic about short and long-term effects on all touched by such situations.
The protagonist is a nurse, Lilya (Svetlana Khodchenkova), who helps a trio of parent-hired freelancers after they’ve managed to retrieve an unwilling Nika (Anastasiya Chistyakova) from her large, violent cult. The leader is a charismatic guy who claims the usual sort of insight beyond this lifetime, and a path to eternal bliss. They have no problem using any means to retake Nika,...
