“Survivor” debuted on CBS as a summer program on May 31, 2000. Hosted by Jeff Probst since the very beginning, it is credited by many as starting the reality show craze that has been a major part of TV this century. After being on the air for two decades, 20 of the most iconic champions returned in Season 40’s “Winners at War” to compete in the first-ever all-winners season. Following a temporary delay due to Covid-19, the reality TV show continued with even more twists and turns, plus more diversity amongst its cast members. Tour our updated “Survivor” winners list above (or click here for direct access) that highlights everyone from Season 1’s Richard Hatch to the most recent.

Survivor 50 rumors have already begun, thanks to Jeff Probst’s huge announcement.
A Survivor winner has also already teased his involvement and the inclusion of three additional former winners.
In case anyone hasn’t heard, Jeff helped host a new Survivor FYC event in California. It allowed fans to hear more about the show, play games based on challenges from Survivor, and spend time with other people who love the reality competition show.
Future seasons became a topic of conversation when Jeff was talking to the crowd. That’s when he started dropping teasers about what’s to come.
Survivor 46 episodes are still arriving this May on CBS, so several more seasons must debut before the show’s milestone 50th season.
Jeff Probst revealed Survivor 50 will feature returners, which got the crowd buzzing. That was also the case when a Survivor legend teased they were returning.

An original Survivor alum has passed away.
Sonja Christopher from the first season of Survivor has died.
Sonja was introduced to Survivor fans as a 63-year-old cancer Survivor from San Francisco. This was way back during Survivor: Borneo in 2000.
As part of the first Survivor cast, she was fun and known for strumming on her ukelele.
Unfortunately, Sonja was also the first person voted off Survivor, with the musician getting eliminated during the first-ever Survivor Tribal Council.
Her kindness shined through immediately, and it also led to an emotional response from host Jeff Probst when he had to snuff her torch.

Liz Wilcox from Survivor 46 shared a beautiful note about Sonja that revealed her recent passing.

CBS has released a bonus scene from Survivor 46. It comes from when the newly merged tribe came up with its name and painted the flag.
This scene was filmed on Day 15 of Survivor 46 before Tevin Davis got blindsided by the next Tribal Council vote.
It’s a drama-free scene that could have been good within an episode, but many scenes hit the cutting room floor each year.
The video also reveals what each castaway chose to represent them on the flag, with one person going a different route from everyone else.
When comparing this flag to hang-painted efforts from the past, the Survivor 46 cast certainly stands out. It’s a fun one.

Survivor 46 castaway Maria Gonzalez hasn’t been featured in many confessionals this season.
In reality television, confessionals are the moments where a cast member speaks one-on-one with the camera.
These moments help bridge the gaps in the story of an episode and provide a unique perspective from the players themselves.
Fans may have noticed that Maria hasn’t been featured in many of them. Maria shared a graphic on her social media page breaking down the times of each player.
It might surprise some viewers to learn that five people who were already voted out have received more confessional time than Maria.
Are the producers giving her an edit to hide her gameplay until later on? Or is she not creating enough drama to command screen time?

Survivor 46 has another chaotic episode in store for fans.
It will be difficult to top what happened during the previous episode when Q Burdette tossed a grenade during the Tribal Council debate.
Several plans for the vote had been tossed around, but Q then talked about falling on his sword and suggested that people vote him out.
Despite his willingness to be sent packing, the people working with Q had other ideas, and none of those ideas involved losing him as a vote.
Tevin Davis was eliminated on an 8-2 vote, with Tevin and Hunter McKnight as the rogue votes for Venus. It took the castaways down to only nine players competing for the $1 million prize.
With the cast cut in half, an important episode of Survivor 46 is slated to air on Wednesday, April 24.

Maryanne Oketch got married!
The Survivor 42 winner recently walked down the aisle with many alums in attendance.
It was during the Spring 2022 season that Survivor fans got to know Maryanne. She was highly energetic and outspoken, bringing a freshness to the reality competition show.
Many Survivor fans were shocked when Maryanne made it to the end of Survivor 42 after Romeo Escobar took her to that final Tribal Council.
Mike Turner defeated Jonathan Young in the Fire-Making Challenge, and then Maryanne beat Mike Turner on a 7-1 vote, taking home the $1 million prize for becoming the Sole Survivor. Remeo didn’t receive any votes.
While their season aired on CBS, Maryanne began dating a Survivor fan named Konner Howell. Maryanne and Konner then became engaged in October 2023.

