Magnum and Higgins uncovered a personal question they needed to answer while conducting a missing-person investigation.
Fortunately, that didn't slow them down during a complicated case on Magnum P.I. Season 5 Episode 15.
Also, the couple got to experience the added wrinkles that technology could throw at them.
In what had to be a first for them, they held a virtual meeting with three clients scattered across Continental North America, three aficionados of the online game Battlecraft.
The trio reported that another of their number, Oahu-based gamer Artie, had gone missing, and they were concerned for his welfare.
Not surprisingly, Hpd wasn't willing to investigate an unresponsive gamer who hadn't picked up for only a couple of days. He hardly qualified as a missing person. Hence Thomas and Juliet's involvement.
Making things more difficult was that none of their clients knew the real name for Artie, an abbreviation of his lengthy gamer name,...

Jon M. Chu's 2018 romantic comedy "Crazy Rich Asians" -- based on the novel by Kevin Kwan -- was a massive, massive hit. Made for only $30 million, Chu's lightweight puffball grossed $239 million worldwide. It follows the adventures of a young economics professor named Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) who has been enjoying her romantic relationship with the dash-handsome Nick Young (Henry Golding). Nick is called back to his home country of Singapore to attend a wedding, and Rachel is reluctantly invited along. Reluctantly, because Nick has been trying to keep his vast wealth hidden from Rachel. It seems his family is practically royalty in Singapore, inviting new conversations about honesty and their inescapable class divide into their relationship. Also, Nick's family doesn't necessarily approve of a middle-class woman dating one of their own, and some of them accuse Rachel of being a golddigger.

The SAG-AFTRA strike, a wild card throughout the fall festival season, has created a closing stretch of the New York Film Festival unlike many (any?) of its 60 previous editions.
The final NYFF press conference this morning featured Ferrari cast members Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Gabriel Leone alongside writer-director Michael Mann discussing the Closing Night selection.
The presence of talent onstage at Walter Reade Theater, thanks to an interim agreement for publicity obtained by distributor Neon before the film’s August 31 world premiere in Venice, offered a welcome dose of the familiar. Not only was the stage picture a recognizable one, but the themes of the conversation all covered well-established terrain. Topics included the film’s production in Italy, Mann’s decades-long quest to get it made and the cast’s exhaustive research.
Cruz said her character, Laura Ferrari, “was even more involved [in the auto company] than we see here.

It’s not often prestigious organizations invite damnation, misfortune, or any kind of bad luck onto themselves — let alone their renowned festival and its thousands of guests — but for Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie, exceptions will be made.
“The Curse” held its world premiere at the New York Film Festival Thursday night, with both co-creators in attendance for the first TV series to ever premiere at NYFF. Fielder, Safdie, and Emma Stone (who did not attend) executive produce and co-star in Showtime’s upcoming black comedy — about a trio of creatives behind an aspiring HGTV home-renovation series — which had audiences laughing and gasping throughout the three-hour screening.
Dennis Lim, the festival’s artistic director, did warn the crowd (as best he could) during his opening remarks.
“[‘The Curse’] is as brilliant, wild, perverse, hilarious, uncomfortable, and anxiety-inducing as you’d expect,” he said, alluding to Fielder and Safdie’s previous works.

Up until Thursday night, New York Film Festival had never once featured a TV show on its annual premiere lineup, so when Benny Safdie approached NYFF artistic director Dennis Lim with a new series he created alongside Nathan Fielder, the likelihood that it would get a big-screen premiere was low.
“[Benny] was like, ‘Why don’t you take a look and see what you think?'” Lim recalled at the series’ NYFF world premiere at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on Thursday night, where Safdie and Fielder were in attendance. “So he sent me three episodes, I watched them right away and I said, ‘I need to see more.’ By the time I got to Episode 5 or 6, I called Benny and said ‘We need to figure out how to make this work.'”

The New York Film Festival is set to close with the North American premiere of Michael Mann’s Ferrari, it was announced Thursday.
The screening of the Neon film starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz will take place on Oct. 13 at Alice Tully Hall.
The Enzo Ferrari biopic stars Driver as the racecar manufacturer and entrepreneur as he deals with professional and personal struggles in 1957. His marriage to wife Laura (Cruz) is struggling amid his philandering and the tragic recent death of their young son. Meanwhile, Driver’s Ferrari faces pressure to increase production as he prepares for the dangerous Mille Miglia race.
“Dovetailing these narrative strands, Mann effortlessly shifts gears between elegiac and spectacular, climaxing in an exhilarating and terrifying race across the Northern Italian landscape — a visual and aural wonder of revving machinery against bucolic splendor — that ranks with the greatest set pieces of the director’s career,...

Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” will serve as the 2023 New York Film Festival’s Centerpiece Selection this fall, marking the drama’s North American premiere. NYFF and Film at Lincoln Center announced Thursday that the Priscilla Presley biopic will screen at Alice Tully Hall in New York City on Oct. 6.
Stepping back from pop culture’s singular focus on Elvis Presley, Coppola’s film centers on Priscilla Ann Wagner, Presley’s love and lone wife, from the point of view of the woman herself. Based on Priscilla’s 1985 memoir “Elvis and Me” (cowritten with Sandra Harmon), “Priscilla” follows the eponymous businesswoman’s life as a teenage army brat in West Germany, her whirlwind courtship with Elvis and her ultimate arrival at Graceland, the palatial estate where she was queen to the King of Rock ’n’ Roll. It feels like just yesterday when Shaun Murphy was a first-year medical resident who had to prove that his autism wouldn't interfere with his ability to be a surgeon.
But it's been six years, and as of The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 22, Shaun is now a first-time father and attending physician at St. Bonaventure.
That's right -- The Good Doctor Season 7 is on its way, and we have info to share!
The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 22 ended on a high note, with Shaun holding his baby for the first time and naming him Steven Aaron after his brother and Dr. Glassman -- the latter of whom refused to come in to meet the baby.
That means there's potential for plenty of new-parent drama alongside the usual medical storylines when The Good Doctor continues.

Todd Haynes’ new film “May December” will open the 61st New York Film Festival on Sept. 29, Film at Lincoln Center announced Tuesday. The opening will mark the film’s North American debut. The director and cast, which includes Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore and Charles Melton, will attend the screening.
“May December” had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it was warmly received and acquired by Netflix. Written by first-time screenwriter Samy Burch, the dark comedy is Haynes’ first narrative film since 2019’s “Dark Waters.” It stars Portman as Elizabeth, a TV actor who travels to Savannah to study Gracie (Moore), whom she will portray onscreen and who, along with her significantly younger husband Joe (Melton), was once a target for tabloids. Elizabeth attempts to immerse herself in their lives to fully understand what made them such irresistible tabloid fodder. According to the press release, “As...

It’s the middle of July, and cinephiles are already looking to September for “May December.”

The film premiered earlier this year at Cannes and will make its New York City premiere September 29 to usher in the 61st New York Film Festival (NYFF).
Haynes’ 10th feature film and fifth with lead actress Moore, “May December” centers on a “Persona”-esque dynamic between Oscar winners Moore and Portman. Per the official synopsis, Elizabeth (Portman), a popular television star, has arrived in a tight-knit island community in Savannah. Here, she will be doing intimate research for a new part, ingratiating herself into the lives of Gracie (Moore), whom she’ll be playing onscreen, and her much younger husband, Joe (Charles Melton), to better understand the psychology and circumstances that...

Todd Haynes’ May December will open the New York Film Festival on September 29, organizers said today.
The film had its world premiere in Cannes and its North American rights were acquired by Netflix for $11 million after an all-night bidding war. New York will host the film’s North American premiere as the kickoff to its 61st edition. Haynes and members of the cast headed by Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore are expected to be in attendance.
While the New York fest has sometimes opened with major world premieres like The Irishman in 2019, its DNA as a “festival of festivals” based in a media-rich city has led it to program plenty of non-premiere openers. The 2022 fest opened with White Noise, which had world-premiered in Venice. Even after an opening night featuring an established festival title, this year’s NYFF is likely feature quite a few world premieres during the course of its 17-day run.

