The largest part of his life spent and worked in Germany and is known therefore mainly there as a representative of modern pantomime.
The realization of his dream to establish his own German pantomime Theatre, based on the models of the Fialka and Tomaszewski groups failed to appropriate support.
Since the mid-1940s, he began to teach and to give lectures on "Modern theatre and pantomime" from the 1950s.
After his retirement in 1986 he worked until his death still on many free theatre projects.
The mime-ensemble Jean Soubeyran had its own television programme broadcast by the VPRO (Liberal Protestant Radio Broadcaster) called 'Jean Soubeyran en zijn pantomime-ensemble' (Jean Soubeyran and his mime-ensemble).
Had son Manuel Soubeyrand (b. 1957) with his ex-wife Brigitte Soubeyran (1932-2015).
