American Idol winners don’t always stay with their record label as they navigate their music careers, and now, another one has done likewise. Some of them like Maddie Poppe were devasted to lose their record label. Meanwhile, others get dropped or changed because they make mistakes like Laine Hardy.

Abi Carter, the 21-year-old musician from Indio, California became the 22nd winner of “American Idol” on Sunday night. She defeated Will Moseley and Jack Blocker in the season finale as judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie proudly looked on.
Abi made a bit of history, becoming the first Platinum Ticket recipient to win the competition since the judges started handing them out in Season 20. Singers who show a little “something special” in their auditions are given Platinum Tickets that allow them to skip the first round of Hollywood Week. The other Platinum Ticket holders in 2024 were Julia Gagnon, who placed in the Top 7 and Odell Bunton Jr., who finished in the Top 20.
In Season 20 the recipients were HunterGirl, Kenedi Anderson and Jay. That year the judges forecast one finalist in HunterGirl, who went on to become the runner-up to Noah Thompson. After her Top 24 performance of “Human,” Kenedi...

The Monday, April 22 live episode of “American Idol” Season 22 proved to be the end of the road for two fan-fave singers: Jayna Elise and Roman Collins. They were the only artists in the Top 12 that failed to earn enough votes from viewers to make it into next week’s all-important Top 10. Host Ryan Seacrest delivered the unfortunate news in front of judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The guest mentor for “Billboard #1 Hits” night was Meghan Trainor.
Throughout the competition, Jayna sang tunes like “The Climb” (Auditions round), “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” (Showstopper round), “Confident” (Top 24 round), “My All”, “All I Wanted”, “I Have Nothing” (Top 14 round) and “Diamonds” (Top 12 round). The 22-year-old performer from Washington, D.C. actually began her journey last year on “Idol,” but was eliminated prior to the Season 21 live shows. The good news is that she made it much further this time around.

The first live coast-to-coast episode of “American Idol” Season 22 aired on Sunday, April 21 on ABC, with the Top 14 contestants performing in front of host Ryan Seacrest, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and guest mentor Gene Simmons. Viewers all across the nation voted 19.9 million times throughout the two-hour episode, which had a theme of “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” and the Top 12 artists made it to the next round. In the end, the two singers who were eliminated were Nya and Jordan Anthony.
Throughout the competition, Nya sang tunes like “Wait a Minute!” (Auditions round), “Get Ready” (Showstopper round), “The Best” (Top 24 round), “Georgia on My Mind”, “Water” and “I Say a Little Prayer” (Top 14 round). The 28-year-old Broadway performer from Manhattan, New York was an early favorite on the show, but the judges had to save her last week when she placed in the bottom — never a good sign.

Melissa Etheridge and Danny Trejo are among the co-chairs of this year’s Mobilize Recovery initiative.

Could an upset be brewing on Season 21 of “American Idol”? All year fans have been forecasting Iam Tongi would take home the top prize, but he may not be the sure bet we’ve assumed. This season closely resembles a similar lineup up finalists from Season 17 when 18-year old country crooner Laine Hardy took down fan favorite Alejandro Aranda, who, like Iam, had become a viral sensation since his first audition.
This time around it’s 18-year old Mississippi native Colin Stough who has progressively grown his fanbase each week, delivering honky-tonk renditions of some of music’s most popular tunes. Like Laine, he was barely a blip on viewers’ radar in early rounds, but as judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie have pointed out, his star continues to rise.

“American Idol” may be a platform for aspiring unknown singers to showcase their talent outside of their bedrooms, but some contestants may have an advantage over others: being born into famous families.
Season 21 has already shown several so-called “Nepo Babies” — contestants with ties to the entertainment business — competing for the crown, including Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics (pictured).
“With all your different opportunities and connections and stuff, how did you even land on ‘American Idol?’” Judge Katy Perry asked before her audition.
It’s a fair question, but “nepo babies” competing on “American Idol” is nothing new. In the past, the offspring of parents with varying backgrounds from music, acting, sports, and politics have all found their way in front of the judges.

American Idol is still going strong after 20 years. In 2002, millions of people tuned into the singing competition’s very first finale, which produced one of the biggest pop-country stars today: Kelly Clarkson. Since then, American Idol has paved the way for dozens of other finalists in the music world. Here are the complete lists of American Idol winners and runners-up, plus details on the upcoming season.

