As Superman is once again set to reach the big screens with David Corenswet donning the suit, fans are excited to see what this iteration brings to the table. The Kryptonian has numerous abilities that make him one of the most powerful beings in the universe. However, James Gunn’s Dcu has added one Justice League member to the new Superman movie, who is immune to one of the Man of Steel’s unique abilities.

DC Comics character ‘Metamorpho’ aka ‘Rex Mason’, a man made of a shifting mass of chemicals, is played by actor Anthony Carrigan, in the upcoming live-action feature “Superman”:
“…created in 1965 by writer Bob Haney and illustrator Ramona Fradon, ‘Rex Mason’ is an adventurer…
‘…who is hired by ‘Stagg Enterprises’ to retrieve a rare Egyptian artifact, the ‘Orb of Ra’.
“Shortly after hiring him, company CEO ‘Simon Stagg’ learns that Mason has been dating his daughter, ‘Sapphire Stagg’. This and other incidents begin to fuel in Stagg a dislike for Mason that ultimately leads in a plot to kill him.
“ In an Egyptian pyramid, Mason is knocked unconscious by Stagg’s bodyguard ‘Java’ and deliberately exposed to a radioactive meteorite that is the source of the Orb of Ra, transforming him into ‘Metamorpho, the Element Man’.
“He gains the ability to shapeshift and change himself into any element or combination...

“I’m still preparing,” Rachel Brosnahan said Saturday on the SAG Awards red carpet about her big role as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s DC movie Superman: Legacy.
“I’m talking to some journalists, I’m reading a lot of comics — so many I hadn’t read before,” added the actress. “It’s been really fun to dig into this universe.”
Watch the conversation below.
Deadline’s chat with Brosnahan on the red carpet tonight comes in the wake of Gunn assembling the entire cast for a photo at the first script reading in Atlanta earlier this week. One of the big surprises was seeing Nicholas Hoult having already shaved head for his turn as Lex Luthor.
A big deal for Brosnahan during that get-together: “I got to see the suit — and I was blown away!,” said. Suit, meaning not Lane’s but rather the Man of Steel’s...

Ramona Fradon, a comics artist for more than 70 years, has died at 97. She retired just last month. Fradon’s death was shared by Catskill Comics, a comic book art dealer, on Facebook.
She began her career in 1950, beginning to work for DC Comics early on. She’s best known as an artist on “Aquaman” and cocreator of the superhero Metamorpho, set to be played by “Barry” actor Anthony Carrigan in James Gunn’s forthcoming “Superman: Legacy” next year.
Catskill Comics posted, “It comes with great sadness to announced that Ramona Fradon has passed away a few moments ago. Ramona was 97 and had a long career in the comic book industry and was still drawing just a few days ago.”

At long last, the trailer for "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is here, giving us a glimpse of the further adventures of Arthur Curry aka Aquaman (Jason Momoa). I recently got to attend a Q&a with director James Wan who spoke about the film, including something I'm certain a bunch of you are excited for. You may have noticed a second passenger on Aquaman's (Jason Momoa) giant seahorse in the recent teaser trailer. Yes, friends, that is indeed Topo the drum-playing octopus from the first film. In case you were wondering, Entertainment Weekly confirmed that the seahorse is Aquaman's comic book transportation buddy Storm.
According to Wan, we'll be getting a lot of creatures in the new film, and Topo is not only one of them, but our eight-legged musician is getting a bigger role this time around. If you don't know him from the comics, Topo the Octopus,...

The Dcu is getting some new additions, because after finding his Clark Kent and Lois Lane, director James Gunn has also found another hero for his new cinematic universe, Metamorpho who will be played by ‘Barry’ actor Anthony Carrigan in ‘Superman Legacy’.
Following his Emmy nomination for ‘Barry’, Carrigan, who has alopecia, had an interest in playing Metamorpho even before he got the role.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter he said: “I like comic books, but I’m not a diehard, but I did when all my hair fell out, go through the kind of pantheon of all of these bald superheroes and supervillains and made note of all of them.”
He added: “I remember seeing Metamorpho and I think he had a giant hammer for a hand and I was like, that guy’s badass. Noted. We’ll store that one away.”

Anthony Carrigan had much to celebrate on Wednesday. Not only did he earn a third Emmy nomination for his work on “Barry,” but he’s been cast as the character Metamorpho in James Gunn’s upcoming DC reboot “Superman: Legacy.”
“I’m so pumped,” Carrigan told TheWrap about working with Gunn. “I’ve been really excited to work with James for a while now. I think James is one of those few directors that has the magic touch that can take difficult source material and just elevate it and make it so watchable and magical and so fun to watch. I’m excited to collaborate and bring my spark to it and just light it all up.”

DC Extended Universe is counting down its last months of existence, as it’s set to officially end this December with its 15th and final movie, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’ Even though Dceu has two movies left to be released, the fans are already looking forward to July 2025, when James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ will start a new cinematic universe based on DC characters.
‘Superman: Legacy’ is currently in active pre-production, and writer/director James Gunn announced that filming is set to start in January 2024. The ongoing WGA strike has not affected the movie’s development since Gunn turned in the screenplay just before the strike began. It was previously announced that David Corenswet would star as the new Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane.

James Gunn seems to be packing Superman: Legacy full of heroes. THR reports that Anthony Carrigan, best known for his exemplary work on HBO’s Barry, has joined the cast of Superman: Legacy as Metamorpho, a hero who can “transmute elements in his body into various forms, taking those properties on as powers.“
Metamorpho was created by Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon in 1965. Also known as Rex Mason, the character was originally an archeologist, but later became a detective and a founding member of The Outsiders after gaining his abilities. The eclectic look of the character and his unique powers are exactly the type that James Gunn loves to work with. Playing Metamorpho in Superman: Legacy will be the biggest movie Anthony Carrigan has taken on, but it’s not like the actor is unknown. His work on the final season of Barry recently scored him an...

