The failure of 2.0 and Will's resignation left huge problems for Gaffney, and it was anyone's guess where the hospital would go from there.
But Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 1 jumped ahead a few months when things had settled down, the hospital had been sold, and a new doctor was ready for his first day on the job.
It was a creative choice that paid off. By throwing the characters into a new crisis, we learn what life at Gaffney is like now and determine whether Dr. Ripley is made of strong stuff.
The hospital seemed to be running smoothly. Jack Dayton and most of his technology were gone, and Maggie was back to running the Ed floor during a crisis. It felt like the Med viewers have known and loved for eight years!
A multi-car crash or other disaster could have easily felt like a tired TV trope, but it...

You can scarcely surf the great streaming ocean without happening on a serial killer documentary or series, a fact that probably says more about us than the entertainment industry. All options, however, are not created equal. For every few quick-and-dirty procedurals, you’ll find something with real style and personality — something like The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders, a zesty doc that walks right up to the edge of dark comedy, peers over the cliff, and takes a cheeky plunge into something weird and wonderful. Director Maria José Cuevas...

The shows were over, but for Phil Kaufman, the headache was just beginning. Then the road manager for the Flying Burrito Brothers, one of the bands credited with finding the common ground between rock & roll and honky-tonk country, Kaufman had just returned home to Los Angeles, after some Burrito-related work in 1969. In the trunk of his Ford Country Squire station wagon were the embroidered cowboy suits the band had worn onstage and on the cover of its first album, The Gilded Place of Sin. Named after Nudie Cohn, the...

Okay, we can breathe now.
Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 16 featured one of the most intense sequences in the show's history after Quentin got pinned to an Mri machine, but it all worked out.
Quentin appears to be in his right mind again -- for now, anyway -- and he got to hold his baby son. It couldn't be any more perfect of an ending.
I don't know how Layla was comfortable letting Quentin hold baby Trevor, though.
The incident began when Quentin claimed that the baby wasn't his. He got agitated and ran off with the scissors. And there's no guarantee it won't happen again.

The situation was resolved too quickly, at least regarding Quentin's mental illness. Charles said while tests were not completed yet, Quentin likely had a rare genetic disease that could be treated.

The long wait is over.
It's been a month since we checked in with our friends at the Gaffney Medical Center, but the series is back on March 22.
Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 16 will make up for the long hiatus by getting viewers' adrenaline pumping during a high-stakes rescue story. And Cfd will assist in a semi-crossover between Med and Chicago Fire.
Before Covid, characters traveled between One Chicago shows regularly. Med's original premise was a semi-crossover -- Will was Jay Halstead's brother beginning his residency at a nearby hospital.
Times have changed. Covid made it riskier to have actors from one show visit another, Jay left Chicago Pd, and the three series became only tangentially connected. So Med staff working with Chicago Fire Department to rescue a patient is a Huge deal now.

David Sullivan ended up in the Ed again.
It was inevitable after Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 1 when his parents refused to believe that he had schizoaffective disorder and refused to get him psychiatric help.
But on Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 15, David had been on psych meds for a while before having another psychotic episode. Who could have predicted that after his parents' attitude the last time?
Since David's parents had refused treatment, it would have made more sense if David's auditory hallucinations and belief he was dead came from being unmedicated.
However, where would the story have gone if Chicago Med had gone in that direction? We already had the story of the parents refusing to accept that their son needed help; we didn't need a repeat.

It's been a rough year for the Gaffney Medical Center, and it will worsen.
After Dayton solved the supply chain issues by pouring more money into the hospital, things returned to normal. The worst problem has been balancing his desire to integrate new technology into the hospital with maintaining high standards of patient care.
But Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 15 spoilers point to a new problem: a custodial strike that could cripple the hospital.
I knew Charles' optimism about the potential labor dispute was unrealistic! Custodians and other low-paid employees need to put food on the table and support their families; they aren't going to accept low wages that no longer cover basic needs.
Sharon's decision not to offer a raise because other unions might demand one too could only blow up in her face. Now, the custodians are striking, and it doesn't appear that her plan to fly in strikebreakers will work.

Some happy news in the "Love is Blind" universe: season one contestant Jessica Batten is pregnant! On Jan. 5, the reality star announced she was expecting her first child with husband Benjamin McGrath via Instagram. Alongside a series of photos of the couple framing Batten's pregnant belly with a heart, the reality television alum wrote, "New Year, Same Me, New Mom!" She went on to share that the baby was due in early June. "Sending the best wishes and blessings your way in 2023," she said. "We're excited and humbled to share we will welcome our baby into the world and into our growing family."
Batten, who now works at a tech startup, met McGrath, a California-based doctor, in March 2020. McGrath reached out to his now-wife on Instagram after watching her on the Netflix show. They got engaged in September 2021, and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Santa Barbara,...

It seems to happen to every TV hospital sooner or later.
Some rich person who has no idea how medicine is supposed to work buys a controlling interest in the hospital, leading to chaos and poor patient outcomes.
With Jack Dayton set to take over Gaffney Medical Center, will Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 10 be any different than the stories on The Good Doctor and New Amsterdam involving a corporate takeover?
While the other takeovers came more or less out of nowhere, Chicago Med has carefully laid the groundwork for whatever Jack Dayton is going to do.
Dayton has done favors for the hospital to show his appreciation for Marcel saving his life and that of one of his employees. He financed the Or 2.0. And now he's bought a controlling interest in the hospital.

What a heartbreaking story!
Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 8 featured a homeless man who was given unnecessary procedures while his cancer was left untreated so that it could ravage his system.
This infuriated Choi -- could this be the beginning of his exit story? And even the hard-to-like Archer was sympathetic during this one!
Working in a hospital isn't for the faint of heart. These doctors regularly see death and destruction, and the hardest cases are the preventable ones.
Buddy's was doubly infuriating because he'd had the bad luck to cross paths with doctors who wanted to commit fraud instead of being interested in saving his life. As Choi said, his cancer would have been treatable if the original doctors had treated it instead of using him to line their pockets.

Don't do it, Maggie!
Her relationship with Ben is already on the rocks because of his jealousy of Grant, and now that Vanessa's not in town, there is little reason for Maggie to spend time with Vanessa's father.
But things will go from bad to worse on Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 8 when Maggie takes a literal trip down memory lane in Grant's car and gets into an accident!
This is a bad idea for Maggie for so many reasons.
She's in a vulnerable place at the moment. She misses Vanessa, and Ben doesn't seem to understand why the daughter who only came into Maggie's life two years ago is so important to her.

Grant does understand that, and he's exploiting the existence of their shared daughter to worm his way back into Maggie's life. Maggie has told him that she's happily married,...
