Carlos Alcaraz's first Roland Garros success was a landmark win because of the many records he set.
Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev last Sunday in five sets to win the clay-court Grand Slam, picking up where his childhood idol Rafael Nadal left off. He also emulated his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, whose solitary major title came at the 2003 French Open.
With doubts about the severity of his forearm injury, which kept him out of action in the majority of the warm-up tournaments, Alcaraz did not experience any physical problems throughout the fortnight in Paris except for a couple of moments when he battled a mild cramp in the semifinal and final, but he had a remedy for it.
What made Alcaraz's triumph special is that all three of his Grand Slams came from three different surfaces. At 21, he is the youngest man to achieve this feat.
But a couple more Open Era records stand out.

Carlos Alcaraz continues to reach new heights thanks to his rapid rise into the highest tiers of sport and is now one of the most famous names in tennis.
The Spaniard became the sixth tennis player to attain and cross the five million mark in followers on Meta's social media platform, Instagram. This was fastened by Alcaraz's most recent Grand Slam success last weekend when he won the French Open for the first time.
The 21-year-old became the youngest man to win a major on all three surfaces in professional tennis after coming from behind to defeat Germany's Alexander Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 in over four hours.
He joins fellow Spaniards Juan Carlos Ferrero (his coach) and childhood idol Rafael Nadal in the winner's list. Alcaraz is now one Australian Open win away from winning the career Grand Slam (winning all four majors). It would make him...

Alexander Zverev was very complimentary of Carlos Alcaraz after their Roland Garros final, calling him a 'beast.'
The young Spaniard is certainly a very physically imposing player, especially with the way he plays. He's quick around the court, capable of hitting some incredible shots and generating a lot of power.
He's also very fit, which allows him to battle for hours in the sun without feeling it too much, as he showed in the Roland Garros final. It was a long and hard battle, with Zverev holding an edge after three sets, but the Spaniard prevailed with a furious fourth and fifth set.
After the match, Zverev conceded defeat, admitting that while they were both physically strong, the Spaniard was a beast.
"We're both physically strong, but he's a beast. He's an animal for sure, and then the intensity that he plays tennis is different towards other people. He...

Alexander Zverev failed to win his maiden Grand Slam trophy at the 2024 Roland Garros, and after the match, he bemoaned some of the factors that contributed to that.
It was a fairly well-contested match by the German player despite very few giving him a proper chance. He spent more time on the court than Carlos Alcaraz and generally didn't instill the same amount of fear in players as Alcaraz did, and that's why many pundits favored the Spaniard to win the match.
He did, but it didn't go as easily as some thought it would. Zverev actually held a 2-1 lead after three sets of play, but then he couldn't keep the same level. He got outplayed in the final two sets, though there were some unlucky moments, which he bemoaned after the match.
One, in particular, was a controversial call that went Alcaraz's way, and Zverev thinks things might...

Carlos Alcaraz will reportedly play at next week's Queen's Club Cinch Championships despite a very long and exhausting week at the 2024 Roland Garros.
Alcaraz arrived in Paris without too many matches on clay as he dealt with a right forearm injury. The Spaniard then experienced some leg issues as he had his leg taped for the final against Alexander Zverev, so many assumed that he would just take some time away from the tennis courts until Wimbledon.
The decision would make a lot of sense. He just had a crazy two weeks in Paris and is probably fatigued. There is clearly some minor fatigue going on with his body that will need time to heal, and it's not like he needs too much tennis ahead of Wimbledon.
He can just play an exhibition in Hurlingham a few days prior, like many players opt to do. After all, he won it last year without much experience,...

Carlos Alcaraz admitted after the 2024 Roland Garros final that he had plenty of doubts while Alexander Zverev was leading in the match.
The Spaniard entered this year's Roland Garros as one of the favorites to win simply because of his skill set, which works really well on clay. Zverev also endured a lot of long matches, which certainly impacted his fitness, especially towards the end of the final match.
Even with all of that, it was a final and tricky matchup for the 21-year-old, which is why, after three sets, Zverev was leading 2-1. Alcaraz actually had a 5-2 lead in that third set but then lost five games in a row to lose the set.
That was obviously a huge momentum shift, which left Alcaraz doubting himself because he had just basically thrown away a set.
"When I finished the third set, I had a lot of doubts. I'm not gonna lie.

