Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw in ‘Tracker’ episode 8
CBS’s Tracker season one episode eight finds Colter (Justin Hartley) heading to Camden, Maine to take on the case of a missing dockworker named Ethan Sullivan. Sully’s fiancée, Daniella, is offering a $10,000 reward.
Sully’s been missing for two days, and the police haven’t come up with any clues to his disappearance. Colter wonders if Sully just got cold feet, and Velma (Abby McEnany) and Teddi (Robin Weigert) suggest he keep an open mind.
Colter speaks with Daniella and learns Sully’s smart and wants to get off the docks. Daniella’s parents stress the wedding is in two weeks, so they need answers now. They have already spent a lot of money, and now they need to come up with a $10,000 reward. The timing’s not great.
Daniella reveals Sully uses an old flip phone and its battery always dies.

Everybody loves a good procedural, right?
The drama, the cases, the suspense — there's something for everyone, and every week brings something new.
That doesn't mean the genre doesn't have a host of problems that newcomers to the scene should be aware of.
If new shows like Tracker want to succeed in competition with procedurals that have been on the air for years, they'll need to set themselves apart.
But how can Tracker's writers avoid some of the common complaints that get lobbed at procedural TV shows?
Invest in Character Development
One of the biggest issues fans have with procedural dramas is the lack of character development. Every episode brings something new to the show, leaving little time for the show's stars to shine.
Tracker has introduced several dynamic characters already, each of whom shows great potential. If the writers allow enough time for it, there's a ton of opportunity for...

One of the nice things about Tracker is seeing Colter's compassion each week.
When the series began, it wasn't wholly clear whether Colter was just looking for a payday by using the skills he had acquired over time or if he genuinely cared about people and wanted to help, all while collecting a paycheck.
Tracker Season 1 Episode 5 was further proof that it's not this or that with Colter necessarily, and at the end of the day, he's someone who wants to do what's right.
Poor Colter couldn't even get some me-time in before he was needed on another case, but that's the state of the world, right? Over 2,000 people are reported missing every day, and most of those people don't have people who can offer up thousands of dollars for their safe return.

After Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall powered its way to five Oscar nominations, it was a common feeling that the film’s Mvp was short-changed on the big night. Though the film went home with Best Original Screenplay, Messi — the seven-year-old border collie who plays Snoop, the family dog who becomes an integral part of the courtroom drama — was not so lucky, returning empty-pawed to his native Paris. Not that he was an ungracious loser; a clip of the hound applauding Robert Downey Jr.’s win for Oppenheimer went viral, not least because it brought a huge spontaneous smile to the face of Barbie’s Ryan Gosling.
Being modest, Messi downplayed the fact that earlier in the day he had stolen the show at the Fido Awards in London, an awards ceremony that recognizes the work put in by canine thespians from around the world. From the same...

Coming off an installment heavy on relating the latest mystery to Colter's personal life, this hour gave his family drama a rest in favor of an old-fashioned mystery.
Tracker Season 1 Episode 3 found Colter in a small lakeside town where everyone was Very upset about the possibility of something terrible happening to someone when there are future timeshares to be sold!
It was bad luck for them that Colter found himself in the right place at the right time.
While the pilot posed the question about Colter's job and whether or not he was merely just a mercenary or someone who cared about the cases he took, the first two hours have done a lot to show that Colter isn't someone only taking cases for a paycheck.
He's got a tremendous amount of knowledge and understanding, especially regarding the great outdoors, which aids him in his pursuit of missing people.

Bradley Stryker and Justin Hartley in ‘Tracker’ episode 3
Colter (Justin Hartley) heads to the sleepy little town of Springland on the way to a job as CBS’s Tracker episode three gets underway. After a brief check-in with Velma (Abby McEnany), Teddi (Robin Weigert), and their adorable Corgi about his next job locating a vintage Shelby Cobra, Colter pops into a restaurant for a quick bite.
There’s a bit of a ruckus in the restaurant when diners spot a woman leaving flyers on the cars in the parking lot. A waitress warns him not to get involved, but of course, Colter doesn’t listen. He steps in as a male diner confronts the woman, and the angry dude decides a verbal warning isn’t enough. He pulls out a knife and slits Colter’s front tire.
The man’s friends arrive to back him up, and he mistakenly believes that Colter will stop interfering.

