“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” is taking over the box office after grossing $11.5 million on its opening day from 2,539 locations, a figure that includes a strong $5.1 million in Thursday previews. Putting that next to the massive October debut of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” it’s shaping up to be the first year on record that two concert documentaries have opened at the top of domestic charts.
“Renaissance” isn’t expecting to match up to the white-hot fan frenzy that met “The Eras Tour,” which scored $92 million in its domestic opening and has now surpassed $250 million worldwide. But the epic-length film, which documents Beyoncé’s recent Renaissance world tour, is still looking at a substantial debut north of $20 million — an impressive figure for a concert doc. Like “The Eras Tour,” “Renaissance” is also being distributed by AMC Theatres in a deal brokered between the headliner musician and the exhibitor — meaning...

The Jake Gyllenhaal/ Doug Liman remake of Road House seems destined for a streaming premiere. The news comes courtesy of Variety and was buried in a piece they wrote about the severing of producer Joel Silver’s relationship with Amazon Studios. According to the report, one of the reasons Silver was fired was due to rather heated discussions with people working for the studios over the films he was involved in, which were apparently bad enough to be considered verbal abuse. One of the things Silver was allegedly most upset over was the fact that Amazon is reportedly planning to release Road House straight-to-streaming through their Amazon MGM banner. This is despite the film being the highest testing film in director Doug Liman’s career, which is saying something as he also directed The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow, Swingers, Go, and Mr & Mrs Smith.

Some rather strange reports are circulating around the remake of Road House, ranging from the firing of its producer to using AI to finish it.
Hollywood is, of course a buzzing hive of gossip at the best of times, but a particularly strange couple of morsels emerged from Tinseltown on the 30th November. According to a Variety report, veteran producer Joel Silver has been fired from Amazon, the mega corporation which owns film studio MGM.
Before he was (allegedly) ousted, Silver was working on Road House, a remake of the 1989 action thriller which he’d also produced, as well as Play Dirty, a crime thriller starring Mark Wahlberg. Anonymous sources told Variety that Silver was fired for being “verbally abusive” to a pair of female executives.
Named sources close to Silver, meanwhile – private investigator Anthony Pellicano and attorney Bryan Freedman – refute this story. Pellicano says, “The parting of the ways is amicable.

Variety has reported that Joel Silver has been fired from several projects being developed for Amazon, including Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake and Mark Wahlberg’s Play Dirty. The once-iconic producer was behind some of the biggest movies of the ’80s and ’90s, including Commando, Lethal Weapon, Predator, and Die Hard, but he hasn’t been quite as prolific in recent years.
According to Variety’s sources, Joel Silver was fired for being verbally abusive to two female executives, including Amazon Studios’ Head of Marketing Sue Kroll and Amazon’s Head of Film, Streaming and Theatrical Courtenay Valenti. However, other sources say that Amazon is “retaliating against the producer after he pushed back on the studio’s calls to use artificial intelligence to finish a movie during the strike.“

Shane Black’s latest thriller, Play Dirty, is getting a new producer.
Amazon, which is backing the feature, is in negotiations to tap Jules Daly to replace Joel Silver after the streaming giant parted ways with the veteran moviemaker over claims of verbal abuse.
Silver was steering Play Dirty, a feature seen as a comeback vehicle for both him and longtime collaborator Black, who is writing and directing for Amazon. Simultaneously, he also was producing the Doug Liman-directed remake of Road House, this one starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Road House had completed shooting and is deep in post-production, with expectations of hitting sometime next year. Play Dirty is expected to begin shooting next year.
Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment. An insider said Silver had completed work on Road House and was no longer involved in Play Dirty. Variety first reported the news of Silver’s departure.