After proving that Asian actors were more than capable of carrying a movie to a massive box office haul with “Crazy Rich Asians” (which she co-wrote), Lim went in a much raunchier direction for her directorial debut. Her SXSW hit “Joy Ride,” which follows a group of four messy, oft-horny friends taking a trip to China to find one of their birth mothers, has earned plenty of praise for bringing a dose of diversity to the R-rated comedy space — but as it turns out, it could have been even wilder.
At a Q&a at the Directors Guild of America over the weekend, Lim spoke about the lengthy process of bringing her vision to the big screen. She recalled that the original script she co-wrote with Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao featured the four friends crossing a river on a water buffalo. Lionsgate knew they had a winner when Adele Lim‘s “Joy Ride” had its world premiere at SXSW back in March. Critics loved it at the festival, but now it’s time to see how the raunchy road trip comedy fares with audiences and other critical voices as the film hits theaters today. But. EW reports that Lim isn’t fazed by some of the negative press her feature directorial debut received on Twitter earlier this week.

Review: In the year 2018 the film Crazy Rich Asians was released to near universal acclaim. The film became a cultural milestone as it not only was the first studio film to feature a mostly Asian cast in over 25 years but also because it was a bonafide hit, raking in $238.5 million against a $30 million budget, not to mention that it was actually a solid movie with some genuine laughs.
With that type of success, you would have expected to see a lot more Asian fronted films in its after math, but with the exception of a select few like 2018’s Searching featuring an awards worthy performance by John Cho, 2019’s The Farewell where Awkwafina won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and last years multi-Academy Award winning Everything Everywhere All At Once,...

The Aapi-led R-rated comedy, which stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu as pals who set out on a wild and raucous trip through China, is executive produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. “Joy Ride” debuted at SXSW earlier this year, but first-time director Adele Lim is only now having to field racist criticisms of the film, as it hits wide release this week.
On Wednesday, Lim retweeted a tweet from film critic Jackson Murphy (aka Lights Camera Jackson) in which Murphy wrote that the film is “embarrassing and incredibly unpleasant” while also alleging that the comedy “objectifies men, targets white people.”
In her retweet response, Lim wrote, “Imma need ‘Objectifies men, targets white people’ on a t-shirt” followed by a series of prayer hands and crying-laughing face emojis.

The underperformance of “Bros” this past fall has seemingly stoked a passion to reclaim the R-rated comedy’s place at the movies. “Joy Ride” is one of four rescue efforts being deployed this summer. Originally titled “The Joy F**k Club” – a wink at the 1993 benchmark for Asian American representation in mainstream film that it clearly aims to stand alongside – Adele Lim’s directorial debut, produced by “Superbad” writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, follows a mismatched quartet on their comically hazardous trip east.
Audrey (Ashley Park), adopted from China by white parents (David Denman and Annie Mumolo), has always experienced trouble belonging, even as a stellar student and now successful lawyer on the cusp of making partner. Aimless but effortlessly self-possessed, her best friend Lolo (Sherry Cola) is the opposite. Inseparable ever since a childhood skirmish with a playground bully, the two travel to China for a business deal...

Adele Lim made her directorial debut with “Joy Ride”, the new comedy feature produced by Point Grey Pictures, the production company launched by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
Lim recently sat down with Et Canada’s Keshia Chanté, who asked Lim what it was like working with fellow Canadian Rogen.
“Oh, Seth is the best,” Lim declared.

Adele Lim’s raunchy R-rated comedy “Joy Ride” premiered on Monday night, with an enthusiastic introduction from the star.
The film stars Ashley Park (“Emily in Paris”), Sherry Cola (“Good Trouble”), Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and newcomer Sabrina Wu as four friends who embark on a wild trip through Asia filled with personal and sexual discovery.
Lim, Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao were inspired to write a story about modern Asian American women who defied previous on-screen stereotypes. “We did it not knowing if anyone who wanted to make it, thank you Point Grey!” Lim said in front of a packed house at the Regency Theater in Westwood. “We wrote it full of joy not sure if anyone wanted to pay for it; thank you Lionsgate!”
Hollywood’s Asian community and its supporters turned out for the premiere. Check out all the “Joy Ride” red carpet and afterparty photos below.

Everything Everywhere All at Once star Stephanie Hsu, Sherry Cola and their girlfriends gets pretty raunchy in the latest trailer for Adele Lim’s shock friendship comedy Joy Ride, which is R-rated and set for a July 7 theatrical release.
“Sex isn’t shameful. It’s beautiful. Like the noises,” Cola, who plays Lolo, tells a young man at one point in the trailer, where she then uses a hand slap and slurping and gagging sounds to mimic the sex act. The Joy Ride teaser centers on four unlikely friends joining Audrey (Ashley Park) on a business trip to Asia that quickly goes sideways.
Audrey travels with Lolo, her childhood best friend and a hot mess; Kat, her college friend-turned-Chinese soap star played by Stephanie Hsu; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their sexual adventures quickly ramp up after the four Asian American friends get caught up with an...