The specter of Ashton Shaw was hanging heavy over this one.
Colter’s father has proven to be quite the major player over the first two hours of this new series, with Colter taking on a new case that had his father heavy on his brain.
And while the case of the week on Tracker Season 1 Episode 2 wasn’t anything to write home about, it did further the lore that is the Shaw family mystery, which again seems to be the strongest thing going for this action-adventure which continues to be light on the action.
While Colter’s deep-rooted family issues were lingering under the surface during the hour, the job this week was to extract a man from a cult he had no intention of leaving.
If that sounds like a difficult task, it surely was.

CBS’s Tracker premiered after the Super Bowl, a time slot that usually benefits from having the Big Game as a lead-in. Unfortunately, this year’s Super Bowl went into overtime, which meant episode one was delayed on the East Coast until 11pm. After the ratings were revealed, it turned out the late start did not affect viewership, with the series premiere bringing in 18.4 million viewers. That makes Tracker the most-watched primetime entertainment program after the Super Bowl since 2021’s debut of The Equalizer.
Episode two, “Missoula,” settles into the series’ regular time slot, airing on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt. Justin Hartley leads the cast as Colter Shaw, Fiona Rene plays Reenie Green, and Robin Weigert is Teddi. Abby McEnany stars as Velma and Eric Graise is Bobby Exley.
“Missoula” Plot: Colter tracks down a missing young man who has been pulled into a deadly cult and doesn’t want to be found.

There are many detective shows out there already. So how is Tracker different? Well, the show’s protagonist, a man named Colter Shaw, plays a ‘tracker’ in the show who puts his life in danger to locate or track down things and people. He gets a reward for this service, making him a rehashed version of a bounty hunter in the contemporary world. He gets called all sorts of names, ‘mercenary’ being one of them, but he prefers ‘rewardist’. But Colter avoids killing anyone if he can help it. Surprisingly, there are a lot of people who want his services, as there are many who are looking for lost things. Colter has a checkered past, which is one of the reasons he has become a tracker.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Tracker series premiere “Klamath Falls.”] “You’re going to survive.” Those are the first words we hear from Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley), a lone-wolf reward seeker who goes around helping solve mysteries, including finding missing people, in the Tracker series premiere (which scored the post-Super Bowl slot). And sure, he cares about finding these people and doesn’t collect his fee until the job is a success, but he does make sure to get that reward. His first investigation, courtesy of his handlers Velma (Abby McEnany) and Teddi (Robin Weigert), a couple who may or may not have too many dogs (depending who you ask): 14-year-old Gil, whose mother thinks he ran off with his birth father (who has a past with drugs). Justin Hartley is back on primetime television in a role that is perfect for him.
Fresh off six seasons of the beloved NBC hit This Is Us, Hartley steps into another starring role, this time a CBS vehicle that is all drama, action, and a healthy dose of mystery.
While there's a lot to work through during Tracker Season 1 Episode 1, the pilot does a tremendous job of introducing Colter Shaw, whose personal story may be the ace in the hole this series needs to set it apart.

If the credits roll and you have no interest in seeing what happens next, then the series didn't do its job.

When it was originally announced that CBS was doing a series based on the main character from Jeffrey Deaver’s novel The Never Game, it was called The Never Game, which made sense.
Several months later, CBS announced that the series, created by Ben H. Winters, was changing its title to Tracker, a name that I rather consistently confuse with Amazon’s Lee Child series, Reacher.
This also makes sense and, in fact, borders on ideal for CBS. With Reacher following recent streaming protocol and producing eight-episode seasons that can air “whenever the pieces come together,” there is probably an audience appetite for a cut-rate version — a series that delivers a lot of the same lizard-brain pleasures on a broadcast schedule capable of producing 15 or even 22 episodes of lone-wolf vigilante justice in easily digestible 41-minute weekly morsels.
So if you accept that Tracker isn’t exactly Reacher 2.0, but it’s...

Chita Rivera, the sultry singer, dancer and actress who commanded the Broadway stage for more than a half-century, has died. She was 91.
Rivera died peacefully in New York on Tuesday, following a brief illness, her daughter, Lisa Mordente, shared in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
Known for her long, sleek legs, smoldering green eyes and lusty singing voice, the two-time Tony Award winner originated some of musical theater’s most iconic characters.
When West Side Story bowed in 1957, it was Rivera singing about life in America as the fiery Puerto Rican transplant Anita. As Rose Grant, the long-suffering girlfriend of songwriter Albert Peterson, Rivera received top billing over Dick Van Dyke in 1960’s Bye Bye Birdie. In 1975, she made the stage sizzle with “All That Jazz” as Velma Kelly in Chicago. And the 1993 musical adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman put her in the spotlight as the sexy Spider Woman.
