- J. Fred Muggs was born on March 14, 1952 in French Cameroon. He is an actor, known for Tom Corbett, Space Cadet (1950), Dear Phoebe (1954) and Perry Como's Kraft Music Hall (1948).
- He was brought on as "co-host' of the "Today" show in 1953, after the show's initial reviews and TV ratings turned out to be poor. Immediately, the show's ratings shot up, as many children became interested in seeing the show because of Fred Muggs. This motivated many parents to buy TV sets, and the "Today" show became a hit.
