Wow!
The sixth season of Homeland ended last night with an absolutely bang-up twisting cliffhanger and a final shot of Carrie staring at the Capitol building, mirroring the opening montage of earlier seasons that ended with Nicholas Brody staring at the White House.
Showtime did not give Homeland much publicity this year; the network instead focused on Billions – which stars Damien Lewis, who played the conflicted, and ultimately very lost, Sgt. Nicholas Brody. But after six years Homeland continues to stay relevant; this season it delivered hard punches to topical issues,...

This past weekend a giant of entertainment left us. Chuck Berry was 90 years old, and I must admit I would from time to time wonder if Little Richard, Chubby Checker or Chuck were still with us.
I’ve not only had the pleasure of meeting each of these legends, I spent time with them. I worked in the music industry running the film and television arm of Motown Records for a click. Although a fantastic dancer and unbeatable in a lip-synch battle, I have no real musical talent, and at Motown I had almost zero to do with the core business.
Didn’t matter. Motown provided me access to anyone and everyone in the music industry. The music business can be very much like you see in TV and movies.
Sex drugs rock and roll complete with groupies’ wild parties and wilder people. What you see in the media does indeed happen,...

This was written for Bleeding Cool and a version of it will appear there. I decided a while ago not to run the same article on both Bleeding Cool and ComicMix. Two different audiences is not the reason I write individual articles for each website. My voice remains the same regardless.
I write a different column for each because it’s an honor to write for each and both deserve an original effort from me. That is unless I happen upon a subject that I think is important enough to share on both.
Like… this one.
When I’m absent for lengthy periods of time, I feel it’s my responsibly to give you an explanation. I try to write what my readers will have a response to and not just what gets my goat. That doesn’t always work, but I do attempt to step back and breath a...

So last night came the news that the Inhumans movie was removed off schedule, this may have came as shock to many or not for others. recently during the Press Junket for Civil War, Kevin Feige stated that the Inhumans movie would be shuffled again because Indiana Jones 5 (another Disney property), was opening the week after Inhumans, Feige mentioned that its not a case of If they will make it, but When they will make it, which would look like Inhumans is still in table, but it is?. Take this with a grain of salt, but if Rich Johnston from Bleeding Cool is to be believed, its possible we may not see it anytime soon. as according to his sources, the Inhumans movie was an Ike Perlmutter pushed project and Kevin Feige only agreed to make the movie if he was allowed to do Captain Marvel, for those unaware, Ike...

There are two sides to every coin. I usually write the incredible passion fans have for Geek Culture. This week I’m thinking about Nerd Rage.
This term probably started as a way to describe frustrations in video gaming. But it is now generally used to describe the intense anger that arises when fans vehemently disagree with development plans or ongoing creative efforts for a brand, mythology or intellectual property with which they disagree.
You’ve seen many examples of Nerd Rage. During the yuletide release of the new Star Wars movie, it seemed as if the whole country waited with bated breath for the core fans’ judgment. There had been months of speculation prior to the debut. Would fans approve or shake their virtual fists with the fury of Nerd Rage?
Sports radio is, in many ways, founded on the concept of Nerd Rage, although they’d never call it that.

Netflix and Marvel are about to unveil Jessica Jones, the second series of a planned five that work to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but a new report from Bleeding Cool suggests that the on-going battles between Marvel’s movie and television divisions may knock that count down to four.
Iron Fist, a series we’ve already heard Marvel is struggling to get right from a creative standpoint, is apparently on the chopping block thanks to interference from Marvel Studios. Bleeding Cool has a somewhat reliable track record with this kind of scoop, and its writer Rich Johnston wrote earlier today:
I was… told to expect the upcoming Iron Fist project through Netflix to be hit by Marvel Studios interference – they still do have a say and a signoff into how the show appear and the word is the show may be killed with such procedural notes.
Right now, Marvel...

Back before the Marvel Cinematic Universe became the sprawling, successful behemoth it is today, one of the better examples (at least in the first two movies) of movies based on the comic book company’s characters was 1998's Blade. With Marvel now in possession of the rights, there’s every chance it’ll go ahead with a new film set in that universe, but according to Bleeding Cool’s Rich Johnston, the main character might be someone new – Blade’s daughter, Fallon Grey. We’d caution you at this point that this falls strictly in the world of rumours, since the information comes from Johnston’s undefined sources. But the comic book featuring Blade’s vampire-hunting spawn, which had been planned for an October release, has now been delayed. The reason? Nothing confirmed, but higher powers within the company – those in control of other Marvel media – are seeing the character...

