The show will also feature Dave Burd aka Lil Dicky, Dave Chappelle, Jimmy Fallon, Tiffany Haddish, Regina Hall, Chelsea Handler, Nelly, The Plastic Cup Boyz, Keith Robinson, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and J.B. Smoove.

This story about “Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music & Laughter” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy/Variety/Reality/Nonfiction issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Norman Lear has been winning Emmys for more than 50 years, so it makes perfect sense that he’s back in the race this year. His first two came in 1971 for his groundbreaking series “All in the Family,” while his fifth and sixth came in 2019 and 2020 for “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” specials that included real-time reenactments of “All in the Family” episodes.
The last of those came when he was 98 years old, making him the oldest Emmy winner in history. So when Lear turned 100 in the summer of 2022, it made sense that ABC, the network that aired “Live in Front of a Studio Audience,” would embrace the ensuing tribute special “Norman Lear: 100 Years of Music & Laughter,” and...

Dionne Warwick, Billy Crystal, Queen Latifah, Barry Gibb and Renée Fleming have been set as the five arts figures due to be celebrated at the 46th annual Kennedy Center Honors, with a ceremony taking place Dec. 3 in Washington, D.C.
The ceremony will take place Dec. 3 and be filmed for later broadcast airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
Four of the five honorees hail from the world of music, although Queen Latifah has shifted her focus toward acting in recent years. The ratio is not an uncommon one for the Kennedy Center Honors: Last year’s ceremony honored U2, Amy Grant, Tania León and Gladys Knight, leaving George Clooney the odd acting man out.
No date was announced for the broadcast, but the 2022 ceremony also took place in the first week of December and was broadcast during the last week of that month. The show will be produced by...

The 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards winners may be celebrating alone in their own homes during the live but virtual broadcast on Sunday, but some of them won’t have to socially distance from their awards!
Trophy presenters “may be visiting some of the winners live,” ABC, which will air the event, announced Friday. With this announcement came a first look (which you can see above) at the health and safety measures these presenters will utilize in order to deliver the statues amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The hazmat suit was created and designed by costume designer Katja Cahill and executive producer Guy Carrington. Carrington also worked with a hazmat manufacturer to create these garments for the show.
The 72nd Annual Emmy Awards will be live Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. Et / 5 p.m. Pt, with host Jimmy Kimmel recording from Downtown Los Angeles, while nominees, presenters and winners will be cut to around the globe.

Reginald Hudlin, one of the executive producers of this year’s unique (to say the least) virtual 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards show, has actually produced the Oscars in 2016. But even that did not prepare him for what he is experiencing at the helm of this year’s Emmys.
“We’ve all seen the Emmys, this is the 72nd one. This is not that. This is going to be something else. And what that is none of us 100% know. Exclusive: This could get messy. The TV Academy this morning announced the rundown for the virtual 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards, which includes five nights of Creative Arts Emmy Awards, followed by the 72nd Emmy Awards telecast on Sept. 20.
There is a major shakeup in the lineup for the Sept. 20 show which airs on ABC. It will feature 23 categories, along with the Governors Award presentation, usually held during the Creative Emmys.
The four categories relocated from the Emmy Awards ceremony to the Creative Arts include one writing and one directing category, for variety writing/directing. That reduces the number of writing and directing awards handed out on the main telecast to three each, bellow the four the WGA and the DGA are contractually guaranteed by the TV Academy.
It appears that the changes have been made without input from the guilds.
“The DGA has not signed off on this,” a spokesperson for the DGA told Deadline.

The Television Academy revealed its plan for the 2020 Creative Arts Emmys on Thursday, announcing five virtual ceremonies leading up to the main Emmys telecast next month.
The first four virtual broadcasts will stream on the Emmys website on Monday, Sept. 14, through Thursday, Sept. 17, followed by a live broadcast on Fxx on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The new plan marks a departure from the typical two-night Creative Arts Emmys ceremony held in a normal year. This year’s awards were initially scheduled to be handed out on Sept. 12 and 13 until the coronavirus pandemic forced the TV Academy to call off the in-person ceremony.
The first four virtual broadcasts will stream on the Emmys website on Monday, Sept. 14, through Thursday, Sept. 17, followed by a live broadcast on Fxx on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The Television Academy also announced that, unlike a normal year, the Emmys for Outstanding Television Movie, Outstanding Variety Sketch Show and variety writing and directing will not be presented on the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards telecast and will be awarded during the Creative Arts Emmys shows.

On July 29, the day after the Primetime Emmy nominations were announced, the producers of the Emmy telecast sent a letter to acting nominees letting them know what most of us were already expecting. This year’s awards are going virtual.
SEEEmmys showdown: ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ vs ‘Schitt’s Creek’?
“As you’ve probably guessed, we’re not going to be asking you to come to the Microsoft Theatre in downtown LA on September 20th. This year, it’s still going to be TV industry’s biggest night out … but we’ll come to you!” explains the letter, which was signed by producers Jimmy Kimmel, Ian Stewart, Reggie Hudlin, Guy Carrington and David Jammy. Kimmel is also hosting the event.
The letter goes on to say, “We never want to lose the significance of being nominated for, and maybe winning, an Emmy, but we’re going to do in a way that...

Host Jimmy Kimmel and the other executive producers of the 2020 Emmys have confirmed that next month’s ceremony will go virtual in a letter to some of the nominees.
“As ABC and the TV Academy continue to formulate plans for the Emmys telecast, producers have taken the proactive step of reaching out to some nominees now to inform them of our intent to deliver a live show that is both celebratory and safe,” a spokesperson said. “We look forward to sharing information with you in the weeks ahead, as we solidify our plans for TV’s biggest night.”
The decision comes a day after the nominees were announced in a remote ceremony hosted by “Saturday Night Live” alum Leslie Jones, Laverne Cox, Josh Gad and Tatiana Maslany.

In the long tradition of updates that clarify nothing and leave you with more questions than answers, the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony are definitely, officially, going virtual in September, to the surprise of no one, what with the ongoing pandemic still ravaging the United States and, specifically, California.
According to Variety, the news came in the aftermath of Tuesday’s nominations announcement, after which the executive producers of the ceremony — still scheduled to air on ABC on September 22 — sent a letter to acting nominees which stated that the event would indeed be virtual, but inviting them to participate from home “or another location of your choice” with help from a team of technicians, producers, and writers being assembled to help facilitate the process.
While the news is hardly unexpected, there are still a lot of questions surrounding what, exactly, a virtual Emmy broadcast will look like and what an audience...
