A Not Ready for Primetime Player is teaming up with a different set of players in his SNL off-season.
Saturday Night Live cast member Marcello Hernández stars in a new Major League Baseball ad campaign highlighting Latine culture in baseball.
The campaign, titled “El Béisbol Es Otra Cosa”—which translates to “Baseball is Something Else”—shines a spotlight on not only baseball’s Latine stars, but also its Latine fan community.
The season-long bilingual ad campaign launched Thursday, and will run across MLB Media outlets, social platforms, and broadcast partners.
“Baseball is a sport,” Hernández explains in a 90 second launch video (above), before continuing in Spanish. “But to be honest, for us, baseball is something else.”
“Home is something you carry with you,” he continues.
The Cuban/Dominican comedian clearly has a personal passion for America’s pastime.

Saturday Night Live, which just wrapped its 49th season last weekend, has already gotten a head start on sponsorships for its golden anniversary.
NBCUniversal said Tuesday it has locked Allstate, L’Oreal Groupe, T-Mobile, and Volkswagen of America as sponsors of the show’s 50th season. The milestone will be highlighted by a primetime special on Sunday, February 16. T-Mobile, which has sponsored the past two seasons of the series, is going to expand that relationship next season.
As presenting sponsors, the four brands will be “closer than ever” to the program via “curated custom content and experiences” across the NBCU portfolio, the company said. Throughout the 50th season, “generations of comedic talent” will be celebrated via custom content and experiences, it added.
At last week’s NBCU upfront presentation to advertisers in New York, SNL cast members Heidi Gardner, Bowen Yang and Kenan Thompson made an appearance to tease the upcoming anniversary.

There are a plenty of longtime Saturday Night cast members, yet there were no big exits — or hints of departures — on tonight’s Season 49 finale of the venerable NBC late-night program.
No SNL veterans were tearing up at the end of their sketches like Kate McKinnon did in the 2022 finale, it was all smiles and fist bumps at the curtain call, and, after another brutal joke swap, Colin Jost and Michael Che wrapped their 10th season together on Weekend Update by wishing everyone a great summer.
This was to be expected, given that no one from this year’s 17-strong troupe would willingly miss next year’s big celebrations – The Big 50.
Host Jake Gyllenhaal set the stage for what is to come in his opening monologue, noting that the finale was “the last episode before the big anniversary season.”

Jake Gyllenhaal leaves Marcello Hernandez asleep in his chair while waiting for a yearbook signature in the promo for this season’s Saturday Night Live finale.
When castmember Hernandez approaches Gyllenhaal in the clip, the actor is seated in an empty Studio 8H practicing his lines.
“It’s so cool that you’re hosting the finale,” Hernandez says. “Do you mind signing my SNL yearbook?”
Gyllenhaal enthusiastically agrees and promptly bores Hernandez to sleep during a montage of his philosophizing over what to write. When he finally finishes, Hernandez jolts awake only to find Gyllenhaal has written rather simplistically “B kewl” and signed his name incorrectly, “Jack.”
“Whatever,” Hernandez says as Gyllenhaal exits. “It’s a fake yearbook for a promo anyway.”
Gyllenhaal will host this week’s season 49 finale with musical guest Sabrina Carpenter. This will mark his third time hosting, after stints in 2007 and 2022.

If this week’s promo is any indication, Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to take viewers on a strange trip when he returns for his third Saturday Night Live hosting gig.
The just-released clip shows Gyllenhaal rehearsing his lines for this weekend’s season finale alone in Studio 8H when he’s approached by Marcello Hernandez, who asks him to sign his SNL 2024 yearbook. Gyllenhaal obliges, but apparently takes his time finding the perfect words as a montage shows him cycling through tears, anger, epiphany, and eventual relief.
“Enjoy, papi,” Jake says as he returns the yearbook to Hernandez, who is asleep by this point.
The already off-the-wall promo ends by doubling down on the absurd, revealing the message Gyllenhaal just labored over. “B kewl!,” it reads, signed by “Jack.”
“You didn’t even spell your name right,” Hernandez shouts after Gyllenhaal as he walks away.

