Exclusive: Oscar nominated producer David Permut and Jamie Cohen of Australian-based Clockwork Films have acquired the narrative motion picture and television rights to award winning journalist and author David Kushner’s book, The Players Ball: A Genius, A Con Man, And The Internet’s Secret Rise.
The book tells the true story of the birth of the internet and two men’s ensuing battle over who controlled the rights to the multi-million dollar domain name: “sex.com.”

Exclusive: The prolific producing pair of Amy Pascal and Neal H. Moritz have teamed to acquire film rights to Long Bright River, the upcoming suspense novel from Liz Moore. The book just sold at auction to Penguin Random House imprint Riverhead Books for seven figures.
Moore is also set to adapt the book, which is set in her native Philadelphia and revolves around two sisters — one, an addict who has gone missing and the other a police officer who must find her. The story is about the formidable ties between place, obligation and family. The book was brought into Pascal Pictures by Isabel Siskin and to Original Film by Amanda Lewis.

“Fringe” star Anna Torv and “Extant’s” Shree Crooks (CBS’s Extant) are set to join Frank Grillo in director Akiva Goldsman‘s horror-thriller “Stephanie,” TheWrap has learned.
Universal will distribute the genre movie, which is being produced by Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse Productions and Matt Kaplan’s Chapter One.

“The Purge: Anarchy” hero Frank Grillo is set to star in Akiva Goldsman‘s horror-thriller “Stephanie,” which Universal Pictures has acquired from Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse Productions and Matt Kaplan’s Chapter One, TheWrap has learned.
First announced last summer, the film was written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, whose script was voted to the 2012 Blood List.
Abandoned by her parents in their remote home, Stephanie survives on peanut butter and conversations with her toy turtle, while a dark supernatural force looms in the background.