Ratings of the show have consistently been high and have led to the completion of 20 successful seasons. Its last season aired on ABC from February 27 to May 22, 2022, with Noah Thompson emerging as its winner. American TV viewers’ sudden obsession with reality competition shows like “The Amazing Race,” “American Idol,” and “Survivor” in the early 2000s was powerful enough to catch the attention of the TV academy, who responded by establishing the Best Competition Program Emmy category in 2003. Since then, the award has been given annually in honor of outstanding game or talent show entertainment.
All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 27 to cast their 2022 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite competition programs. In the past, voters were limited in the number of shows they could put forth, but the cap was lifted in 2017. As opposed to the Oscars, Emmy voters do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

It pays to have good buddies. It did for Noah Thompson, whose friend Arthur encouraged him to audition for Season 20 of ABC’s American Idol. Never in a million years would the 20-year-old construction worker from Louisa, Kentucky think he would end up winning the damn thing. Host Ryan Seacrest announced Thompson earned the nationwide vote over HunterGirl during the live grand finale on May 22. In many ways, this blue-collar young dad personifies living the American dream. It has been a whirlwind few days for the budding country superstar. So much, in fact, that Thompson rushed to pick up a computer an hour outside of town for Zoom interviews. We caught up with the Idol champ — from a little bit away from where he lives because his home doesn’t have WiFi — to talk about his journey and what is next. “American Idol” crowned a new winner last night (May 22). Twenty-year old Louisa, Kentucky native Noah Thompson sealed the deal with a sultry performance of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire” and his original song, “One Day Tonight.” He beat out fellow country artist, HunterGirl.
After Thompson’s rendition of “I’m on Fire” — from Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” album — judge Katy Perry foreshadowed his victory. “So many people have fallen in love during that song, used it as their first-dance song,” she said. “I think you just swooped in and grabbed every heart in America by singing that song.”
Thompson also performed Rihanna’s “Stay,” his out-of-the-box pick from early in the season, and delivered a perfect duet with powerhouse Melissa Etheridge for her hit, “I’m The Only One.”
“Oh my God … my heart is beating out of my chest, this is crazy,” a stunned Thompson...

Sunday night belonged only to American Idol as the singing competition dominated primetime ratings and viewership.
American Idol delivered a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demo and 5.60 million viewers per fast affiliates. While holding Sunday’s top rating isn’t necessarily a new feat for the ABC singing competition, Idol bested usual audience winner 60 Minutes. American Idol Season 20 concluded with Noah Thompson taking the crown. The latest season of the ABC competition showed decent retention, falling only two-tenths in the demo and about 7 in viewers from its season premiere. ABC kicked off its evening with the season ender of America’s Funniest Home Videos, which rose from its premiere in October. At 7 p.m., Afv came second only the final hour of the 2022 PGA Championship.

In the words of Ryan Seacrest, America has voted and the winner is... Noah Thompson. On May 22, the 20-year-old was crowned the winner of American Idol season 20, beating out finalists Huntergirl and Leah Marlene. (Don't worry, there's no bad blood: The singers eagerly cheered on their friend after all was said and done.) The season finale started off with the contestants performing their own takes on classic Bruce Springsteen songs, like "Dancing in the Dark" and "Born in the USA." Those renditions were followed by performances of original songs, which they wrote during the season. Throughout...

American Idol crowned another winner Sunday, and it was a country music showdown for the ages.
ABC went live coast-to-coast to allow the final three the opportunity to make a plea for America's vote.
Thanks to the excessive three-hour runtime, the episode was overstuffed, but hey, at least we got some great musical performances along the way.
Even after all these years, the former Fox reality series still knows how to deliver show-stopping performances, thanks to the wide array of talent the producers reel in to take part.
Leah Marlene kicked off the show in thrilling fashion with a rendition of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," a performance that garnered the 20-year-old much praise from the judges.
"What big boots you have stepped into," Lionel Richie said, clearly impressed by the immense talent on the show this year.
Katy Perry declared Marlene to be "the whole package," which...

I was not a fan of any of the original songs tonight, but more on that later. Congratulations to all of the final three, who I am sure have bright futures ahead of them. I will say that my favorite performance of the night came from the entire top 10 joined by Flo Rida and the performance of “Smile” by Christian Guardino and Michael Bublé, which I need on my IPod now. So for the last time this season, hit your lights and let’s go!