As the Hollywood writers strike extends well into its second month, top screenwriters at the Banff World Media Festival declared their resolve to see the current negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reach a comprehensive and uncompromising new labor contract.
“The Writers Guild means business,” Adele Lim, whose screenwriting credits include Crazy Rich Asians, told a festival panel when asked what might be the impact on the labor talks from SAG-AFTRA starting negotiations with the AMPTP, with the threat of a wider work stoppage and the possibility of a separate deal for Hollywood actors.
“We’re not going to take that as the pattern for what we need to accept with the SAG contract,” Lim insisted. The screenwriters in Banff instead talked up the benefits of being in alignment with the often fractious world of Hollywood unions, while also striving...

This article contains spoilers for Xo, Kitty.
Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) was a fan favourite in the To All The Boys I Loved Before series as her matchmaking skills set up the still ongoing romance between her sister Lara-Jean (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo). The new spin-off series Xo, Kitty sees the teenager attempt to find her own romantic happy ending when she travels to Korea to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend Dae (Minyeong Choi) who attends the Korean International School of Seoul, or Kiss for short. Kitty also attends the school to feel closer to her late mother, who also attended Kiss when she was Kitty’s age.
In 10 episodes, the love-filled journey Kitty thought she was getting is not as straightforward as she expected. Taking inspiration from K-Dramas, the first episode sees Dae and Kitty break up as he’s in a new, fake relationship with Yuri.

Viewers were upset about Friday's cancellation of Swat and CBS was listening. The network has now reversed its decision and renewed the drama for a seventh and final season.
A police action drama series, the Swat TV show stars Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit. The crime thriller centers on Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore), a Los Angeles native and former Marine who’s been tapped to lead a new “last stop” Special Weapons And Tactics unit (S.W.A.T.). The rest of the team includes seasoned David “Deacon” Kay (Harrington), cocky Jim Street (Russell), expert driver Dominique Luca (Johnson), and informant-connected Victor Tan (Lim). Commander Robert Hicks (St. Esprit), a senior LAPD official with the Special Operations Bureau, is responsible for managing all Metro Division S.W.A.T. units.

“Your Lovely Smile” is a rather weird film. Despite the fact that is Lim Kah-wai's work, the style essentially follows Hirobumi Watanabe's low-budget, self-starring, self-deprecating, ironic and realistic approach to cinema, with the former's hand mostly showing in the fact that the movie is in color and follows a road-film path, although the last part also appears occasionally in the latter's titles.
“Your Lovely Smile” is screening at Udine Far East Film Festival
Watanabe actually stars as himself here, playing a filmmaker who, despite having won a number of awards from festivals in Japan, finds himself once more facing the harsh realities of independent filmmaking, which seem to have grown even worse after the pandemic. As the story begins, he is stranded in his hometown doing odd jobs to make a living and pass the time essentially, occasionally meeting people from the industry with similar troubles. Eventually an...

Glassman's mini-stroke shouldn't have led to him realizing he couldn't operate anymore.
On The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 21, Shaun became a pain in Glassman's ass, constantly standing over him and insisting he didn't know what he was doing.
And then, when Glassman was too distracted by Shaun's nonsense to verbalize his next step, Glassman concluded that Shaun had been right all along to want him to stop doing surgeries.
I get that the writers were going for a moving story about Glassman realizing he could no longer do the things he used to do, but they didn't pull it off.
Glassman seemed 100% competent until the last second. That's not a story. That's the writers pulling the rug out from under us for the sake of the plot.