Updated with statement from Silver’s rep: Iconic producer Joel Silver has been fired from the forthcoming Amazon film Play Dirty, Deadline can confirm. While the decision reportedly stemmed from alleged verbal abuse on Silver’s part toward studio execs over creative differences, Amazon has declined to comment.
The first of a number of projects in the works at Amazon centered on the Parker crime novels by Donald E. Westlake, which were written under the pen name Richard Stark, Play Dirty was at one point supposed to star Robert Downey Jr., sources said, but while he’s no longer involved in that capacity, with Mark Wahlberg now attached to star, Downey remains aboard to produce for Team Downey and had left the project well ahead of the fallout with Silver. For the past few years, Joel Silver has kept a relatively low profile, his most recent credit on the little-seen “SuperFly” remake of 2018. Still, the hard-charging producer behind some of the biggest hits of the ’80s and ’90s was attempting to mount a comeback. And his prospects looked promising with a series of feature film and TV projects at Amazon that were based on Donald E. Westlake’s Parker noir crime novels.
Alas, the Silver comeback has hit a snag. Sources say Amazon has fired the polarizing Hollywood figure from at least two films — one starring Mark Wahlberg, the other Jake Gyllenhaal — for being verbally abusive to two female executives. But sources close to Silver say Amazon is retaliating against the producer after he pushed back on the studio’s calls to use artificial intelligence to finish a movie during the strike. The cyberpunk genre is perhaps now more popular and relevant than ever, and the same can be said for actor Keanu Reeves. Together they would prove to be a powerful pairing with the sci-fi masterpiece The Matrix and the recent hit videogame Cyberpunk 2077.
However, that was not the case in 1995, when Johnny Mnemonic was released to confounded and indifferent audiences. How did the combined efforts of a newly minted A-list star, a noted visionary artist, and a pioneer in cyberpunk fiction result in a target of ridicule and a box office disappointment?
Jack in and fill your head with Wtf Happened to this Movie!
The cyberpunk subgenre of science fiction can be broadly characterized with the theme of “high tech and low life” and it typically involves futuristic dystopian societies, advanced science and technology, body enhancements, dominant corporations, and sharp class disparity. Actor Clayton Moore became an iconic figure in television history thanks to his portrayal in The Lone Ranger. His adventures in this Western drew audiences in for its five-season run that expanded beyond its medium. However, the image of the Lone Ranger’s costume is especially what continues to stick in the mind of its longtime fans. Moore once explained that he designed the costume himself.

Arrow is a fantastic show and is currently my favorite superhero series of all time. I recently looked into the roots of Green Arrow to try and predict villains who could appear in Season 3 of the show. What I found instead were an insane list of idiotic foes that rival even some of the worst Batman and Superman villains. I guess that's what happens when you spend so long as a second tier hero. I hope these characters never appear in any episode of Arrow, but if they did, I envisioned how it would go down.

If you know and love the Outlander books, you know how important and “interesting” Geillis Duncan is to the 18th-century portion of the time travelling fantasy. If you’re new, suffice to say she is a prominent character, and is thought to be a witch. You’ll see. Today Starz announced that the part has gone to Lotte Verbeek, and wow does she look Scottish, even though she’s from the Netherlands.
Before we get to the details, however, we need to show you this. Production began last week on the Outlander, and to mark the occasion Starz released this photo of Outlander executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Helix, Battlestar Galactica), along with the quote, “Day One and the battle is joined. We fight to do justice to the material and the fans. We’ll return with our targes or on them.”
Syfy clearly missed an opportunity by not having Mr.

Why did the International Academy of the Digital Arts and Sciences choose Patton Oswalt to host this year’s 16th Annual Webby Awards? Oswalt has an inkling: “I look like the Internet personified,” he told an audience filled with celebrities, tech bigwigs, and humble entertainment journalists this afternoon. But Oswalt needn’t have been so self-deprecating. His jokes were uniformly well-received at Monday’s awards ceremony, especially when the comedian went off book. This, for example, is how Oswalt reacted after Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau accepted a statuette on behalf of Greenland.com: “I think winter just came!