The Hollywood Reporter’s most powerful comic writers list wasn’t the only comic-related power list to be published this week; Bleeding Cool Magazine also released its third annual Top 100 Power List midweek, running down the most powerful figures in the comic industry — whether they’re creators, editors, executives or even journalists. (Full disclosure: I make an appearance at the bottom end of the list, something I personally consider a flattering mistake.) The list is created by Rich Johnston, who’s been writing about the comics industry for two decades. “I’m talking to publishers, retailers, distributors, stores all the time

It’s easy to blame all sorts of bad, evil things on corporations and, damn, the Supreme Court recently made that a whole lot easier. But in the interest of fairness we should endeavor to embrace the whole enchilada.
No doubt you were one of the 160.1 million dollars worth of humans worldwide (and counting) who have seen the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. If you haven’t, there are no spoilers here: I thought it was great fun, as did the other minions of the Lower Connecticut Comics Mafia that occupied the theater last Thursday. The fact that we...

Rich Johnston reports a story that has to be read to be believed.
A few weeks ago, a few books were stolen from the store only to end up on eBay. We have video tape of a guy stealing a pile of Cgc books from us – included is a Batman #251 Cgc 7.0, an Amazing Fantasy #15 Cgc 1.0 SS and a few other books.
Well, the Amazing Fantasy #15 was sold on eBay and was sent to Florida.
The Batman #251 was apparently sold at a pawn shop earlier this week for $50.
We know who the perp is and he’s been charged – but get this – he said to me that he stole the money just so he can start his own comic book store.

Both zombies and vampires are all the rage right now, and World War Z writer Max Brooks capitalized on that earlier this year by launching Extinction Parade, a comic series that depicts a battle between the two breeds of monsters - with us lowly humans caught in the middle.
As reported by the folks over at Bleeding Cool, the comic series from Avatar Press may already be set to come to life on the small screen. Though the news isn't 100% confirmed, Rich Johnston writes that Extinction Parade is "currently in the process of being signed as a TV series for one of the most successful production companies in Hollywood."
Avatar Press has yet to issue any comments about this, so for now this rumor is all we've got to go on.

Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool has another juicy rumor in store for DC fans, reporting that the proposed ‘Villains Month’ that’s expected to arrive in September will spawn a brand new title called “Forever Evil.” According to various sources (and a solicitation slip on Amazon), ‘Villains Month’ will run the entire month of September in which each of DC’s New 52 books will focus on a villain specific to that title.
Now, it appears that rumors have begun to circulate out of Phoenix Comic con that suggest a new series titled “Forever Evil” may launch out of the event in September. While there aren’t’ that many details to go on, it does appear that David Finch has been tapped to illustrate the mysterious “Forever Evil” title which may or may not be a new ongoing series for DC Comics. With great power comes…a great excuse to make power lists.
The latest is Bleeding Cool Magazine’s “The Top 100 Power List of Comic Books” which gives its top spot to Jim Lee, the 48-year-old co-publisher of DC Comics and the most celebrated superhero artist of the past 25 years. It’s a good choice, Lee is a powerhouse force of art and commerce and as the uber-art director for DC his design agenda and sensibility echo in the DC Universe in a profound way. To get a sense of Lee’s life journey, check out this reflective video visit to his home in San Diego.

The Doctor is very good at saving the world, but very poor at sitting still. So when he’s stuck waiting a full year for an invasion to start, it gives a new meaning to cabin fever. The Year of the Slow Invasion, the year The Doctor got involved in Amy and Rory’s life and not the other way around. A very personal episode (featuring the entire world), rife with spoilers, so sit back, and keep your eye on the box.
The Power Of Three
by Chris Chibnall
Directed by Douglas Mackinnon
Amy and Rory have been spending more time away from The Doctor, and it seems less and less of a problem to them. But when tiny little boxes appear all over the world, it’s a mystery sure to attract their time traveling friend, which of course it does. But his arrival also attract the attention of...

