Samuel Joshua Smith was born on May 18, 1978 in Tarzana, California to Nan (Erlich), an artist, and Marc Smith, a litigation attorney.
After spending two years at the University of Arizona, Sammy transferred to the University of Southern California where he studied media, law, politics and cinema. After graduating, he continued his law studies at Southwestern University School of Law and Charles University in Prague, where he focused on entertainment law and international human rights. Sammy also completed director and cinematography graduate classes at USC.
During law school, Sammy produced, wrote, and directed the short film "A Token For Your Thoughts" A Token for Your Thoughts (2003) which had an ensemble cast that included Mehcad Brooks and Cisco Adler. The short was one of the first acquired and distributed by Atom Films and was viewed over 250,000 times.
Over the years, Sammy taught himself how to edit and is fluent in Avid, Final Cut Pro, Premiere and Davinci Resolve.
Sammy wrote, produced, directed, edited, and performed visual effects and compositing for the music video Something Sweet (2004) for artist Jason Evigan which also featured actress Briana Evigan.
In 2006, Sammy passed the California State Bar examination and is licensed to practice law before all California state courts and the United States District Courts for the Central District of California. Sammy has successfully represented a variety of artists and businesses against huge corporations to protect their intellectual property rights.
In 2009, Sammy produced, directed, and edited a music video featuring actress Briana Evigan as part of a non-profit effort to uplift underprivileged children.
In 2015, Sammy edited a music video for Queen of Electro, Luciana Luciana.
In 2018, Sammy created "Badsie" to provide production and post-production services as well as to release comedic sketches and digital shorts on its social media channels.
In 2019, Badsie began releasing several videos through its Instagram and YouTube platforms. In short order, and mostly during the pandemic, Sammy collaborated with several actors and comedians including Natalie Friedman, Michael Blackson, B. Simone, Jacob Berger and Vincent Marcus.
In 2021, Sammy randomly met SNL Alumni and comedic legend Chris Kattan on a photo shoot. Since that time, Sammy has worked on three episodes of Kattan's new series, "Hey Kattan". Sammy appears in one episode in a scene with Chris and also has credits on the series as an editor, drone operator, and co-director of photography.
Sammy is in development on multiple projects intended for production in 2022.