Alexander Zverev was on the wrong side of a judgment call by the umpire in the 2024 Roland Garros final, and it was a crucial point that might have swung the match.
Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz were embroiled in a very close battle that went over four hours and in five sets. The German had a slow start but responded furiously to win the second set and then turned around a 2-5 deficit into a 7-5 set win in the third.
The fourth set wasn't very good for the German, as Alcaraz crushed him easily, but the final set was a proper battle between the players. The Spaniard was better, but the score doesn't paint the best picture because it was actually closer than the 6-2 score would suggest.
The 21-year-old broke early in that fifth set, taking a 2-1 lead, but then they played what many would describe as the pivotal game in the match.

Carlos Alcaraz won his first Roland Garros last Sunday and has moved into the Top 10 list of the wealthiest Atp players in history.
The Atp's prize money leaders list comprises the players with the highest earnings generated throughout their careers from the tennis courts, including active and retired stars.
Alcaraz now finds himself in this prestigious band for the first time. Last November, Alcaraz cracked the top 20 list of the highest prize money earners in tennis history, having banked the bulk of his funds from the beginning of the 2022 season.
That year, he properly announced his arrival on the big stage, defeating Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in back-to-back matches to win the Madrid Open.
Later that season, he captured his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open and became the youngest Atp World No. 1. The Spaniard has gone from strength to strength since, averaging one Grand Slam every season.

Carlos Alcaraz has won three major titles so far in his career, and he had trouble ranking them when asked about it.
The Spaniard won his maiden Grand Slam trophy in 2022 in New York, becoming the world number one player in the process. He was actually the youngest man to reach the world number one spot.
He then bested Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon to win his second Grand Slam trophy, and that triumph is iconic. Not only was it a huge moment for him personally due to his unfamiliarity with the grass, but it also snapped Djokovic's 10-year unbeaten streak on Wimbledon's Centre Court.
That was certainly special, but so was winning Roland Garros for the first time. He grew up playing on clay and watching Rafael Nadal win Roland Garros, so the event holds a special place among many Spaniards.

Carlos Alcaraz was asked about chasing Novak Djokovic's 24 Grand Slams after winning his third in Paris, and he admitted he'd like to.
The Spaniard is on record for admitting that he wants to be the greatest tennis player of all time. That's a bold thing to say for a young player, but Alcaraz has the confidence and skill level to back it up.
He just won his third Grand Slam trophy at the age of 21, and he has many more chances to come in the future. He is also on record for admitting that he wants to break Djokovic's 24 Grand Slams record, which is absurdly bold.
Again, we come back to self-belief, which is really strong. He was asked about that after beating Alexander Zverev in the final of the 2024 Roland Garros, and he admitted that he wants to get to that number, but he's not really thinking about it much right now.

The Olympic Race to Paris concluded after the 2024 Roland Garros, and we now have a picture of the full standings.
There are multiple ways that players can qualify for the Olympics tennis tournament, one of which is through their Atp ranking as of June 10th, 2024. This is the most assured way to enter the main draw to compete for bronze, silver, and gold medals.
The tournament will be played on clay at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, the same venue as the clay-court Grand Slam. The singles tournament will be contested by 64 players, of whom 56 will use their Atp ranking of June 10th, which aligns with the Olympics race.
Therefore, Jannik Sinner, who rose to World No. 1 this week, is also the overall race leader with 9525 points. And behind him is Carlos Alcaraz, who is fresh from winning his third Grand Slam at Roland Garros on Sunday.