“Survivor 46” contestant Kenzie Petty fully expects to be a social butterfly in Fiji because “getting along with people is [her] bread and butter.” The 29-year-old salon owner from North Carolina adds that the ability to “make someone feel special” is how she will coast to the million dollar prize. Watch their full CBS interview above.
Before Kenzie became a salon owner she was faced with two dream paths forward for herself: doing hair or “marrying a rich old dying man.” Now that she has her own business, she says she “gets to be my own rich man.” She explains that the “role of leadership” came to her early in her family life through living with a mother that struggles with mental illness, but in this experience she’s excited about the chance to play for herself.

After winning “Survivor 42” in May of 2022, Maryanne Oketch‘s life has been an absolute whirlwind. “I got engaged! So now I’m planning my wedding, which is hectic but fun,” she reveals as we recently caught up with her over Zoom. “Being a part of the ‘Survivor’ alumni community has been amazing. It’s the wildest thing ever. Like, Queen Sandra Diaz-Twine knew who I was and yelled my name across from a parking lot. That was the peak.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
As for what she thought of the most recent winner, Dee Valladares from “Survivor 45,” Maryanne calls her “amazing” and explains, “Dee played the game that I think a lot of us players wish that we played. Dominant the whole time, winning immunities, having a great social game, physical game, lying, doing all these cool moves. Oh my goodness! Dee played wonderfully and fully deserved the win.

Juveria Zaheer made the most of her return to Jeopardy! in December when she smashed through the competition to win the first finals of the Second Chance tournament. But she isn’t the only member of her family to have success on a popular game show. During her first Jeopardy! episode, which aired back on May 8, 2023, Juveria gave an impressive performance but came up short against super-champ Hannah Wilson. But it was during that episode when Juveria revealed to host Ken Jennings that her brother was an “evil mastermind” on Survivor. It’s true, Juveria’s brother is Omar Zaheer, who competed on Survivor 42 back in 2022. A veterinarian from Whitby, Ontario, Omar was considered one of the biggest strategic threats on the season and made it all the way to sixth place before he was blindsided by his ally and eventual winner, Maryanne Oketch. “Finally coming to terms with being...

One might think that “Survivor 45” has opened up now that the players found a way to finally oust their unanimous target Bruce Perreault, but a core four of original Reba tribe members could control the game through to the end. Drew Basile, Austin Li Coon, Julie Alley and Dee Valladares have remained strong as an alliance and have a majority four votes together while Katurah Topps and Jake O’Kane are remnants of a Belo tribe left in ruins and Emily Flippen fights for autonomy as the last standing Lulu player.
With idols still in pockets and players eager to leave their strategic mark on the competition, the game will either sail lazily on with Reba staying strong or it will swiftly open up on the heels of betrayal. Can Dee and Austin keep their group together or will Katurah and Emily find more cracks to expose? Below are our power...

The Wurtenberger brothers have taken over CBS reality TV shows.
Current “Big Brother 25” houseguest Cory Wurtenberger made a comment during the August 10 live show that may have confused casual viewers: “Beat you, Zach.” As it turns out, he was poking fun at his real-life big bro Zach Wurtenberger, who was the first person voted out of “Survivor 42.” By surviving his own show’s initial eviction, Cory has now lasted longer than Zach, so their family dinners will never be the same.
“F*** that guy,” Zach jokingly posted on social media immediately after Cory’s “Beat you, Zach” comment aired on CBS. He later wrote, “Look at that smug f***er,” when a fan posted a photo of Cory’s face. Talk about the ultimate sibling rivalry! Zach later changed his profile pictures to images of Hisam Goueli, one of Cory’s allies in the “BB25” house.

If you watched the first episode of “Big Brother 25,” you learned that one of the new houseguests, Jared Fields, is related to a “Survivor” legend, Cirie Fields, who later joined the show as the 17th player. However, Cory Wurtenberger also has a connection to a former “Survivor” castaway, but that relationship wasn’t revealed to viewers. At least, not yet.
Cory’s brother is Zach Wurtenberger, who was the first person voted out of “Survivor 42.” Zach is perhaps best remembered as being the fated love interest of eventual winner Maryanne Oketch. (Remember when she told Jeff Probst that Zach was “literally picture perfect” following his elimination?) After that season aired on CBS, the two jokingly changed their social media names to “Zach Oketch” and “Maryanne Wurtenberger.”

