“Now she has stopped being against herself” concludes the analyst about Seriema (Ismenia Mendes) when it is time to say adieu Lacan. The journey to this point is the journey of the film, one session at a time, some shorter, some longer, as was the style for Jacques Lacan, one of the most original thinkers of the 20th century.

This romantic comedy is intercut with documentary interviews with firemen who lost their homes to the storm. The behind-the-scenes documentary, "The Making of The Dark Side," follows the largely improvised production of the film and its unique timeline that ran parallel to Hurricane Sandy. Interviews with director Richard Ledes and stars Edoardo Ballerini and Ali Ahn illuminate how the crew managed to shoot a film when most of New York City's lights wouldn't turn on, how they blended the unlikely pairing of documentary and romantic comedy, and how volunteering after the storm led them to the human...

Virgil Films has closed a Us deal in Toronto on the horror tale Foreclosure starring Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos.
Virgil plans a theatrical and VoD release in the first quarter of 2014 in what will be its third release of a film by writer-director Richard Ledes following Fred Won’t Move Out and The Caller, which both starred Elliott Gould.
Foreclosure is set against the fall-out from the financial crisis as a man and his son and father-in-law travel through a landscape of vacant properties in Queens, New York, to the house of a recently deceased relative.
At the house they discover a disturbing photograph in the basement that kicks off a horrifying series of events.
Virgil Films president Joseph Amodei brokered the deal with Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment. Ged Dickersin serves as producer and Joseph Infantolino is the executive producer.

Virgil Films acquired the U.S. rights to Foreclosure, a Richard Ledes-directed horror film that stars Michael Imperioli, best known for his work in mob sagas The Sopranos and Goodfellas. This is the third distribution arrangement between Virgil Films and writer-director Ledes, following Fred Won’t Move Out and The Caller, which both starred Elliott Gould. Submarine’s Josh Braun made the deal with Virgil president Joseph Amodei. They’ll put it out VOD early next year. Ged Dickersin is producer and Joseph Infantolino is exec producer. Related: Toronto: Virgil Acquires Bloodworth Thomason’s ‘Bridegroom’ Imperioli plays a man who takes his father-in-law and son to Queens to to the house of a recently deceased relative. The neighborhood has been decimated by foreclosures, but they try to get a fresh start in the house. Then stuff starts happening. Spencer List, Bill Raymond, Wendell Peirce, Meital Dohan, Matt Servitto and David Costabile also star.

In Fred Won’t Move Out, writer/director Richard Ledes digs into one of American film’s most fertile fields by tapping the improvisational abilities of Elliott Gould. Ledes last directed Gould for the 2008 corporate-crime thriller The Caller, but when he decided to do a smaller, more personal story inspired by his own family, Ledes turned once more to the veteran actor’s versatile skills. The impetus for the film came from the director’s own experience with his aging, infirm parents and their inability to maintain their lives in the house where Ledes had grown up. The characters were inspired by the members of Ledes’ immediate family, with Gould taking the patriarchal role of Fred. But in case that didn’t already create an intimate enough scenario, Ledes went a step further by shooting the film in his parent’s actual house. Fred Won’t Move Out is making...

Fred Won’t Move Out
Written by Richard Ledes
Directed by Richard Ledes
USA, 2012
The title character of Richard Ledes’ new film, played by Elliott Gould, is an elderly man living with his wife Susan (Judith Roberts), a sufferer of Alzheimer’s. Often at odds with Susan’s endlessly patient live-in nurse, Fred demonstrates frustration at his wife’s condition; not dismissive with contempt, but upset at Susan’s increasing failure to be “present”. Fred himself is also beginning to lose his own functionality in various ways, and the film’s little narrative focus concerns his two children, Bob (Fred Melamed) and Carol (Stephanie Roth Haberie), trying to arrange for both their parents to move to a full-time home. Having lived in the country house for over fifty years, Fred is resilient to change and eager to hang on what is left of his relationship with his wife and residence.

Married couple Fred (Elliot Gould) and Susan (Judith Roberts) have lived in their country home for over fifty years. As varying illnesses start to take their toll (Susan, in particular, has become almost completely dependant on live-in nurse Veronica), their two children, Bob (Fred Melamed) and Carol (Stephanie Roth Haberie) are forced to step in and arrange for their transition to a full-time home. However, with Fred’s resilience to change and desire to hold on to what’s left of his relationship with Susan, the move won’t be an easy one.
Writer and director Richard Ledes constructs a warm-hearted, tender portrait that avoids artifice and ridiculously non-sensical catastrophes. The uncomfortable, yet realistic scenario Fred, Susan, Bob and Carol are met with, and subsequently forced to deal with in the two days we spend with them, is one that rings true in a way that will enable audiences to connect immediately with each individual.

The 66th Edinburgh International Film Festival is officially under way – last night the opening film, Killer Joe, screened in Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre, and though I wasn’t there I do wonder how it went down. It’s a provocative movie, and if it gets people arguing then at least it’s got people talking; last year’s deliberately unglamorous festival didn’t achieve even that. The screening was attended by its director, William Friedkin, who the night before introduced a screening of his classic The French Connection in the Filmhouse, and actress Gina Gershon; jury members Jim Broadbent and Elliott Gould were also in attendance.
After Friedkin’s memorable opener, I started my Festival with Pusher, that most suspicious of film product: a dreaded English-language remake. The original, a cult Danish film from the ’90s, was the first film from director Nicolas Winding Refn, of whom I have been...

Michael Imperioli has been cast as the lead in writer-director Richard Ledes' horror-thriller "Foreclosure."
The former "Sopranos" star joins Wendell Pierce, Bill Raymond, Jeff Burchfield, Meital Dohan, Brandon Gill, Spencer List, Tristan Laurence Perez, William Stone Mahoney and Roger Robinson in the creeper.
With a tagline of "ghosts don't move out," "Foreclosure" sets its action in a nearly empty, economically depressed neighborhood block, amid the real-life context of the mortgage crisis where so many homes are bank-owned.
Ged Dickersin ("City Island") is producing the project, which Ledes will begin shooting in Queens next week.

Though it’s often hard because of my job, I’m one of those people who tries to avoid learning too much about a film before I see it. Particularly if it’s one I’m excited about. Case in point–Paranormal Activity. Many people who saw Paranormal Activity late in the game absolutely hated it. I can’t say I blame them after one of the trailers gave away the biggest scare in the film and the hype surrounding it became so infectious, there was no avoiding it no matter how hard you tried. Director Richard Ledes is playing it smart. He’s only giving audiences a [...]

Filmmakers taking a trip into the supernatural in the coming months are faced with the challenge to be unique in the ever-growing crowded marketplace of films about hauntings, possessions and other "paranormal activity" (catch my drift?). Yet, writer-director Richard Ledes thinks he's got an edge with Foreclosure which will begin shooting in March of 2010. The conceit of this story is simple. A broken family moves into a home where the ghosts residing there try to tear them apart. "The seed of the idea came from films that were important to me growing up," Ledes informs us. "Some Val Lewton films and more recently The Shining . These were some films that were lodged in my head from an early age and I was able to work some ideas out and they've...

Langella starred in the Sundance Film Festival entry Starting Out in the Evening, which was just acquired by Roadside Attractions for theatrical release in November. Gould appears in Warner Bros.' Ocean's Thirteen. Harring starred in David Lynch's Mulholland Dr. and will appear in the upcoming films Bitter Grapes, Nancy Drew and Love in the Time of Cholera.