Carlos Alcaraz made a substantial leap into the top three of the Atp race and has reduced the gap to leader Jannik Sinner thanks to his first Roland Garros title win.
Sinner set the early pace when he won his first Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open, amassing 2000 points. Since then, he has won titles in Rotterdam and Miami to steadily establish a big gap at the top.
But after the conclusion of the French Open, in which Alcaraz defeated Sinner in a decisive semifinal, the Spaniard cut his lead by winning the tournament. He now sits on 3900 points, a gap of 1400 from the Italian.
Alexander Zverev is sandwiched between the pair in second place. He was the runner-up at Roland Garros and now has 4385 points, putting him close to Sinner.

Following the conclusion of Roland Garros, the Atp rankings saw massive changes, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz emerging as the biggest winners.
Sinner officially takes control of the men's rankings in a historic first for Italy with 9525 points. The 22-year-old is the new World No. 1, ending Novak Djokoivc's 428-week reign at the top. He was a semifinalist at the clay-court Grand Slam.
Djokovic's withdrawal from the French Open after the fourth round because of a knee injury has seen him slip to third in the fresh rankings, and he could face a further rankings slide if he doesn't play at Wimbledon.

Carlos Alcaraz won his third Grand Slam title after beating Alexander Zverev in a five-set final at the 2024 Roland Garros.
Alcaraz and Zverev have played some really impressive matches in the past, and this one was a solid battle as well. Zverev is a tricky matchup for the Spaniard, with his powerful serve and amazing court coverage, which troubled him greatly the last time they played on clay in Paris.
The German player won that match, and many wondered whether he could do it again. The opening set started with nerves for both as they traded breaks early. After that, Alcaraz stepped up his play and was able to break Zverev to go up in the first set.
The German didn't respond all too well, which is why Alcaraz was able to escape and win that opening set relatively easily, 6-3. Zverev missed too much, but he found his stroke in the second set.

The German player won that match, and many wondered whether he could do it again. The opening set started with nerves for both as they traded breaks early. After that, Alcaraz stepped up his play and was able to break Zverev to go up in the first set.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and his younger brother Petros Tsitsipas will depart Roland Garros with a fraction of their prize money docked from their payslip.
That is because the tournament sanctioned them for multiple cases of code violations related to excessive coaching. This is obviously not a major surprise, considering their history.
In April, Tsitsipas was warned by the chair umpire Nacho Forcadell during a match at the Barcelona Open after his father Apostolos went overboard with coaching, to the point where it became a dialogue.
Coaching in professional tennis was long banned, but the rules were revised for the past year. Players are able to receive verbal instructions and hand signals initiated by their coach, but there are limits to this, which the Tsitsipas family did not adhere to in three separate matches this week.
According to L'Equipe, two of those fines were for doubles. Stefanos and Petros beat the defending champions,...

According to Boris Becker, Alexander Zverev has matured enough to have a good shot at this year's Roland Garros trophy.
Zverev will contest the Roland Garros final against Carlos Alcaraz, who eliminated world no. 1 to-be, Jannik Sinner, and the German will be the underdog in the final. He will be mostly an underdog because he's facing a player who has won a Grand Slam before and also scored some big wins over him.
Still, the matchup is far from one-sided, as Zverev scored some big wins against the Spaniard as well. In fact, he won the only match they played in Paris two years ago, so he won't be without chances in this final.
His maturity in his game has impressed many, including Boris Becker, who knows Sascha very well. Speaking to Eurosport, Becker assessed Zverev's chances ahead of the tricky final against Alcaraz, admitting that he could see Zverev win the match.

Carlos Alcaraz can be 'nearly impossible to beat' according to former Atp world no. 1, Mats Wilander, who sees his incredible potential.
Alcaraz is already one of the best players in the world as he'll look to win his third Grand Slam trophy on Sunday at the 2024 Roland Garros. The Spaniard is only 21 years old, so he's far from his peak, and that's scary for his opponents.
If he's this good right now, then how good will he be at his peak? That's a good question, but it is very hard to answer. Wilander is convinced that he can be near unbeatable at his peak, which could be true.
At moments, he's near unbeatable right now, and he's not even close to his peak. According to Wilander, who spoke to Eurosport, the key to winning is realizing that he doesn't have to play flashy.