You’d think with the Olympics going on and all that sloppy security Mitt Romney told us about, the authorities would have more important work to do than to count the number of penises (peni?) Howard Chaykin can squeeze into a single comic book. But – obviously, since I’m writing this – you’d be wrong.
I got an email from a British comics shop owning friend of mine, subsequently confirmed by our pal Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool, that Chaykin’s Black Kiss II #1 was the only title missing in his shipment from Image Comics. Knowing I have a long-standing friendship with the writer/artist (and, ahem, edited his American Flagg! and Blackhawk), he thought I’d be amused.
He’s right about that. Howard’s pushing 62 – not quite as hard as I am – and he’s still raising a ruckus. He’s more than my friend. He’s my hero of the week.

We have seen this intense looking fellow before, but never knew what we should be calling him, until now.. Green Lantern #13 (W) Geoff Johns (A) Doug Mahnke, Mark Irwin (CA) Ivan Reis, Joe Prado ”Rise of the Third Army”! Baz, Earth’s New Green Lantern, battles The Justice League! Meanwhile, The Guardians begin their final step in the destruction of the Lanterns by releasing the first of the Third Army soldiers! Baz the Green Lantern. Most of you probably don't find that too funny, but as Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston points out, here in the UK and Ireland Baz or "Bazza" is short for Barry. Just doesn't have a very intimidating ring to it does it?...

Bleeding Cool has a bit of information that they obtained at this years San Diego Comic Con regarding Man Of Steel. The information is not confirmed by them, but it is really cool none the less. The info they have been given is that during a fight sequence in the film Superman uses a building as a weapon. Here is exactly what Rich Johnston was told, "I have been told details of one specific scene in particular, in which Superman breaks apart a building and uses the building itself as a weapon in some kind of ‘super martial art’ fashion. “Girders as throwing stars” was the specific example I was given." This rumor is unconfirmed at the moment so make sure you take this bit of information with a grain of salt. However, Snyder has said that he wants to make Superman relevant again, and based on this possible description...

Now here’s a little rumor that we’re desperately hoping will turn out to be true. According to a source close to Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool, it’s possible that DC Comics writer Jeff Lemire (Animal Man, Frankenstein Agent of S.H.A.D.E) may be preparing to take part in a new Bat-book that will feature all of the Robins in one single series, appropriately titled, The Robins. The supposed series would include Damian Wayne, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Dick Grayson while featuring a lot less of their Dark Knight mentor.
Now take this story concept and throw in the writing skills of Jeff Lemire and this could easily have to potential to become a very exciting series for fans of the sidekick(s). Batman and Robin has clearly proven to audiences that the inclusion of multiple Robin characters in a single series can...

DC applied for a new logo trademark recently, to much internet dismay. The new DC "peel" logo as some call it may be closer to its debut then we think. Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool, who reported the new logo wrote this morning that a relatively reliable source close to DC Comics said that the new logo was announced to DC Comics staff in New York last week. Johnston stated: "I’m told that the consensus is that the logo works well as an animated item, but less well as a static logo, that might appear on printed books, signage and the like. And certain editors more committed to print, found themselves in an usual alliance against the new logo. I’m told that that the plan (at least it was, last week) is to announce it very vocally, visibly, animatedly and colourfully, on Wednesday this week." The new logo,...

From the mind of the infamous editor of Bleeding Cool, Rich Johnston, comes a three-part tale of gruesome gossip: The Many Murders of Miss Cranbourne, set to premiere in Dark Horse Presents #8!
Have you ever wondered how amateur detectives keep stumbling over dead bodies? Miss Cranbourne doesn’t. Because she kills them. Then finds someone else to pin the blame on.
In “The Vicar Slash’d from Side to Side,” Miss Cranbourne is at odds with the local man of God, and so introduces him to his maker. But in a 1940s English village held together by gossip and sharp looks, how will Miss Cranbourne ensure people look in the direction she’d prefer? And what happens when a man from Scotland Yard arrives to take over the case? This is Dexter meets Miss Marple.

Need another reason to pick up a copy of Dark Horse Presents #8, which goes on sale February 1st, other than the fact it contains a brand-new B.P.R.D. story, a new Skeleton Key, and the conclusion of Howard Chaykin's Marked Man among its offerings? How about its inclusion of Part 1 of Rich Johnston's The Many Murders of Miss Cranbourne?
From the mind of the infamous editor of Bleeding Cool, Rich Johnston, comes this three-part tale of gruesome gossip.

