Over 2000 years ago, China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, embarked on an ambitious burial plan unlike anything the world had seen. After uniting its territories into a single realm, he commenced construction of a vast underground tomb complex to accompany his remains.
Intended to protect the emperor in his passage to the afterlife, it would contain replicas of his imperial domains crafted from hardy baked earth—an army of terracotta soldiers awaiting their master. However, this mysterious necropolis vanished from living memory for over two millennia, its location and grand scale lost to the revolving ages.
All was changed in 1974. Laboring farmers digging a new well among the fields outside Xi’an stumbled upon fragmentary archaeological artifacts not seen since antiquity. Word spread of these uncanny terracotta figures emerging from the soil, propelling local academic Yuan Zhongyi to survey the area. His exploration uncovered nothing short of sensational—the...

Los Angeles, Dec 17 (Ians) Jack Quaid started a group chat called the ‘Oppenhomies’ with the cast of Christopher Nolan’s epic biopic ‘Oppenheimer’ when the actor got stranded filming in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
“It’s like my biggest claim to fame at this point… starting a huge text chain,” Quaid said during an impromptu panel for author Jada Yuan’s “Unleashing Oppenheimer: Inside Christopher Nolan’s Atomic-Age Thriller” at a private Brooklyn.
The actor, who also stars in the hit show ‘The Boys’, recalled how he’d taken a taxi from his Hampton Inn while filming the Nolan drama to a local grocery store, then realised he had no way to get back, reports pagesix.com.
“I’m leaving, I have my cartful of groceries, I’m on my phone and I realise I was very lucky to get that Uber… because there’s no Uber,” said Quaid.

It seems a little trite and obvious to put into words, but the film "Oppenheimer" had to be made carefully when it came to the movie's optics. The ostensible protagonist of the biopic is J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy), a man whose life and legacy are fraught with numerous political, social, and moral issues that cannot be easily resolved in reality, let alone a single motion picture. Added to that is writer/director Christopher Nolan's unique approach to telling his story, which revolves around adopting an intensely subjective point of view, an aesthetic that began with the movie's script being written in the first person (from Oppenheimer's perspective) and continued as far as the depiction of a number of surreal, dreamlike visions that Oppenheimer experiences during the film.

Stories from the sets of notoriously particular filmmaker Christopher Nolan are always entertaining, and the new book "Unleashing Oppenheimer: Inside Christopher Nolan's Explosive Atomic-Age Thriller" is full of them. Jada Yuan's behind-the-scenes look at the making of the blockbuster historical drama features an assortment of surprising tidbits, including one about, believe it or not, an excruciatingly long haircut.
Strange as it sounds, fans of Cillian Murphy are no stranger to stories about the actor's hair. When Murphy worked on "Peaky Blinders," he said he was "alarmed by" the signature closely shaved undercut style his character Tommy Shelby sported in the show, noting he was "contractually obligated" to stick with the style. Couple an actor who understandably has opinions on his own hair with a director who's famous for his at times excruciating attention to detail, and apparently you get a five-hour haircut. According to Yuan, Murphy started the production with longer hair,...

The found footage horror genre is fairly saturated by now, as it has become increasingly difficult to capture the gritty and realistic aura of "discovered" footage convincingly. This format, although effective, comes with its own limitations and genre tropes that can get tiring pretty soon, if not reined in with compelling storytelling. So, what makes Taiwanese found footage horror, "Incantation," so special that it received international acclaim the moment it premiered on Netflix? The answer to this is pretty layered: for one, "Incantation" uses standard tropes only to subvert them eventually, and utilizes a clever narrative gimmick to heighten fear among audiences as a collective. Unbeknownst to the viewer, "Incantation" becomes an interactive experience, irrespective of whether one chooses to interact or not.
No, this is not a direct, straightforward interactive narrative of the "Bandersnatch" variety where the viewer gets to make key choices to help branch the storyline towards different outcomes.

London, March 16 (Ians) People who sleep less than five hours a night could be at 74 per cent risk of developing peripheral artery disease (Pad) compared with seven to eight hours, according to a new study.
More than 200 million people globally have peripheral artery disease (Pad), where arteries in the legs are clogged, restricting blood flow and increasing the risk of stroke and heart attack.
“Our study suggests that sleeping for seven to eight hours a night is a good habit for lowering the risk of Pad,” study author Shuai Yuan of the Karolinska Institute, Sweden said.
“Lifestyle changes that help people get more sleep, such as being physically active, may lower the risk of developing Pad. For patients with Pad, optimising pain management could also enable them to have a good night’s sleep,” Yuan said.

Every little thing, as long as you’re willing to dig deeper, can be turned into a strange story.” He sits in a comfortable armchair, nursing a glass of brandy as Miss Asia contestants listen eagerly to his every word. One may almost think it’s the introduction to a “Twilight Zone” tale, one of intrigue and philosophical musing within tales of the weird and macabre. Enter blossoming Hong Kong megastars Chow Yun-Fat and Chin Siu-Ho with a strange story of their own to share, one that blows the viewer’s expectations out of the water with a cult Hong Kong horror-comedy gem, filled with booby-trapped ancient temples, flying kung-fu demons and many, many explosions of blood and gore.

In the last 20 years, Taiwan has become a pivotal voice in horror. A few Taiwanese horror films cropped up throughout the '60s, '70s, and '80s. But 2002's "Double Vision," one of the first Hollywood-funded productions in Taiwan cinema, completely changed the genre. In the following decades, Taiwanese horror planted its flag firmly in the modern landscape and declared itself a prominent leader in the future of horror. Whether they offer a fresh glimpse into familiar territory or venture into the dark recesses of the wildly unhinged, Taiwan's contributions to modern horror are nothing short of remarkable. It's quickly becoming a force, with many entries competing directly with J-horror and K-horror.
Our list showcases the country's finest entries, including films that twist the membrane and some that soak you in blood. As you'll notice, most of our selections were released during the 2010s when Taiwan began taking full...
