‘Music School’ is a slice of life drama revolving around a theatre teacher and music teacher, trying to put together a stage musical based on ‘The Sound of Music’, helmed by former Ias officer and National Award-winning filmmaker Papa Rao Biyyala, marking his full-length feature directorial debut.
The movie opens with a theatre teacher struggling to make his presence count, while other streams take up all the space, students and credit.
Painting, music, theatre, poetry, and such soulful and nourishing creative streams are often sidelined as there is unprecedented academic pressure on students to score good grades, and find a place in reputed professional colleges. But nourishment of the soul is most important; there is nothing worse than the broken spirit of a child.
Shriya Saran (Maria), a music teacher from Goa, joins the school, only to face the same disdain and struggle that Sharman Joshi’s character (drama teacher Manoj) has to contend with.

Kuchh Bheege Alfaaz
Starring Zain Khan Durrani, Gitanjali Thapar
Directed by Onir
In his latest directorial venture the prolific and insightful director Onir probes wounds that never heal. The love that grows between two wounded people trapped in the numbing bustle of the metropolis—Kolkata this time, it was Delhi in Onir’s previous film Shab—is not uncharted territory in the cinema of emotional diaspora that Onir has constantly explored and Anurag Basu also examined with scrupulous integrity in Life In A Metro.
In Kuchh Bheege Alfaaz (Kba) the traditional tearfulness associated with the emotions of hurt, pain, betrayal, isolation and guilt—yes, all of these emotions are compressed into Onir’s latest—are alchemized into a warm-hearted frothy but never frivolous look at how craggily man-woman relationships pan out in the city.

Dishoom
Starring: John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Akshaye Khanna, Virat Kohli (just kidding) and a dog named Bradman (not kidding)
Directed by Rohit Dhawan
Rating: *** ½
Everybody in Dishoom is shown to be in a tearing hurry. Some, like the flighty Miss Fernandez seem to be running to nowhere quite furiously. But everyone is determined to get some place.
Fast.
Dishoom is one of the most fast-paced Bollywood bromances in recent times. Bromance, it sure is. And a pretty cool one at that. With John Abraham (excellent as the strong silent sturdy he-man type) and Varun Dhawan (endearingly vulnerable clumsy but finally dependable) helming the hyperventilating hi-jinks, director Rohit Dhawan can’t go wrong.
He doesn’t.
Plus there is cricket which as we all know is religion in India. So what happens when Virat, fictionally altered to Viraj, is kidnapped by a mean money machine named Wagah (probably because...

Mardaani is a film that makes all the correct noises about child trafficking. And by “correct noises” I do mean the soundtrack which is among the most evocative provocative and satisfying in recent times.
Normally in Bollywood, when films are done with live sound the effect is scratchy and at times in inaudible. Mardaani cleans out the noises and yet retains a high decibel of authenticity in the complementary relationship between sight and sound. This is a film knows its job.

In any industry where the lead police cops are often shown as larger than life, one-man army characters, Mardaani is a welcome respite. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, (Parineeta, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag), Mardaani’s Shivani Shivaji Roy tries to steer clear of the Chulbul Pandeys and the Singhams of Bollywood cops and manages to do so to quite an extent.
From the first scene of the movie itself, Pradeep sets the tone of the movie as well as the protagonist. Shivani (Rani Mukherjee) is a Crime Branch Officer who finds her personal and professional life entwined after Pyaari (Priyanka Sharma), an orphan kid who she considers as her daughter, gets kidnapped. What on the surface seems to be a case of a missing kid leads to a darker and murkier world of sex trafficking which the antagonist Walt carries on such a large and organized scale that it will chill your bones.