Carlos Alcaraz achieved an amazing feat by booking the 2024 Roland Garros final, and he reacted to it after the match.
Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam trophy at the US Open two years ago. He was just a teenager but had already proved himself to be an amazing player by doing that. He became the youngest world number one ever after that event.
The Spaniard then won Wimbledon last year and added a Grand Slam final on grass. That was an amazing achievement, as he snapped Novak Djokovic's 10-year unbeaten streak on the Centre Court in London.
The only surface he was missing a major final on was clay, and by beating Jannik Sinner in the semi-final of the 2024 French Open, the Spaniard secured a Grand Slam final on all surfaces.

Carlos Alcaraz has revealed the remedy he used to overcome a mid-match cramp during his semi-final win over Jannik Sinner.
In a battle between two of men's tennis' current flagbearers, Alcaraz came out on top of a seesaw match that began horribly for him but ended in delight and relief after four hours.
The reason for his joy is that Alcaraz agonized over a cramp, potentially wrecking his Roland Garros for a second year in a row, only to pull through. Last year, the Spaniard competed bravely against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic for two sets before his body betrayed him.
The 21-year-old would later disclose after the match that he was overwhelmed by nerves and tension, given the nature of the contest and the opponent he was facing.
And it seemed the same issue bothered him during the match against Sinner, 12 months to the day. This time, however, he would...

Carlos Alcaraz is a versatile player who can play well on all surfaces, something he learned from the game's legends.
The Spaniard is known as a versatile player who can play well on any surface. He might have grown up on clay, but his first Grand Slam came on hard. He even won Wimbledon already, which shows how quickly he can adapt to a surface because he barely played on grass before winning at SW19.
Now, he's in the Roland Garros final with a chance to win a major on clay, further confirming his versatility as a player. He worked towards achieving this because all the legends of the sport played well on all surfaces.
If he wants to become one of the best players in the world, then he has to work towards being good on all surfaces, because Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer all were.

Jannik Sinner isn't thinking about becoming world number one after losing to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 Roland Garros, but it doesn't change much for him.
Becoming world number one is obviously a great achievement, and the Italian player is glad about it; however, he isn't overwhelmed by it. It's been a goal for much of his career, and while it came differently than he would have liked it, it won't change much for him.
His thoughts right now are mostly about the very competitive match with Alcaraz, in which he held a 2-1 lead in sets, but lost it. Asked about becoming the world number now, Sinner admitted he was still thinking about the match, but there will be time to enjoy becoming the world number.
"Unplug in the next few days? I'm not thinking about it right now. I still have the game in my head. I don't know...

Jannik Sinner didn't have the best performance against Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 Roland Garros semi-final, and he struggled with cramps on top of all of that.
It wasn't a very good day at the office for Sinner on Friday as the Italian suffered a pretty upsetting loss against Alcaraz in the semi-final of the season's second major. It was a fairly decent match at times but neither really impressed with their level overall.
Both also struggled with cramps, especially Sinner, who admitted to it after the match but also acknowledged that he handled them far better than he used to in the past.
It was a high-stakes match, which was nerve-wracking, against a tough opponent who was ready to battle in the sun for hours, which is what happened.

Jannik Sinner lost to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2024 Roland Garros, and he explained after the match that it had nothing to do with his hip.
Neither Sinner nor Alcaraz looked spectacular in their semi-final match at the Court Philippe-Chatrier, as they combined for nearly 100 unforced errors. Alcaraz left a better impression than Sinner, though neither was at their peak.
Both experienced some issues with cramping, and the Italian, at times, looked very flat. After doctors had previously advised him not to play at Roland Garros, he was asked whether the hip had something to do with his loss.
He rubbished that claim, explaining that he moved well. For the most part, he's right because he did move fairly well, but he didn't play as sharply as he could in the moments when he really needed to.
"Hip was okay. The more goes on, the right hip doesn't have the strength of the left hip.

