The late, great Paul Reubens completely changed the landscape of comedy with his character of Pee-wee Herman, becoming one of the handful of celebrities like Jim "Ernest P. Worrell" Varney, Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson, and Glenn "Divine" Milstead who become synonymous with their most famous roles. Honestly, there were probably a lot of people who learned of his passing at the same time they learned his actual name. Don't get me wrong, Pee-wee Herman is one of the greatest and most influential characters ever shown on screen and his hopeful embrace of the weird and creative has certainly made the world a better place. But Reubens was so much more than Pee-wee Herman and brought a number of other hilarious roles to life.

What’s this? What’s this? A screening of a Halloween movie at Christmas? While some may believe this live production of Tim Burton’s 1993 musical is three months too late, this evening’s performance proves once and for all that Nightmare Before Christmas is a joyous, raucous and, above all, festive flick. Never mind the beasts and bogeymen.

It is time to acknowledge the reindeer in the room; the truth that children and grown-ups alike are aware of, but dare not speak aloud. Santa Claus is terrifying. A strange old man overseeing an industrial complex of magical creatures, and who watches and judges all the children, then sneaks into your home dispatching justice as he sees fit.
Like clowns and DisneyWorld mascots, as a society, we have all agreed to pretend that this is charming and magical and suitable for children, but deep down in the dark part of our souls, we all know the truth. So with that in mind, here are the most terrifying Santas to ever grace a screen. Some intentionally. Some… less so.
Disclaimer: This is a list of actual terrifying Santa Clauses. Not serial killers dressed up as Santa Claus, no surly mall Santas (Sorry Bad Santa), and no evil Santa robots (So...

Just under three decades ago, the stop-motion animated classic "The Nightmare Before Christmas" was released. Directed by Henry Selick, the film introduced us to Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town in charge of the holiday. He's starting to get bored with being spooky, though. One day he discovers the door to Christmas Town and sees a different sort of celebration. Jack formulates a plan to kidnap Santa Claws — who he thinks is named Sandy Claws — and take over the winter festivities himself. Chris Sarandon voiced the role of Jack Skellington, with score composer Danny Elfman singing the songs for the character.
Santa Claus was voiced by Ed Ivory in the film, but the role originally went to someone who is very familiar with scary things. That man was horror legend Vincent Price, according to a Daily Beast interview with Selick from 2013. He wasn't the only person they saw for the role,...

Rarely do you see a film that is perfect for two holidays, but "The Nightmare Before Christmas," directed by Henry Selick, fits the bill. The classic stop-motion animated movie tells the story of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King (voiced by Chris Sarandon and sung by score composer Danny Elfman). He rules Halloween Town, a magical land full of frightening creatures whose job it is to run the spooky holiday. One day, Jack finds the door to Christmas Town, has Santa Claus (who he calls Sandy Claws) kidnapped, and tries to take over Christmas.
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" grossed 91 million worldwide and received an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects. According to a 2006 article from MTV, the story came to producer Tim Burton when he was ill. "Well, I was hallucinating," he explained. "I had a 108-temperature fever that night. I think that's where you get your best ideas, the ones...

Now that we are in that transition from Halloween to Christmas (Thanksgiving who?), animation fans flock to the one film that finds the perfect balance: A Nightmare Before Christmas. And a lot of that is thanks to the work of composer Danny Elfman.
In a recent interview with Yahoo!, Danny Elfman recalled how 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas was a tough sell for Disney, who at that time was in their Disney Renaissance, when it was all mermaids, flying carpets and talking lions, not skeletons, boogeymen and Sandy Claws. “When I wrote [the score], nobody understood it. I got horrible reviews for it. Disney didn’t know what to make of it. How could Disney know what to make of it? They did a preview with kids who were expecting The Little Mermaid and they got an unfinished version of The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
