Documentaries about horror movies are some of my favourite things to watch. Over ten years ago I watched the brilliant Zombie Girl: The Movie, the story of a twelve-year-old Emily Hagins making a zombie movie. Just reading about Sam and Mattie Make A Zombie Movie gave me similar vibes so I was looking forward to checking it out.
This documentary follows two friends with Down’s Syndrome, Sam and Mattie, who rally an entire town and more to help them make the zombie movie of their dreams – Spring Break Zombie Massacre.
The documentary is done in two parts. The first shows the process of how the idea of the movie came about, how they promoted...

ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” Apple TV Plus’ “Little Voice” and Netflix’s “Locke & Key” and “Away” are the four television series that have just earned the Ruderman Family Foundation’s Seal of Authentic Representation, Variety has learned exclusively.
Additionally, the foundation is awarding the seal, which is given to those projects that demonstrate a commitment toward authentic representation of people with disabilities by featuring actors with disabilities in a speaking role with at least five lines, to two films: “Sam & Mattie Make a Zombie Movie” and “Run.”
“With each and every authentic casting decision, Hollywood takes another crucial step toward fulfilling its true and long-unrealized potential as a beacon of inclusion and diversity in all its forms,” said Jay Ruderman, president of the Ruderman Family Foundation. “The latest recipients of the Seal of Authentic Representation, building off the momentum generated by our previous rounds of honorees, powerfully exhibit the...

With the big holiday school break fast approaching, parents may be looking for a way to keep the kiddies entertained. Maybe they can be dropped off at the mall’s multiplex while the folks do some last-minute shopping (or exchanging/returning a few weeks from now). Perhaps the pre-teen action of the Jumanji reboot may be a bit overwhelming, along with the new adventure in that “galaxy far, far away”. Well, hopefully they’ve been dazzled by the wonders of the new Disney/Pixar masterwork Coco (you parents and teens should see it, too). Like that recent flick, this one has a distinct Latin flavor, but it’s fairly mild rather than spicy. And it’s based (inspired really) by a 1938 Oscar-winning cartoon short from the “house of mouse”. However, those doing the “re-imagining” (stretching it from eight minutes to over one hundred) are the upstarts from Blue Sky, the...

Parker, the adaptation of of Donald Westlake’s novel Flashfire (the 19th entry into the Parker series), makes it clear from near minute one that it’s a jaunt not taking itself too seriously. The titular thief (Jason Statham) first appears to us decked out in priest garb, complete with a ridiculous grey wig and glasses, a silly disguise during an opening heist sequence that sets the occasionally rickety tone for all that is to follow.
Parker and a four-man team assigned to him by mentor Hurley (Nick Nolte) steal a large cash stash from a local fair, but it all goes wrong when the gang’s leader, Melander (Michael Chiklis), doesn’t take kindly to Parker’s refusing a tasty follow-up job. Parker ends up left for dead, and as he recovers, vows sweet revenge. Soon enough, a downtrodden real estate broker, Leslie (Jennifer Lopez...