The most important story of the new year is not being covered by the lame-stream media. You won’t find it on the more popular blogs. Neither Heidi MacDonald nor Rich Johnston has the scoop.
We’re getting a new cat. You heard it here first.
In my life, I’ve only had three cats, unless you count the two on the commune where I spent 1974 and half of 1975. My first cat, Toots, came from a friend who found her on the streets of Yellow Springs, Ohio, and brought her to me in college. The second two, sisters Trixie and Midnight, were brought over from a rescue group. This time, I went to the Humane Society. They asked me what I wanted.
Using all available self-control, I did not specify a lightning-bolt marking on the right side. Neither did I specify super-strength, x-ray vision, nor the ability to fly.

There are few songwriters – few writers – I respect more than Pete Townshend. Were this a music column I’d go into detail why I hold this belief, but today in this venue he’s a means to an end.
Last week, Pete (okay, we’re not on a first name basis; the only time we were within 10 feet was when he bashed my boss in the back of his head with his guitar) accused Apple’s iTunes online retail store of being a “digital vampire.” His analysis was fraught with mistakes and revealed a genuine lack of knowledge of the situation. He was defending a system that treated him and his band, The Who, very, very well – a system that no longer exists as a creative outlet for newcomers going back at least a full generation. He also mistook iTunes for a label and not what it actually is: a retail outlet.

The rumors have been kicking around for a while, and we’ve even made jokes about it in the past, but now Rich Johnston reports that there’s a possibility that there may be more stories set in the Watchmen universe.
I was told before New York Comic Con that it might be back on and that DC were drawing up a wishlist of creators for a series of Watchmen prequel comics.. Well, I’ve now heard a lot more. Darwyn Cooke’s name is at the very top, linked to drawing two mini-series and writing another, followed by the likes of Jms, Jg Jones, Andy Kubert and Brian Azzarello. Whether or not they have been approached, I don’t know, and no one’s talking, but it gives you an idea of the scale. I would also expect Dave Gibbons and John Higgins to be involved in some way.

Every once in a while we hear about a protest outside of Comic-Con by some fringe (not to be confused with Fringe) group with some anti-something issue, but this year there is a protest planned for inside the Con. As we told you in the beginning of June, DC Comics is planning a reboot of all of their series to begin at the end of August. Some fans are not pleased with these plans, and have therefore scheduled a “Walk to protest against the new awful designs” scheduled for Saturday, July 23 from 2-3pm.
Here’s what it says on the event’s Facebook page:
Are you utterly baffled, disappointed and just Angry to see how DC ruins your favorite character’s design and wipes decades of comic history out of the mainstream universe? Well, you’re not alone!
And why not make some noise at the biggest pop-culture event this year,...

Swipe File is normally Rich Johnston’s beat, but since he’s not into American politics, he might not catch this one.
On the left is Gary Callahan, a.k.a. The Smiler, from Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson’s Transmetropolitan. On the right is U.S. Representative Paul Ryan (R-wi), Chairman of the House Budget Committee and who we should note is not Paul Ryan, the comics artist for Fantastic Four, D.P. 7, Quasar, and The Phantom.
One of these individuals has good looks and a certain amount of charisma, but has no empathy for the lower classes of society. He has designs on the presidency, and will cut odious political deals to make that happen, all while being fawned over by right wing pundits and a segment of the voters who are convince that he will save us from “the Beast”.
The other, of course, is a character out of the comic books.

As if they hadn't gotten enough coverage for their upcoming nuptials, Prince William and his bride-to-be Kate Middleton can now be found in your local comic store...on the pages of their very own book. As with every comic, it starts out with the origins of both characters and their eventual engagement. Courtesy of CBS News: "The story of their romance is illustrated starting with the lovers' early days. Prince William can be seen on a family vacation while Kate Middleton daydreams about being a princess. Then the plot thickens. Kate wears a now infamous see-through dress at a school fashion show. The Prince is smitten, they meet and sparks fly. How was the idea hatched? "It literally was a joke e-mail sent to me by a friend, saying: 'I bet you couldn't do a comic book on the Royal Family's wedding,'" writer Rich Johnston said. "I said I bet I could.