Following this week’s elimination of Danny Massa, the final six contestants of “Survivor 44” have been named, and four of them are women: Carolyn Wiger, Heidi Lagares-Greenblatt, Jaime Lynn Ruiz and Lauren Harpe. The other two remaining players are Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho and Carson Garrett, aka Carolyn’s fellow “three amigos” from the original Tika tribe. So will a woman win “Survivor 44”?
Since the new era of CBS’s reality TV show began with the Covid-delayed 41st season, two of the three winners have been female (Erika Casupanan in “Survivor 41” and Maryanne Oketch in “Survivor 42”), bucking the usual trend of men receiving the $1 million check. To date, 17 seasons of “Survivor” were won by women, compared to a whopping 26 cycles dominated by men. Last year, Mike Gabler was the champion of “Survivor 43,” the only...

Survivor has been on the air for over 20 years. Throughout that time, the show has introduced fans to numerous memorable contestants. Host Jeff Probst recently shared details about the casting process for Survivor, including how it has changed since the early days.

“Creed” fans have received one last peek at Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut during Super Bowl Lvii.
On March 3, Jordan will return as Adonis “Donnie” Creed in “Creed III,” marking the ninth installation of the “Rocky” franchise.
But Jordan’s Creed no longer has Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa by his side. While Stallone isn’t returning due to creative differences, Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad will reprise their roles as Creed’s girlfriend Bianca and stepmother Mary Anne, respectively. Jonathan Majors has joined the production as Anderson “Damian” Dame, a new rival to Creed.
The trailer teases how Adonis has since made peace with living up to the legacy of his late father, Apollo Creed. But as he embraces his independent career as Adonis, his past sneaks up on him yet again when Anderson (Majors) returns after an 18-year prison sentence. Netflix had a big year in 2022, surpassing more than 223 million paid streaming subscribers globally, and there’s plenty on tap in 2023 to be excited about — including new seasons of “You” and “Shadow and Bone.”
However, the streamer also saw its first subscriber loss in over a decade in its second quarter in April, prompting massive budget cuts and the loss of multiple TV projects over the course of this year.
Below is a recap of the major Netflix shows canceled in 2022, from beloved series to shows that hadn’t even aired yet.

On the December 14 season finale of “Survivor 43,” Mike Gabler won the 1 million grand prize by a 7-1-0 vote over Cassidy Clark and Owen Knight. The 52-year-old heart valve specialist from Meridian, Idaho played an under-the-radar game at the merge, particularly after Elisabeth “Elie” Scott called him out at tribal council as someone that should be targeted. Well, they didn’t listen to her, and now Gabler has become a millionaire — at least temporarily.
Gabler announced during the reunion show that he was going to “make history” on “Survivor” by donating his prize money to charity. “There are people that need that money more,” he explained to host Jeff Probst. “I’m going to donate the entire prize, the entire million dollars, in my father’s name Robert Gabler, who’s a Green Beret, to Veterans In Need.” The charity helps veterans who are dealing with psychiatric problems including Ptsd and curbs the suicide epidemic.

With only two weeks and six players left in “Survivor 43,” it’s time we dole out our final power rankings of the season. Left in the game are Karla Cruz Godoy and Cassidy Clark from original Coco, Jesse Lopez and Cody Assenmacher from original Vesi, and Owen Knight and Mike Gabler from original Baka. One of these six will be named “sole Survivor” on the season finale airing Wednesday, December 14.
In an era of “Survivor” where Jeff Probst has added more advantages into the game than ever, it’s hard to not take the extra powers into account when analyzing a player’s potential to win. Last season, Maryanne Oketch argued in her final tribal council speech that she kept a hidden immunity idol secret from everyone and was so well positioned in the game that she never had to use it. She won. Three idols are still floating around in the game,...

Film franchises get revisited all the time. Whether it's reboots, remakes, prequels, or legacy sequels, no classic movie is safe from resurrection. More often than not, you get the cynical brand extension of the "Jurassic World" series, which largely produced movies that feel like endless box-checking. However, there are times when a filmmaker takes the reins on a beloved series, less interested in revisiting it for simple nostalgia than examining and recontextualizing it, producing a new classic in the process. There's no better example than the 2015 film "Creed," a legacy sequel to the "Rocky" series.
"Creed" is a movie dealing intimately with themes of grief, legacy, perseverance, and identity. Director Ryan Coogler brought the visceral immediacy and naturalism (and star) of his low-budget 2013 debut "Fruitvale Station" to a beloved Hollywood series that was largely finished. 2006's "Rocky Balboa" was a belated conclusion to the story of its title character, largely...