It’s a longstanding tradition: Get the cool kid to sign your yearbook. Castmember Marcello Hernández tries to do just that as he asks host Jake Gyllenhaal to sign his SNL Season Finale yearbook.
The affable Gyllenhaal generously agrees and spends quite a while agonizing and rhapsodizing as he writes with Hernández looking on.
When he finally finishes, the host hands the book to Hernández with a wink and says, “Enjoy, Pápi.”
To which Hernandez replies, “Pápi?”
He then checks the yearbook and finds a surprise.

NBCUniversal may have kicked off TV’s upfront week with the Wicked trailer, Snoop Dogg, and adorable penguins, but it closed Monday with a more dedicated pitch to one of its marquee divisions: It’s Spanish-language business Telemundo.
Held inside The Shed’s eight-story glass-encased McCourt space, Telemundo focused its tight presentation on its recent ratings wins over arch-rival TelevisaUnivision, with some not so subtle jabs at its competitor.
“We constantly change and give our audiences what they want, while others continue to do the same thing, night after night, week after week, year after year,” Telemundo’s new chairman, Luis Fernandez, told the crowd.
“We are known for being innovators, and filling the void of content to represent Latinos from all walks of life,” added Cesar Conde, the head of the NBCU News Group who also oversees Telemundo. “No other media company can do that because we are the...

It was all about mothers at the top of this week’s pre-Mother’s Day Saturday Night Live.
The variety show dispensed with its typical topical cold open for one that featured SNL castmembers sharing moments with their moms.
Kenan Thompson kicked off the show, appearing on the Studio 8H stage with his mom because, he said, “it’s “Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” which, she declared, meant there was still “plenty of time to buy a gift.”

Naturally, one of the first things he notices when he walks into the room is the hundreds of Sonny Angel dolls she has lining her walls.
“They’re companions for 25-year-old working women,” she explains. But, she assures, her date won’t need to compete with her 650+ dolls for her affection…just one.
Cue Bowen Yang, dressed as one of said dolls. Oh, and the Challengers soundtrack.
“I haven’t seen the movie,” Hernández admits, to which Yang replies: “Well, don’t worry, cause you’re about to live it.”

Eva Mendes praised Ryan Gosling’s Cuban accent in the “Can’t Tonight” Saturday Night Live sketch.
Gosling co-starred in the sketch with Marcello Hernández as two men trying to convince their friend, played by Kenan Thompson, to go out with them.

Known for breaking character and cracking up Saturday Night Live cast members in his previous two hosting stints on the NBC sketch program, Ryan Gosling stayed true to himself tonight, laughing in every skit he was in, much to the delight of the studio audience, and challenging his co-stars to keep a straight face — even seasoned veterans like Kenan Thompson.
The tone was set in the cold open, reuniting Gosling and Kate McKinnon for a third Close Encounters sketch, in which host Gosling could not stop laughing as McKinnon was demonstrating how aliens observed Gosling character’s private parts close and personal during their alleged abduction. She chuckled a few times too, with the rest trying to hide their smiles.
Then came The Engagement skit, in which Gosling played a newly engaged man having serious second thoughts about his decision to propose.

The “SNL” 5-Timers Club has been around since December 1990, when Tom Hanks joked in his monologue that a person’s fifth time hosting is when they receive a membership card into the club. Hanks then left the stage and joined Steve Martin, Elliott Gould and Paul Simon in an expensive-looking set with hors d’oeuvres, waiters and a doorman. The iconic club set would be seen multiple times on NBC’s late sketch comedy throughout the decades, often (but not always) when a new host is anointed as a five-timer. Members of the club are always seen wearing exclusive jackets embroidered with a “5” badge.

Ramy Youssef may not be a household name, but his self-titled comedy series "Ramy" on Hulu landed him Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, not to mention a Peabody Award in 2020. So, he's got the right amount of experience and accolades to be called up to host "Saturday Night Live." Furthermore, Youssef is an established stand-up comedian, joining the likes of Nate Bargatze and Shane Gillis as hosts this season. But how did he handle the live sketch comedy of "SNL" in his hosting debut?
Well, Ramy Youssef doesn't seem to have much versatility when it comes to providing a variety of characters, and "SNL" leaned back on familiar formulas like talk shows and game shows, though they still delivered some hearty laughs. But there were also some amusing, peculiar sketches in this episode, and of course, big laughs...