Where to begin with this year’s summer preview?
The “big” titles, including new superhero films, another zippy entry into the “Fast and Furious” franchise, the continuing adventures of Tom Cruise running against “Impossible” odds, or even a kicky new Indiana Jones film? What about the latest picks from some of our favorite filmmakers, Wes Anderson to Greta Gerwig, Christopher Nolan to Nicole Holofcener, Paul Schrader to Niki Caro, Christian Petzold to Rachel Sennott?
Or what about the rising filmmaking stars we’ve already fallen for, like Celine Song, Laurel Parmet, Adele Lim, Charlotte Regan, and Savanah Leaf? Should we bet even bigger, noting that this summer includes at least two films we’ve already crowned some of the best of the year?
Or, better yet, how about we let the films speak for themselves? As another summer movie season beckons, we’ve dug into the calendar to pull out...

In what world is Glassman unable to do surgery anymore?
Glassman might have occasionally forgotten a word on The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 20, but he came through when it counted. Shaun repeatedly noted that Glassman noticed symptoms no one else did and devised an innovative surgical option when the patient suffered a hemorrhage during a complicated procedure.
Yet Lim immediately jumped to the conclusion that Glassman could no longer do surgery based on Glassman's brain scan and Shaun's explanation that Glassman could no longer do well under pressure. Something doesn't add up here.
Shaun may be right that Glassman suffered a mini-stroke, but so what? His symptoms are no different than normal age-related blips in short-term memory, and no one would have been concerned if Shaun hadn't obsessively searched for a diagnosis.
Lim's conclusion wasn't based on any evidence of incompetence. The facts suggest the opposite conclusion -- Glassman is...

Okay, we can breathe again, at least for the moment.
The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 19 featured an intense surgery after major clashes between Lim and Andrews, but that wasn't the scariest moment.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who held my breath when Glassman opened his test results!
The chances were high that Glassman would be fine -- or at least cancer-free. Richard Schiff leaving the series would be huge news and hard to keep under wraps, so it was unlikely that Glassman was going to die before the end of the season!
Still, until he had the results in hand saying he was cancer-free, there was no guarantee.

Netflix has developed more than a list of riveting and well-received K-dramas over the years. But one K-drama that has fans and professionals still raving is Alchemy of Souls. Helmed by the Hong Sisters, the fantasy K-drama interweaved magic, destiny, friendship, treacherous danger, and a fated love story. Lee Jae-wook led the Alchemy of Souls cast as Jang Uk with co-stars like Go Youn-jung and Jung So-min. Since the end of the K-drama in early 2023, some of the cast have taken on new roles.

Why couldn't Shaun be wrong this one time?
He spent most of The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 18 insisting that Glassman's recent surgical performance proved that Glassman's brain cancer had returned. Most of his evidence seemed nonsensical, and Glassman didn't think there was any cause for concern.
But when Glassman agreed to do the scan, I knew there was more to the story than that. Ugh.
Any story involving Glassman's brain cancer will be emotional, but it's not something we need to revisit.
Shaun's determination to find a cure the first time is burned into my memory forever. It was a traumatic, emotional storyline -- and one I don't want to relive. Glassman's first battle with brain cancer was depressing enough!

It's realistic; cancer does come back sometimes, and survivors must get regular scans to maximize their ability to stay alive and healthy.

It seems that Dong-eun did not win her man in real-life like in the K-drama. The Glory had Song Hye-kyo’s leading character develop a romance with Yeo-jeong during her plan for revenge. But it appears that The Glory cast members Lee Do-hyun and Lim Ji-yeon had other ideas, as they are reportedly dating. The two actors starred opposite each other as hero and villain in the K-drama storyline.

When news hits that K-drama co-stars start dating in real life, it is a big deal, as many try to keep their relationships a secret for as long as possible. But the cat is out of the bag, as Koreaboo reported that Dispatch had outed The Glory’s Lee Do-hyun and Lim Ji-yeon’s dating relationship.

Are we gearing up for a depressing storyline for Glassman?
The Good Doctor hasn't known what to do with his character for a while. After spending most of The Good Doctor Season 5 contemplating retirement, Glassman returned and mainly acts as Shaun's surrogate father.
So the series may have decided to cut its losses by allowing Glassman to have a fatal resurgence of his brain cancer, as spoilers for The Good Doctor Season 6 Episode 18 suggest.
There doesn't seem to be anywhere else for this storyline and character to go. Still, The Good Doctor won't be the same without Glassman if it chooses to go that way.
Not to mention that this could be one hell of a depressing storyline!

The Good Doctor is no stranger to sad storylines. Its depiction of the Covid pandemic on The Good Doctor Season 4 Episode 1 was damn good television.