After finding his Clark Kent and Lois Lane, James Gunn is moving furiously to populate his Metropolis with a bevy of other DC heroes for Superman: Legacy.
Anthony Carrigan, fresh off an Emmy nomination for his standout work in HBO’s Barry, has been cast as classic DC character Metamorpho, aka archeologist-turned-hero Rex Mason. He joins the feature that will formally launch DC’s new universe under filmmaker Gunn and his DC Studios co-boss Peter Safran.
Also on the call sheet are Isabela Merced, playing Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific; and Gunn stalwart Nathan Fillion as macho Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Those castings were announced Tuesday.
The deals are being made in the shadow of a looming actors strike. A SAG-AFTRA strike could commence as early as midnight Pt July 12, and if that were to happen, any negotiations between representatives and studios would stop like a speeding bullet...

Riverdale star Kj Apa and 1883 actress Isabel May have nabbed the alien sibling lead roles in the HBO Max live action DC comedy The Wonder Twins.
Apa will play Zan, and May will portray Jayna.
While the plotline is under wraps, Jayna is known for her talent of transforming into an animal, while Zan is a shapeshifter of sorts. The two made their debut on The All-New Super Friends Hour from Hanna-Barbera and then appeared in The World’s Greatest Super Friends, Super Friends, and Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show. Their history: the duo are from the planet Exxor who were being informally trained by the DC superheroes. In a 1977 Super Friends comic book from E. Nelson Bridwell and artist Ramona Fradon, it’s further detailed that the twins were orphaned during a plague and adopted by the alien Exorians. Along the way, they’re given Gleek as a pet.

This past weekend was the Big Apple Convention at New York City’s famed Hotel Pennsylvania. Fellow ComicMix columnist Molly Jackson joined me in attending this show as she has for the past four years now. Boy, time really does fly, huh?
The Big Apple Con is a show I’ve been going to for many years. For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is a con run by Mike “Carbo” Carbonaro who has had more close calls with retirement than Cher. I don’t *think* he was retiring this time, but I could be wrong.
Anyway, his shows tend to attach some big names from the old guard in comics like Jim Steranko and Ramona Fradon, as well as young up and comers like Mindy Indy and Stan Chou. In the past I’ve gotten to meet people like Herb Trimpe, who is no longer with us, George Pérez,...

The other day at a comic shop I saw a flier for the upcoming Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! #1. It was advertised having writer Kate Leth and artist Brittney Williams attached. I think it’s great that the two of them are on this book, as I enjoy the work they’ve put out over at Boom! Studios. However, it did start getting me thinking about the direction the comic industry is going. A direction that it may not want to go in.
We’ve seen the big two added more books with a woman lead. This has been great. A lot of them have at least one woman creator attached as well. We should absolutely be thrilled by that and support those efforts.
Just off the top of my head I can think of Amy Reeder on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Kelly Sue Deconnick’s recent Captain Marvel run,...

In the early 1970s, when I was in college, I went to hear Gloria Steinem speak. The modern version of the feminism movement was still in its early stages. My memory of the talk is fuzzy, but I remember her recounting the reaction of men on the left to women’s issues:
“She walks! She talks! She gets down on there belly and slithers like a snake! It’s – a woman who thinks!”
That quote kept coming to my mind while watching She Makes Comics, a terrific new documentary directed by Marisa Stotter. I say “terrific” because it is a thorough overview of women who have worked in the comics industry, from newspaper strips to cosplay costumers. To quote from the promotional material: “Featuring dozens of interviews with such vital figures as Ramona Fradon, Trina Robbins, Joyce Farmer, Karen Berger, Kelly Sue DeConnick, and Becky Cloonan, She Makes Comics is...

Director: Marisa Stotter; Featuring: Karen Berger, Gail Simone, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Jenette Kahn, Becky Cloonan, Colleen Doran, Wendi Pini, Kate Leth, Raina Telgemeier, Marjorie Liu, Louise Simonson, Heidi MacDonald; Running time: 110 mins
The issues faced by women in comics are perennial but have been particularly visible in recent years - whether it is in terms of people speaking out about poor treatment, creators and fans saying appalling things or, on better days, representation and inclusion actually improving in the industry.
There's a whole lot to say on the matter, and today (December 9) director Marisa Stotter's documentary She Makes Comics has arrived to have its say.
The film has done a fantastic job of representing the new and old guard of comics, with interviewees including Jenette Kahn, Louise Simonson, Colleen Doran, Wendi Pini, Kate Leth, Becky Cloonan, Raina Telgemeier, Marjorie Liu, journalist Heidi MacDonald and many more.

In 1973, as most super-hero series faded from Saturday morning memory, ABC introduced the Justice League of America under the more kid friendly name Super Friends. Until 1986 the series evolved but continued to be a network fixture with one series break, absent the 1984-1984 season. It was at that point production company Hanna-Barbera had enough episodes stockpiled that they could offer them as a syndicated package that could be stripped, that is, run five days a week. ABC dropped the series that fateful season as opposed to being in theoretical competition with itself. H-b, though, continued to produce 24 more shorts, or eight half-hours worth of programming which aired on schedule in Australia and was later sprinkled in the Superman/Batman Adventures, which ran on USA starting in 1995.
Now, for the first time, Warner Home Video has collected these “lost” episodes on a two-disc set, coming this Tuesday.
They could have saved themselves the trouble.