Carlos Alcaraz will compete in his first Roland Garros final on Sunday and he will face Alexander Zverev, who will also compete in his maiden final in Paris.
There are some interesting parallels between these two players as they both played some amazing tennis historically in Paris but never quite got over the hump. The young Spaniard saw his dreams shattered by cramps last year, while Zverev's ankle injury prevented him from possibly going all the way two years ago.
After playing some amazing tennis, they made it to the semi-finals this year. Alcaraz proved better than Jannik Sinner in five sets, while Zverev downed Casper Ruud in four. Now, they will be facing each other in the final.
Head-to-head:
The two players have played against each other in finals before, as they contested the Madrid Open final in 2022. Alcaraz won that match easily, but the matchup hasn't been as easy since then.

Carlos Alcaraz made history on Friday as he reached his first Roland Garros final with a five-set win over Jannik Sinner.
The Spaniard took a while before he demonstrated his all-court excellence, fending off the challenge of incoming World No. 1 Sinner in a four-hour battle that required the full five sets.
Alcaraz recovered from a 2-6, 0-2 deficit to beat Sinner 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. It was his fifth win in nine meetings against the Italian, and he now has a positive head-to-head record against him.
But this was more than just heading the series. Alcaraz will contest his first Roland Garros final on Sunday against Alexander Zverev, who saw off an ailing Casper Ruud in the second semifinal.
Firstly, Alcaraz continues to follow the great track record of Spanish male players in excelling on the Parisian clay. He will look to join his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and childhood idol,...

Much like last year, Carlos Alcaraz once again struggled with cramps at the 2024 Roland Garros, but this time, he handled them far better.
Last year's Roland Garros semi-final was annoying for the young Spaniard, who experienced painful cramps just as he was starting to turn around the match against Novak Djokovic.
This year, he experienced cramps again in the semi-final match against Jannik Sinner, but they were lighter compared to last year, and he knew how to handle them.

Alexander Zverev finally advanced past the semi-final at the Roland Garros by beating Casper Ruud, setting up the Roland Garros final against Carlos Alcaraz.
The German made the semi-final in Paris for three consecutive years, but he never advanced past that stage at the clay-court major. This year finally proved that year as he was able to easily dispatch two-time finalist Ruud in four sets.
The opening was not good for Zverev, who got crushed by a very inspired Norwegian, who won the opening set 6-2. Ruud was flying around the court, hitting the serve and forehand well, and it was just a marvelous performance by the two-time finalist.
Zverev looked stunned and tired, but he picked up the slack in a major way in the second set. He actually gave Ruud a taste of his own medicine by beating him 6-2 as the Norwegian started to deal with physical problems.

Carlos Alcaraz struggled quite a bit against Jannik Sinner in the 2024 Roland Garros semi-final, but he engineered a marvelous comeback in five sets.
Sinner was a slight underdog in this match, but he didn't look like the underdog at the start of the match. He completely outplayed the Spaniard in the first few games. He took a 4-0 lead, which was too hard to overturn, even though he did find a solid rhythm after that.
After the first set, it was 6-2, and when the Italian broke early in the second set, things looked very complicated. Then came Alcaraz's comeback, which turned around the match in a pretty spectacular fashion.
Sinner didn't play well in the second set, as he didn't serve well and missed a lot of balls. The two-time major winner, however, looked more and more confident, taking it 6-3.

Jannik Sinner will become world number one after the 2024 Roland Garros, and former legendary player Mats Wilander thinks he'll be number one for a very long time.
The way the Italian player finished last season made many of his rivals realize that he was taking the next step in his career. He elevated his level, won a couple of trophies, and just looked primed to take his game to an even higher level.
That's what happened in Australia, where he won his maiden Grand Slam trophy this year, and he's still playing at that level. He's in the Roland Garros semi-final, which ensured he became the new world number one on Monday.
According to former player Wilander, who spoke to Eurosport, he'll stay there for a while but not in one go because Carlos Alcaraz will likely insert himself in that equation. Nevertheless, Sinner is very worthy of that number-one rank.