Geo Bustamante couldn’t have been more excited to have secured himself the Knowledge Is Power advantage on “Survivor 43,” despite what he already (sorta) knew to be true: it’s a curse! Upon getting the advantage in Episode 5 he said, “This is what I came here for! I came to ‘Survivor’ to get an idol or to get an advantage. I’ve never seen anybody use the Knowledge Is Power successfully, but it’s a very powerful tool.” He went on to say he’d save it because he was certain he wouldn’t be voted out that night. Less than 15 minutes later, Geo was the fifth person voted out of the game.
With Geo’s finding of the advantage and subsequent elimination, he became the third of three players to hold the Knowledge Is Power advantage and not use it successfully. For Geo, finding the advantage wasn’t the curse,...

The castaways of “Survivor 43” have positioned themselves to set a new record next week — all they need to do is vote out a fifth woman in a row. So far the cast has only eliminated females: Morriah Young, Justine Brennan, Nneka Ejere and Lindsay Carmine were the first four players voted out, matching a franchise record. If they continue on this path and vote another woman out next week, they will go down in infamy as the record holders for longest succession of female eliminations to start a season. Yikes!
Luckily, as it stands in Gold Derby’s racetrack odds, the cast is not headed toward setting such a disastrous record. Instead, Geo Bustamante leads our current predictions to be eliminated in Episode 5 at 19/25. He is followed, however, by four women with decent odds to go: Cassidy Clark at 6/1 and Jeanine Zheng, Elisabeth ‘Elie’ Scott and Noelle Lambert all at...

Wednesday night on CBS, Jeff Probst officially lit the torch on the 43rd season of “Survivor.” Just like the last two cycles, this year’s crop of 18 contestants have been divided into three tribes and come from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. Few TV shows make it to Season 43. For every “60 Minutes” (54 seasons) and “Saturday Night Live” (47 seasons), there are hundreds, if not thousands, of television programs that are canceled or ended before they even make it to double digits. But “Survivor” just keeps going. Now the granddaddy of all reality TV shows is gearing up for its 43rd season (and 22nd year), due out in Fall 2022, with Jeff Probst back as host and executive producer. The most recent season, “Survivor 42,” was so captivating, it proves why the series deserves to reclaim its time in the Emmy spotlight.

We’re only a few weeks out from the “Survivor 42” finale where Maryanne Oketch clinched the 1 million prize arguably because of her Final Tribal Council revelation that she had kept the only secret in the game truly a secret: her unused hidden immunity idol. Jaws dropped on the jury and the players that may have otherwise been inclined to vote for Mike Turner to win instead chose Maryanne as the “sole Survivor.” Now, as we forward look to “Survivor 43” this fall, we want to know what you think about the advantages, twists and challenges currently at play in “Survivor” and which, if any, should stick around for the upcoming season.

From The CW bloodbath to some of our favorite dramas wrapping things up, we lost some quality television this year.
While it was great to see shows like This is Us leave on their own terms, not every series ended in a way that was satisfying to fans.
And some shows are still fighting for a second chance
We gathered a list of some of the shows we'll miss the most, in no particular order, for you to check out.
Let us know what you'll miss in the comments and if we missed any of your favorites.
The Baby-Sitters Club
The series was one of the few that featured preteen and young teen girls as they came of age and showed empowering stories as they ran their own business. It included real-life stories and modernized them from the novels, covering juvenile diabetes, parents' divorce and remarriage, death, and first love.

“Survivor 42” has come and gone and while some are celebrating Maryanne Oketch‘s victory, other fans believed that a different finalist should have won. Mike Turner ultimately received only one of the eight jury votes, but viewers are feeling much more generous to the 57-year-old firefighter, according to our latest fan poll. (Read our minute-by-minute recap of the season finale.)
When asked who really deserved to win “Survivor 42,” the support for Mike was overwhelming, collecting a whopping 65 of the vote. The New Jersey native played a strong social game, forming close bonds with numerous players over the course of the season, but some of them felt betrayed when he then went and voted them out. At Final Tribal Council, Mike initially tried to argue that he played an honorable game, but he eventually admitted that he didn’t play with as much integrity as he thought he did.

