- TriviaAmerican trumpet player and band leader, popular in the 1930's and 40's. He co-wrote the popular standard "Elmer's Tune". Jurgens started his first band in San Francisco, but had his greatest success in Chicago at the Aragon and Trianon Ballrooms and at the Avalon Ballroom on Catalina Island. Jurgens served with the Marine Corps during World War II. He re-organised another big band after the war, featured prominently at the Hotel Claremont in Berkely. From the 1950's, Jurgens stepped back from full-time bandleading and in later years worked variously in electronics and real estate.