Carlos Alcaraz will face Jannik Sinner in the 2024 Roland Garros semi-final, and he doesn't consider himself a favorite.
The two youngsters have been the best performers at this year's Roland Garros so far. They've been amazing, and both have about an equal chance to win the season's second major.
Many would pick Alcaraz as a favorite in their match, mostly because of his clay-court qualities, but he wouldn't agree with that. Sinner has been the best player this year by far, and even though the Spaniard beat him in Indian Wells, it's still not enough for him to declare himself a favorite.
He does enjoy the challenge of problem-solving in real-time, and he'll have to do that a lot against the Italian, at least if he wants to win.
"I really like having to find solutions on the fly to change the course of the matches, like I did in Indian Wells.

Stefanos Tsitsipas protested against Carlos Alcaraz's "extended" grunt during their quarterfinal match at Roland Garros and called for the chair umpire to step in.
For the sixth time without a reply, Tsitsipas lost to Alcaraz. The Spaniard only needed one break of serve to win the first set 6-3. The Greek rescued the situation momentarily when he recovered a break deficit in the second set to force a tie-break.
While trailing 1-5 in the breaker, Tsitsipas complained to the umpire, Aurelie Tourte, about the issue. He felt that Alcaraz's grunt was becoming distracting, especially in the last shot before the changeover when the ninth seed was set to make contact with the ball and could hear the grunt.

Carlos Alcaraz is well aware of what awaits him in the next match at the 2024 Roland Garros as he's set to play Jannik Sinner, whom he called the best player in the world.
These two players have been the most impressive so far at Roland Garros. We've known that the Spaniard can be marvelous on clay, but many wondered whether Sinner could bring that machinery to the red dirt, and so far, he's been amazing.
The win over Grigor Dimitrov was impressive, similar to Alcaraz's expected win against Stefanos Tsitsipas. It's an interesting matchup, one in which either player can win, and the former world no. 1 is fully aware of that.
He beat Sinner in Indian Wells earlier this year, but it wasn't easy, and it won't be easy this time either, as his rival is the best player in the world according to the 21-year-old.
"It’s a really difficult challenge.

Stefanos Tsitsipas was quite confident about his chances against Carlos Alcaraz heading into their 2024 Roland Garros clash, but it didn't go so well.
The Greek player has looked really good at this year's Roland Garros, and he wanted to do really well also against the third seed. Outside of some minor issues against Matteo Arnaldi, he was confident in his game, which is so important for him.
If he doubts himself, then he's not as effective as he can be. Even heading into the match against Alcaraz, Tsitsipas remained confident despite having never beaten the Spaniard before.
Unfortunately for him, it didn't go well because Alcaraz took an early break, which set the tone for a match he ended up winning. After the match, the Greek player talked about his approach, admitting that his overconfidence might have hurt him.
"I won't lie, I was confident. I felt more confident than I usually am.

Stefanos Tsitsipas was supposed to play mixed doubles with girlfriend Paula Badosa at the 2024 Roland Garros, but they couldn't, and he's still upset about it.
The tennis' most famous couple is back together, and fans in Paris were supposed to finally see 'Tsitsidosa' in an official mixed doubles match. They played together late last year at the World Tennis League, but they never got to play in an official match, unfortunately.
There were plans to play doubles at Wimbledon last year, but it never materialized. This year's Roland Garros was supposed to be finally their debut tournament, but once again, they were forced to withdraw from it.
Luckily, the culprit this time around wasn't Badosa's injury; it was the rain and schedule, which meant that Tsitsipas would have had to play three matches in one day.
He had his singles match, which he won, and his doubles match, which he also won.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will play the 'small final' before the real Roland Garros final, as they will meet in the most anticipated semi-final match.
The two youngsters are the two best players in the world right now, and they have been the most impressive players so far at Roland Garros. Sinner has been smashing opponents since the event started, and he has never really found any issues in any of his matches.
Alcaraz has been equally impressive with his play, but his overall performance was also expected because he grew up on clay, and he proved his qualities many times. Sinner didn't play that well last year because the Italian was beaten by Daniel Altmaier early in Paris last year.
Head-to-head:
The two young superstars have played eight times against each other, with the H2H tied at 4-4. It's a rivalry that will carry tennis in the coming decade,...

