Stepping onto the set of writer/director H.M. Coakley’s horror whodunit Hollaback last year on December 18th, the first few things that became readily apparent were the blood trail which serpentined across the wood flooring of the 130-year-old Los Angeles Antebellum mansion (doubling for the deep South) and the flick’s ‘token white chick,’ who came in the form of actress Allison Kyler. The third was the abundance of enthusiasm for the production which was mirrored by cast and crew alike.
Arriving to set on day eleven of fifteen and greeted by Hollaback associate producer and casting director Venk Modur, we conducted the majority of our hushed interviews against the aural backdrop of screams and whimpering as writer and director Coakley led his cast through the film’s scripted carnage.
“It is a sequel,” said Modur of Hollaback, which serves as a follow-up to filmmaker Coakley’s 2006 feature Holla...

The Inheritance is an urban horror movie that follows five cousins, Karen (Golden Brooks), Henry (D.B. Woodside), Tyrone (Darrin Dewitt Henson), Lily (Rochelle Aytes), and Simpson (Shawn Michael Howard) on a “family reunion” type gathering to find out about their inheritance they will be receiving. Naturally it’s a horror movie so things start to go wrong for them after they arrive at the house, in the dead of winter and in the middle of nowhere. They find out things about their ancestors that they end up wishing would have just stayed a secret.
Their uncle Melvin (Keith David) plays host to the small group, there’s a party, people getting hammered and some begin to die. We see some crazy tribal shadows appear at times which are really creepy at times. Blood gets splattered and like I said before, more people die. Other relatives also show up and stories...

A bit of an update to last week's story as Jon Amiel (Creation, Copy Cat) will be directing the supernatural thriller Undying starring Kurt Russell. Production is set to begin in autumn on the flick, a neo-noir in the vein of Blade Runner and Seven about a private investigator drawn into a surreal underworld by a mysterious client. Media 8 is producing from a screenplay by Gary Whitta. "The type of magic that occurs when you combine a legendary actor like Kurt Russell with a visionary director like Jon Amiel is what attracted us to the business in the first place," Queen Nefertari Productions COO Lanre Idewu said. "We are in for a real treat."...

Recall Cynthia Stafford and her Queen Nefertari Productions – the African American lady who won over $100 million in her state’s lottery, and opted to use $30 million of the money to start a film production company… if you missed my post on that, read it Here.
We’ve been tracking her progress since the initial announcement of her production company’s creation, and so far, while I haven’t been too thrilled about some of the choices she’s made in her selection of projects to invest in, I can’t hate either. She’s trying to grow her company, and, with a supporting cast of industry-types advising her, I assume she’s making decisions that she feels will contribute to that end.
Most recently, we reported about the deals she made at the Sundance Film Festival – including one with the Butcher Brothers (actual names: Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores) and their gory exploitation horror feature,...

How awesome is Kurt Russell? He's so awesome I had to dedicate two articles on how manly he is and how his movies have been some the greatest cult classics to ever hit the big screen. We haven't seen Kurt in a few years since he played Stuntman Mike in Death Proof. I had thought that maybe he had retired from acting so he could slap his daughter around for sleeping with A-Rod, but it appears as if Kurt is coming back after all to star in a supernatural thriller called "Undying".THR has more:cannes -- Media 8 Entertainment has recruited Kurt Russell to star in its supernatural thriller "Undying."The neo-noir creeper, penned by "Book of Eli" scribe Gary Whitta and originally titled "Reaper," tells the story of private investigator Virgil Lone, who gets pulled into a surreal underworld when he is hired by the mysterious Delia. I may be jumping the gun here, but so be it…
In a Facebook post by Lanre Idewu just moments ago, he stated that he was on his way to a “meeting with Oscar winning writer Geoffrey Fletcher,” in Los Angeles, although he didn’t detail the specs of the meeting. He did further say, “Maybe we’ll produce his next movie…” Hint… hint.
If I didn’t mention it before, Lanre Idewu is a senior executive with Queen Nefertari Productions, the newly formed film production company created by Cynthia Stafford, the black lady who won over $100 million in her state’s lottery, and opted to use $30 million of that money to start a the film company (if you missed my post on that, read it Here. And also read Here for a follow-up “Deals” post involving the company while at Sundance earlier this year).

Park City -- Cynthia Stafford and her Queen Nefertari Prods. are cozying up to the Butcher Bros.
The pulpy low-budget auteurs -- actual names: Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores -- have written and will direct the psychological horror feature "Black Sunset" for Queen Nefertari, which will package and finance. Altieri and Flores are about to let loose their latest horror exploitation effort, "The Violent Kind," at the Sundance Film Festival, which will premiere the film Monday as part of the genre-focused Park City at Midnight section.
"Sunset" will follow seven friends on a surf trip to Mexico that turns into something that these jaunts often tend to in horror films: a gory, betrayal-filled nightmare. In "Violent Kind," second-generation outlaw bikers retire to a secluded cabin to party only to end up on a drug-and-death bender.
Jeremy Platt and Andy Gould will produce "Black Sunset," which is scheduled to start production in the summer.
