On Feb 6, 2012, Lilyhammer, starring The Sopranos and E Street Band’s Stevie Van Zandt, marked the first original series to premiere on Netflix and introduced the binge model of releasing full TV seasons at once. The streamer’s co-ceo Ted Sarandos marked the anniversary with an essay posted on Netflix’s Web site and a video chat with Van Zandt in which the two reminisce about how the show got on Netflix and its legacy.
There is an asterisk to Lilyhammer‘s place in Netflix’s history. As Sarandos and Van Zandt admit in the video, House Of Cards was the first original series ordered by Netflix in a mega deal that shook up Hollywood. It was that news that prompted Van Zandt to seek a meeting with Sarandos. At the time, Lilyhammer already had a completed first season, so Netflix acquired a finished show that leapfrogged House Of Cards to the air.

Bruce Springsteen is releasing an entire 1978 show with the E Street Band in Houston, Texas. The release will benefit the MusiCares Hurricane Relief Fund, which will aid those affected by the recent devastation in Texas as well as in Florida.
The Houston show originally appeared as part of the Darkness on the Edge of Town box set. It captures the final leg of the Darkness tour, including the extended intro version of “Prove It All Night,” the rarely performed “Streets of Fire,” and Darkness outtakes “Fire” and “Because the Night.” It also features prototypes of The River’s “Independence Day,” “Point Blank” and “The Ties That Bind,” plus a rare September song, “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town.”
Houston was one of Bruce’s earliest springboards, which accounts for the presence here of early favorites “Fire” and “Saint in the City.”

In conversation, it’s impossible not to fall head-over-heels for Ronnie Spector. Even over a tiny cell phone speaker, her strong voice bursts forth with electric excitement, full-bodied passion, and the occasional flirtatious giggle. It’s the voice—a mix of street tough New Yorker and tender schoolgirl vulnerability—that provided the heart, soul and swagger of the iconic ’60s group the Ronettes. Alongside her sister Estelle Bennett and cousin Nedra Talley, the trio scored hits with pop masterpieces like “Be My Baby,” “Walking in the Rain,” and “I Can Hear Music.” Spector’s incendiary live performances established her as...

The last weekend of April, and the “slower” spring movie season is ending this weekend, leading directly into the start of the lucrative summer box office next week. As has been the case in past years, the last couple weekends in April see a couple movies hoping to bring in any amount of money before the first big summer blockbuster, and other movies that will steal away their theaters. Well, at least Dr. Madison Gray finally returned.
But whether it was for the last time is still up in the air at the end of Hawaii Five-0 Season 7 Episode 17.
Gray, first unveiled on Hawaii Five-0 Season 7, Episode 4, had been a Machiavellian, behind-the-scenes character, getting serial killers to kill for her.
So it was an intriguing change of pace to have her stumble into Hpd with bloody hands, claiming to be a tourist from Wisconsin with amnesia.
This naturally fooled no one within Five-0, who knew her true identity. Especially McGarrett, who is probably still angry that she blew up his pickup. After all, cars are his to destroy.
The interesting twist is when the blood comes back as a partial match to Alicia Brown, the profiler that was kidnapped along with McGarrett by Gray.
Alicia was found alive, and clueless, by McGarrett and Grover. So the question became "What was Gray's end game"?

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since David Bowie‘s death. It hurts for many reasons, but if there’s any solace to glean from the loss, it’s that Bowie has been properly mourned. Guns N’ Roses has grossed nearly $117 million dollars from its ongoing Not in This Lifetime… Tour. That’s obviously a lot of money, but TheWrap can add a bit more perspective for our readers. That take means GnR’s $116.8 million haul has topped the next five (and damn near six) biggest tours combined — and they’re no small-fry artists, either. That is, unless you consider Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band ($33.6 million), Barbra Streisand ($26.6 million), Celine Dion ($24.7 million), Kenny Chesney ($17.9 million) and Billy Joel ($8.9 million) to be small potatoes. We didn’t think so. By the way, rounding out.

In 2007, after returning to the music scene with the full E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen released the critically- and commercially-adored album, “Magic.” A fierce and cutting portrait of American disillusionment from track to track, the music marked a high point for the legendary rocker’s resurgent post-9/11 work, but it also signified the politically-progressive singer’s most pessimistic take on a society he’s been writing about — and representing — since the late ’60s.
Then, just two years later, the insightful artist released an album that could very well be his most hopeful ever, certainly since his return to prominence. While infectiously enthusiastic and admirably experimental, “Land of Hope and Dreams” was a significant step down in caliber compared to “Magic.” But it was what reflected our mass perspective in 2009, and more than that, it was what we needed to hear.

It's the 40th anniversary of "Taxi Driver" (released on February 8, 1976), the movie that gave Robert De Niro his most famous line, put Martin Scorsese on the map, proved that the pre-teen Jodie Foster was an Oscar-worthy thespian, and (most notoriously) was cited by John Hinckley as an inspiration for his assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.
In honor of the film's anniversary, here are 25 things you need to know about how Travis Bickle came to be.
1. The script, by Paul Schrader (pictured, left), was semi-autobiographical. After a divorce and a break-up with a girlfriend, he wrote the movie while living in his car, feeling suicidal, obsessing about guns and pornography, and having spoken to no one for weeks. As he recalled in 2013, "Taxi Driver" was "an exorcism through art," and it worked.

Winter Storm Jonas shut down Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's performance at Madison Square Garden tonight, but the Boss, as always, decided to do something good for the tristate area. Springsteen announced on Twitter today that he would put his January 19 performance at Chicago's United Center up as a free download from his site for the next two days. The stop on the River Tour includes performances from throughout Springsteen's catalogue and the singer's cover of "Take It Easy," which he and the band performed as a tribute to the late Glenn Frey. Tonight's show is yet to be rescheduled, though Springsteen has another performance at Madison Square Garden planned for January 27.

During the encore of their three-and-a-half-hour concert, during which they performed The River in its entirety for the first time since 2009 (the tour will go on for nine weeks), Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed David Bowie's classic Diamond Dogs track "Rebel Rebel." The Boss talked about how Bowie, who died last week at 69, was an early advocate for the Jersey band, way, way, way back in the very, very beginning (1973), even inviting Springsteen and co. to the studio where Bowie was recording Young Americans. The cover, in classic Springsteen fashion, is neck-vein-bulging loud and features no less than three people playing the iconic riff. Doo doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo.

I bought it for myself, but this was my Christmas present, arriving in the mail from England on Christmas Eve: a fifteen-cd set containing five epic Springsteen concerts from the legendary Darkness on the Edge of Town tour. When the Cleveland deejay who emceed the show for Wmms-fm introduced the band by saying, "Round for round, pound for pound, there ain’t no finer band around," he wasn't just rhyming, he was telling the truth.
Why, you ask, did this set come from England? Well, it's an unauthorized collection of bootlegs, but in Europe, radio recordings are public domain, so this is actually a legal release.
The word went out through the fan network I ordered it on Amazon U.K. before the release date. Perhaps Bruce doesn't get a penny out of this, but I've seen it suggested that writers' royalties would still have to be paid. Either way,...