Over the years, “Survivor” viewers have grown accustomed to witnessing a unique treat in each season’s live finale. Self-described superfan Sia would attend the reunion shows in Hollywood and reward her favorite contestants with a special cash prize. Due to the pandemic, the show understandably scrapped all live aspects of its finale and instead opted to pre-tape the winner announcement and reunion on the island. That left fans wondering: what about Sia’s prize money?!

The tribe, er, actually, Sia has spoken. Though Maryanne Oketch took home the 1 million prize on Survivor season 42, the "Cheap Thrills" singer believes Drea Wheeler was the one to really outwit, outplay and outlast her fellow castaways. So, she surprised Drea with a 100,000 check. "You're an amazing woman," Sia told the shocked 35-year-old in a May 31 video shared on the CBS show's Twitter account. "You played the game, like, so smooth and your fire got put out way too early for my liking. And also the way you handled that situation at Tribal was so graceful and I just love you." But Sia wanted to offer Drea more than just kind words. "I want to give...

If you’ve been going through “Survivor” withdrawals ever since the finale aired last Wednesday, you’re in luck. CBS has released a deleted scene that takes place immediately after Lindsay Dolashewich was voted out on Night 24. To recap, Maryanne Oketch had a hidden immunity idol that she was going to play for herself to secure her spot in the Final 4, but she didn’t need to because Mike Turner gave her his idol instead. Maryanne briefly flirted with the idea of handing her own idol to Lindsay, but decided not to. How come? Watch the “Survivor 42” deleted scene above to find out.

Lindsay Dolashewich finished in fifth place on Survivor Season 42, the second-to-last player added to the jury. Jonathan Young joined her as the last member after losing the fire challenge to Mike Turner, leaving Maryanne Oketch, Romeo Escobar, and Mike in the Final Three. Of all the players in the Final Five, Lindsay was the only one who succeeded in all aspects of the game. She won individual challenges, made strong strategic moves, and played a solid social game. Unfortunately, that made her a target. And she wasn’t able to clinch a victory in the last immunity challenge, finishing her puzzle just seconds behind the victorious Mike. She later pleaded to Mike to protect her with his idol, which he ultimately played on Maryanne, leading to Lindsay being the final person voted out of Survivor Season 42. Here, Lindsay tells TV Insider all about those Hail Mary strategic moves in the...

Maryanne Oketch pulled off arguably the most exciting move of the season last week on “Survivor 42” when she orchestrated the ouster of Omar Zaheer. She successfully utilized her extra vote to take him out with the help of only one other person, Romeo Escobar, resulting in a 3-2-2 vote. Romeo and Jonathan Young received those four other votes, and while both made for safer options to boot, Maryanne ultimately risked it all and took out the biggest player left in the game.

In our recent poll results, which asked fans to pick who they think deserved to be voted out last week, Omar received a sizable 58 of all votes. With the 30-year-old veterinarian secretly calling the shots for multiple post-merge votes, it only came to light after the previous Tribal Council that he was emerging as the biggest threat to win.

All season long, Gold Derby readers have been making their predictions about who they think will win “Survivor 42,” and things are looking good for Maryanne Oketch to take home the 1 million grand prize. The 24-year-old seminary student from Ajax, Ontario leads our finale racetrack odds at 2/9, far ahead of our second place competitor, Lindsay Dolashewich, who trails at 23/2 odds. If our users are correct that Maryanne will prevail, she would become only the second Black female winner in the show’s 42-season history, following Vecepia Towery in Season 4.
Here are Gold Derby’s “Survivor 42” winner predictions ahead of the May 25 season finale on CBS.
1. Maryanne Oketch — 2/9 odds
2. Lindsay Dolashewich — 23/2 odds
3. Jonathan Young — 16/1 odds
4. Mike Turner — 22/1 odds

All season long, Jonathan Young has provided his fellow tribe mates with food as the island’s resident fisherman-hunter-gatherer. However, with just days left to go in the game, the 29-year-old Alabama resident is starting to get annoyed that the players are forgetting “how they got the food” he’s been providing on a regular basis. Watch the “Survivor 42” deleted scene above and then be sure to tune in to the season finale on May 25 on CBS.
The scene in question takes place on Day 22 after Omar Zaheer wins the reward challenge and decides to take Romeo Escobar, Maryanne Oketch and Mike Turner with him on a chocolate cake date. “Obviously I’m not one that he chose,” Jonathan tells the camera. “I mean, I helped Omar through a lot, but that doesn’t mean that he’s gonna return the favor because it’s not about our relationship, it’s about the game.
