- Was nicknamed for his older brother, pitcher Francis "Big Jeff" Pfeffer. Francis got his nickname when he came up in 1905 while James "Big Jeff" Jeffries was the heavyweight boxing champ. When Edward came up in 1911, Big Jeff's last season, he was simply called Jeff.