Daniil Medvedev is out of the 2024 Roland Garros, but he analyzed the remaining draw during his post-match press conference.
Medvedev didn't have the best Roland Garros, but he didn't arrive with very high expectations. The Russian dealt with a foot issue in his match against Alex de Minaur, which clearly hampered him as the match went on, and the score reflects that.
The longer he dealt with it, the more frustrated he became, which impacted his focus. He simply got crushed by a very inspired de Minaur, who is generally a tough matchup for him.
After the match, reporters asked Medvedev about how the event might unfold, and he chose Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner above the rest. Novak Djokovic has looked good, but an injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament.
"Oh, very, very tough to say. Well, you know, I always think predictions are a little bit disrespectful,...

Novak Djokovic withdrew from Roland Garros before his scheduled quarterfinal match and could be set for a rankings slide.
Djokovic's knee injury proved problematic in the last two rounds of the tournament against Lorenzo Musetti and then Francisco Cerundolo. He needed to play ten sets and nine hours of tennis to progress into the last eight.
The 37-year-old started the tournament as World No. 1, but after pulling out from the clay-court Grand Slam before the quarterfinal, he has guaranteed Jannik Sinner to surpass him in the points tally and become the new No.1 on Monday, June 10th.
Djokovic's dominance at the top of the rankings will temporarily stop at 428 weeks. He already holds the record for the most weeks at no. 1 and recently stated that he is not obsessed with the rankings for the 2024 season and that he expected Sinner to take control at some point.
But the Serbian could...

Just like last year, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-final of the Roland Garros, securing a spot in the semi-final against Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz was widely considered to be the favorite for this match simply because fans in Paris saw this matchup also last year, and it was a pretty easy win for the Spaniard. It's a bad matchup for the Greek player generally because the way his opponent plays puts a lot of pressure on his backhand, which can't sustain it for the most part.
Alcaraz has a variety of ways to attack Tsitsipas, and he generally has no problems doing so. He never lost to the Greek player before this match, which painted a clear picture of the matchup.
The first set certainly confirmed all of that because Alcaraz broke early and then added another break late to win it 6-3. He didn't have any issues...

Carlos Alcaraz had previously faced Novak Djokovic in Paris, and the match ended up being quite painful for him.
The Spaniard had won a set against Djokovic and looked well on his way to possibly turning around the whole match when cramps hit. The cramps ultimately proved decisive, as the Serbian was able to win the match.
It offered Alcaraz a chance to see just how difficult it truly is to play against Djokovic in the French capital. He's played him on all surfaces, and he didn't win all of those matches, which means that he's seen the best of the 24-time major winner across the board.
He finds it very difficult to deal with him, which he explained recently at the 2024 Roland Garros, where they may meet again.

Novak Djokovic remained tight-lipped when asked for his opinion regarding the Roland Garros schedule, which led to his late finish to his third-round match against Lorenzo Musetti.
Djokovic's path to the second week of Roland Garros was a long one because he needed five sets to overcome an inspired opponent in Musetti. Their tussle lasted four hours and 26 minutes and finished in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 3 a.m. finish was the latest in a match at Roland Garros since the tournament inaugurated a night session back in 2020. It smashes the record of the previous late-night finish by at least 90 minutes.
Tennis pundits have heavily criticized tournament organizers for the farcical scheduling, with Djokovic's former coach Boris Becker calling it "mad and unprofessional" that a Grand Slam match would run past midnight.
Fellow players have also weighed in on the subject. Coco Gauff stated that it was unhealthy...