Marcello Hernández tried to inject the comedy rule of three into this week’s Thursday SNL promo, as he was joined by Ramy Youssef and Travis Scott.
“A Latino guy, an Egyptian guy and a Black guy walk into a bar…” Hernandez started. He was immediately shut down by Youssef and a somber Scott.
Hernandez acknowledged that the punchline was bad. “The set-up was, too,” said Youssef in a quick comeback.
The opening bit of the promo saw Hernandez try to say that Scott’s appearance is going to be in “Sicko Mode,” a shout-out to the artist’s hit.
“I told you not to do that in front of him,” Youssef said, as a downcast Scott simply shook his head.

Tom Sandoval of Vanderpump Rules was name-dropped on Saturday Night Live during the “Weekend Update” segment with Marcello Hernández making a reference to the Bravo star.
Hernández appeared during the weekly segment as a frozen embryo from Alabama after the state’s Supreme Court ruled that embryos are the legal equivalent of a child.
When Colin Jost asked the embryo who his parents were, they said, “No, but based on my accent and size, I’m going to guess Sofía Vergara and an oompa loompa.”
The reference to Sandoval came after Jost asked the embryo if it felt like a full human life.
“Does this look like a life to you Colin? I’m living at negative 200 degrees in liquid nitrogen, freezing my non-existent nipples off. I don’t got a brain, I don’t got a heart. I’m like Tom Sandoval,” Hernández said as the embryo.

A politically charged segment during the Feb. 24 episode of “Saturday Night Live” contained some brutal jokes about Tom Sandoval, the “Vanderpump Rules” cad who cheated on his longtime girlfriend with her friend and fellow cast member, the fallout of which elevated his profile to pop culture supervillain.

Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update went after former President Donald Trump’s wild campaign rhetoric, as well as the Alabama Supreme Court ruling this week that frozen embryos created through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) are human beings.
Co-anchor Colin Jost began by quipping that, after Trump won the South Carolina primary earlier in the night, he “is now undefeated everywhere except court.”
Of the former president’s recent hyperbolic comments, Jost joked that they reminded him of somebody: the comic book supervillain Bane.

The Saturday Night Live cold open tonight marked Donald Trump’s overwhelming victory in the South Carolina primary by skewering Republican senators humiliating devotion to him, even though he’s hurled insults at them, jeopardized their key causes and shown no loyalty back at them.
The skit had Lindsey Graham (James Austin Johnson), Tim Scott (Devon Walker), James Risch (Mikey Day) and Marco Rubio (Marcello Hernández) sharing a table at a hotel restaurant, munching on tater tots and pigs in a blanket.
“You know he once doxxed me, back in 2015,” Graham said. “They gave out my personal cell phone number in a speech to all his supporters. Had thousands of people call me up to yell at me. They threatened my life. Had to get a new phone. Switched to Verizon.”

Shane Gillis is struggling to workshop jokes in a promo for his Saturday Night Live hosting debut.
The comedian is hosting the upcoming episode of NBC’s sketch comedy show alongside musical guest 21 Savage.
In the video released on Wednesday, Gillis is testing some of his jokes for his monologue for SNL castmembers Marcello Hernández and Sarah Sherman, but they aren’t landing too well.
“I went to an Amish wedding once. I was the only one there who could do the Electric Slide,” he says, getting an awkward laugh from Hernández and Sherman.
Gillis continues, “New Planet of the Apes is coming out. It’s going to be bananas.”
He then teased the idea of doing some crowd work by asking audience members, “Are you guys dating? Are you seeing each other?” Hernández and Sherman jokingly went along, saying, “Yeah!”
“Gosh, must be nice,” Gillis says, followed by an awkward pause.

Comedian Shane Gillis will be making his long-in-coming Saturday Night Live debut this weekend, and it wouldn’t be the worst idea to keep expectations from soaring to impossible heights.
At least that seems to be the gist of his new SNL promo, which shows Gillis rehearsing a decidedly underwhelming monologue loaded with hackneyed, anything-but-controversial gags. “A new Planet of the Apes is coming out,” he cracks as cast members Sarah Sherman and Marcello Hernández look on. “It’s gonna be bananas.”
Gillis’ SNL appearance is already one of the more unusual bookings in the show’s history, coming about five years after the comic was hired as a featured player, but was fired before making his debut after videos surfaced in which he used an anti-Asian racial slur during his stand-up act (“always a Mad TV guy anyway.” he tweeted after he was let go).
